Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

Yesterday continued the story of the big change in the weather as the pressure has risen, colder, brighter and drier. At 20:00 it was clear and frosty. First thing this morning it was the same and this hasn't changed except for a bit more cloud. The glass is up again on almost 1032mb and still rising. The forecast is for a bright overcast day. The wind is a constant moderate ENE that gives us a high of 2C and a low tonight of 0C with a -5C (!) wind chill this afternoon. In effect this means a perceived temperature of -5C. The outlook is for another bright day tomorrow identical to today but then the rest of the week will be milder but with a heavier overcast.

I was considering going for a walk. Then I put my head out of the door. That wind is bitter! Bugger the exercise, I shall stay indoors in the warm!

I'm just back from a 4 mile walk and my fingers look like fat, red sausages. I struggled with the knot in my bootlaces... :laugh5: Just going to wrap them round a nice, hot mug of coffee. (Fingers not bootlaces.)

They were absolutely right when they forecast a -5C wind chill.
Yesterday afternoon was dry but bitter as the east wind rose steadily. At 20:00 it was bitter and I put two pairs of bedsocks on! This morning it is breezy, cold and overcast. The glass is steady on 1032mb. The constant ENE wind will be brisk and gusts to almost 35mph almost all day. It gives us a high of 2C and a low of 0c with a worse wind chill than yesterday of -6C almost all day. The forecast says there could be sunny intervals but they will not result in it being warmer. The outlook is for warmer weather but heavily overcast.

Yesterday afternoon stayed dry but as forecast, was bitterly cold with at least -6C wind chill. I opted for staying indoors and keeping warm! At 20:00 the sky was partially clear and we still had an East wind. First thing this morning it was breezy cold and dry with broken overcast, some stars visible. It is still the same but I think the overcast has thickened. The glass is steady on 1032mb and the forecast is for an overcast but dry day. The constant NE wind is light to moderate and gives us a high of 5C and a low tonight of 3C with a -4C wind chill for much of the day. Cold but an improvement on yesterday. The outlook is for similar weather until Monday when once again the temperature dips lower than the seasonal norm but stays dry.
06:00. We are having a light rain shower that wasn't in the forecast.

Yesterday was only a few degrees warmer but it felt quite mild when I went veggie shopping. It stayed dry all day and at 20:00 it was overcast but still dry. First thing this morning we had a light breeze, an overcast sky but dry, it hasn't changed since. The glass has risen to 1035mb and the forecast is for a dry day but heavily overcast. The constant NE wind is moderate and gives us a high of 5C and a low tonight of 1C with a -4C wind chill for much of the day. The outlook is for similar weather tending to get colder next week.

I'm watching the day get quite bright and attractive as I deal with my chicken and cook veggies for the next week. I am watching Ronnie play Barry Hawkins on the iPlayer on the computer. This is as good as it gets.
Later, at 14:00 all cooking finished, pans put away and hob wiped down. That feels good!

The glass is up slightly on 1037mb, The forecast is that we will have an overcast but dry day. The light breeze starts in the NE but ends the day in the West giving us a high of 4C and a low of 1C tonight with a constant wind chill of -2C all day. It will be slightly warmer tomorrow but then we have much colder weather with even a hint of possible snow next week.

Similar weather in Perth Cathy, Margaret sent me the forecast this morning that shows Susan and Mick will leave here at freezing point and under threat of snow on Tuesday and land in Perth to at least 35C.
It's dull here and I may go for a walk, we shall see.... :biggrin2:

Yesterday the weather was cold but the wind was so light at first that it was quite clement. Good enough to tempt me to go into the back yard to do some wood-bothering. At 20:00 we had a light breeze and it was dry and overcast. It was the same first thing this morning and hasn't changed since except for tending to clear. The glass has fallen to 1025mb and is still falling. The Met forecast is for the overcast to become fog this morning and sunny intervals later but dry. The mainly westerly wind is light and gives us a high of 6C and a low of 0C tonight with a wind chill that can get as high as -4C when the wind is strongest. The outlook is for it to get much cooler and brighter with a very real chance of some snow on Tuesday. The jet stream has altered course and we can expect more weather to come down from the North.

Yesterday afternoon was bright and sunny and at 20:00 it was calm, clear, cold and dry. It was the same first thing this morning and the only change is that we now have broken overcast, some stars still visible. The glass is down on 1013mb and tending to fall. The Met forecast is for a cloudy start and some sunny intervals this afternoon. The light wind starts the day in the west but as the day goes on gradually increases and swings into the north, this is going to be the pattern for the next few days. The high will be 3C and the low tonight -3C with a -4C wind chill as we move through the day. This is going to be the pattern for the next week and there is a forecast of snow expected on Tuesday.

Yesterday afternoon was bright and cold but dry. At 20:00 it was cold and dry and we had a clear sky. This morning first thing we had a light breeze and a clear sky the temperature with wind chill added in was -6C, it's still the same but the wind is a bit stronger and the wind chill takes us to -8C. So it's a bit colder! The glass has fallen again and is on 1007mb and still falling. The Met Office forecast is for a clear cold day. The constant moderate WNW wind gives us a high of -1C and a low of -4C tonight with a -6C wind chill for much of the day. Tomorrow we have a very cold day with a yellow warning for snow in force all day. Then a couple more cold days but it starts to warm up again later in the week. It looks as though we are going to get a bit of winter!

I have been out twice, once to the pharmacy where only two of the three items on my prescription were in stock but they say they will deliver that tomorrow morning and then for a second time to post a letter. I did that today because I have noted that we now have a yellow warning for snow and ice for the next three days so I aim to hibernate!
PS the forecast wasn't joking when it said there would be a -6C wind chill, that wind is bitter!

I'll second that, took P to Skipton in search of new 'going out' shoes. The cruise isn't until May so I don't see the rush but what do I know? :biggrin2:
Needless to say there's still only 'winter' stock in but it was a ride out and a walk around. I'm sure Boundary Mill will have something in soon.

Yesterday afternoon was bitter cold and at 20:00 it hadn't changed, it was overcast dry and cold. Same this morning, the temperature including wind chill is -6C. The glass is still on 1007mb but tending to fall. The Met forecast is that it will start snowing/sleeting at 10:00 and that is the start of a three day yellow warning for snow and ice. The constant south westerly winds are moderate, gusting to 30mph and give us a high of 2C and a low of -6C tonight. The wind chill will reach -6C when the wind is at its peak. The consequence is that it will feel close to -5C all day. Deep Joy! The cold weather will, last until Friday then on Saturday we have a change to milder and much wetter weather.
(PS. Margaret tells me they have 41C in Perth. Susan and Mick are in for a bit of a shock.....)
Later at 06:00. very light snow is falling already. 13C in the shed.... Deep Joy!
