It will be quiche, salad and new potatoes. Pondering whether to make some fresh bread.

Double grandchild day today so it might be a bit difficult with two to watch.

And policing the trolls Ian! You and Doc are busy at the moment! (For members information, we are under attack at the moment and Ian is getting the brunt of it.)
Casserole of pork chop and liver with usual trimmings.... Had it with spaghetti last night and I shall have rice today.....

Our Finlay and Isla were as good as gold yesterday (although messy) so it gave me a bit of leeway to man the ramparts for a while. India, Poland, Russia and Pennsylvania had a go at us yesterday. I know I banned about 7 "new members" and deleted about 15 posts. Doc did another 15 or so. Anyway, all quite on the Western front at the moment.

Back to topic, I didn't make the bread but we had Greek salad with the quiche, new pots and sweetcorn, a bit of butter on the top, very nice..

Chicken something tonight, not made my mind up yet.

Yes it was lovely Wendy - I was a bit naughty and used fresh cream instead of the creme fraiche and served it with new potatoes. Meat & potato pie tonight.
Say only a little but say it well.

Moh, I love watching the Hairy Bikers cooking. They are not afraid of butter and cream!
Finished the pork casserole with rice last night. Butcher's day today. I fancy an old steak!

Bradders , my great grandma made it to 95 ( but was a bad cook ) , but nan only to 85 ( she was a good cook ) , but then she was only expected to live to about 12 so I guess that evened out.

Anyway more what I didn't have (yet). Probably fitting under scams thread , Warburtons Soft White Sandwich Thins. 6 ( halved makes 12 ) RRP about £1.35 , which is about 5 times the cost of half a dozen soft own brand or good bakers rolls and 55% more by weight price of a quality loaf of bread.. Vacuumed packed the idea that with a couple of left over tomatoes , some reduced to 12p pack of mixed salad leaves the reduced price of 34p was good enough value as saved buying a whole loaf that I wont finish up before it goes off. Unfortunately as yet the pack wont pull apart to release contents and so feeling as miffed as the cat and its locked away treats. Fortunately with opposable thumbs and using the garden secateurs ( the scissors just squash the plastic and I don't trust knives ) I think I have the advantage over the cat in releasing the goodies.

A nice old piece of rump steak attracted me. Casseroled on a layer of onions and topped with a layer of carrots and tomatoes with a full bulb of garlic. The water level rose a but during cooking so I took a mugful out and had a lovely Bovril type drink during the afternoon. Fished half the steak out for a steak butty for tea with some of the onions. Home made bread is cheaper and beats anything that the supermarkets sell. I'll have another steak butty for dinner and add some peas and a bit of gram flour for thickening to what will become some good veggie soup.

Snap Moh, Bacon, tomato and egg butty at dinnertime. Fished the remaining steak out of the casserole for a steak butty at teatime. Tea to day will be the remaining veggies thickened to a nourishing soup. Amazing how far you can stretch one piece of rump steak....

You couldn't get much more simple than my tea last night. I had some potato salad left from the day before so I simply added some peas and fresh mint. 4 Clementines for pudding!

Butty filling made with mackerel fillets in tomato sauce with grated cheddar cheese. Quick, nourishing and very tasty..... Too warm for cooking.

Too warm to cook oxtail so I had two meat pies for tea instead and some cheese and biscuits.

You've made me fancy fish and chips Eileen! Cooked the oxtail in the pressure cooker and ended up with a nourishing but light stew. I put two lemons in as well as the usual suspects and after the fat had been taken off it was not heavy.

Oxtail stew/soup and half a Soreen malt loaf for pudding. During the war bread wasn't rationed but sweets were. A favourite treat on the way home from school was half a malt loaf for a penny. Amazing how the taste stays with you....

Rabbit stew, potatoes & broad beans.
Everything about malt loaf is evocative of childhood for me too...I wonder why?
