All veggies cooked, pans cleaned and put away, hob cleaned and sanitised. That's it until I decide to fry my sweet potato chips. I think a quiet read of Private Eye is in order. Always nice to get essential tasks like this done and dusted. :biggrin2:

I have nothing scheduled for today beyond my customary hour in the shed at 06:00. The weather forecast says it will be wet and windy so I doubt if I will be tempted out for a walk at Midday. So I suppose I will cower indoors and possibly have a dad nap at midday. The nice thing is I can please myself!

The first half hour of shed time this morning was spent on changing the 3 jaw chuck back to internal jaws, taking it off Mrs Harrison and cleaning and lubricating the scroll in the chuck. Than fitting the 4 jaw SC chuck and considering cleaning the valve chest up on the lathe but then deciding that was a bad idea and moving over to the El Cheapo VM to clean the casting up. Half an hour later I have one more casting fettled and ready for further refinement. Another nice morning in the shed....

Morning

The CT scan hopefully went well but it puts the start of the treatment back a week, presumably whilst they do whatever they have to do in comparing with the MRI scan.it took us only an hour to get there pite long traffic queues and only 50 minutes to get back to Wendy and Keith who are the next motor way junction up from us. We had lunch at the hospital buying sandwiches from the M&S outlet there. We were home for about 3.30, in plenty of time for my yoga.

As for the family tree, they have done a lot of the tree themselves but did not know how I fitted in to theirs . I was able to explain the origin of their g g grandfathers name, Wright, so what I am doing is taking that generation back a few more for certain and then a few more as very strong possibilities. The information that they had about their family I did not have. We are all second or third cousins.

This morning I have my voice therapy session at North Manchester hospital. I am going to have to stop going as it is not possible to give them any dates I can attend as Bobs appointments will be different every week. However the voice occlusion exercices I was given last time have worked a treat. I have been doing them for about 8 weeks now and my voice is much stronger and lasts most of the day. Back home I shall be ironing, then pilates and yoga in the studio this evening.

Have a good day all

Morning Sue..... Still a busy schedule and I can understand the problem of matching your voice appointments with Bob's treatment schedule. I hope you manage it without cost to your voice improvement. I am just off back to bed for a couple of hours.... Sometimes you must wish that you had that freedom! Give Bob my best wishes, I am still thinking about him.

Hi Sue, aren’t strong possibilities a nightmare? I have a couple, I can’t prove it definitely is them, but there again I can’t prove it definitely isn’t them. One is a death, quite recent, last known 1881 census, the other is much earlier, a birth c1750 Sligo. Every now and then I go back and end up searching the same path 🫣😭😂

Yes I can only find one possible match for my John Widdup born 1764 ish. Definitely not one of the Rochdale Widdup families. There weren't many and I have tracked them all back. Church registers have shown no other Widdups at St Chad's of any note but loads in Heptostall area. Littleborough Church wasn't there then but there were loads of Widdups in Tod area and beyond. I have tried to match them. One has the family names including surnames that became forenames eg Sutcliffe. All very interesting

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 as usual and the change today could be a walk at midday, the first for a few days as we are promised it will be dry. That'll be a nice change!

Morning

My voice appointment went ok and we have a greed on a review in April. Yet another morning using our wonderful NHS. The ironing was quickly completed in the afternoon and I managed to get an hour on my latest sewing project.

This morning I shall make some soup for lunch, and then its a trip to the hairdressers for a trim. This afternoon more sewing and zoom pilates

Have a good day all.

Better day for all activities Sue if you have the same forecast as us. It may be windy but it's mild and dry!

This morning more work refining the steam chest casting. Making sure it was all square, the correct shape and machined to size. I also marked it with the witness mark that ensures it is always oriented correctly and cleaned out the interior to size by hand with the biggest files I could get in there. At knocking off time it was ready for final fitting when I get round to it. Another casting clean and sized.

I have just got back form my first short walk since I fell last Tuesday.... Just out to the Co-op and back for some Cox apples and it was fine. They weren't kidding about that wind chill, it's not particularly cold until you get in that wind. I think Ian would call it 'nithering'!

It's a good word is that Ian.....
My next blood test to see if I have cured my sodium deficiency is on February 10th. Seems as though all that NICE advice about cutting down on salt intake was wrong, on a par with their equally strong advice on Saturated Fats.
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 as usual following my own medical advice..... "Do useful things in the shed for an hour every day!"

Today's target was the cylinder casting. First a quick break off of the worst of the flash with a hammer and punch and then a session on the grinding wheel to remove the worst of the external problems. Then the same in the bore and this included a session with a big rough round file. Once I had the worst off I started measuring and further refining under the mill. By knocking off time I had most of it done and knocked off ready to address the other end of the cylinder. Time for breakfast, There is no rush, that was a productive hour and some good work.

Art at Haslingden today. I am not sure how many will turn up but if we don’t get a few more members we will have to close. Sad but true. This afternoon will be a bit of sewing. That's about it. Have a good day

I hope you get a better response Sue. I recognise the syndrome, the worst thing you can do is accept what you think as inevitable. Just crash on doing what you have always done and encouraging others to do the same. Best of luck.....

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 and after second sleep I will go to the Co-op for the weekly essentials but no veggies as I shall not need them until after the weekend. On the whole a quiet day! Just how I like them these days.
I got a wedding invitation for June in the West Country, one of my grand daughters is getting married. I declined with regret.... There is no way I can envisage going down there, my travelling days are over I fear.....

My goal today was to bring the cylinder in to the point where it could be bored, So that's what I did. I ended up with the cylinder having an exhaust port and having been drilled and tapped for fitting the exhaust pipe. It took almost an hour and a half, long time since I did overtime! Now for breakfast.....

Morning

Well there were 6 of us at art, with three more promising to return. That is good news. Sadly we also need to find a new art tutor. I suggested that we contact the art course at various colleges to see if any final year student would like a bit of teaching experience. I am happy to do it but not for a few weeks . In the afternoon I pickled some red cabbage that I had in the fridge. Bob can’t eat any high fibre food for a few weeks so rather than waste the cabbage I pickled it.

A walk down the garden on Wednesday evening revealed the storm had blown a pane of glass out of the greenhouse and smashed it. The same pane was blown out whole only a few weeks ago. Anyway we went to B&Q in Bury and bought some perspex sheeting to replace it. On close examination it seems the frame has become loose at that corner so also needs a repair, a screw having rusted away or come out. The greenhouse in barely 5 years old, the last one lasted 40 years. We needed to replace the glass quickly as last time it came out the squirrels got in to the greenhouse, smashed a number of pots and knocked things over.

Today is Friday and lunch out with Wendy, Keith , Barbara and Bill. Have a good day.

Morning Sue! You do see life don't you! Don't take on the job of being an art tutor, you have enough on with Bob. But nice to hear attendance was better than you expected. Rossendale College had a good reputation at one time for support of adult education but I suppose like all the others it has been hit by reduced funding.... Good luck with the search for a solution.

No way will I be an art tutor Stanley, I meant I am happy to approach the colleges in a few weeks time. Wendy is the one we need to persuade , she is a good artist and did do an art degree following her retirement from teaching English but her mobility issues make it difficult for her . She is happy to do the odd session but prefers to come as a participant rather than a tutor

Forget the ONCE A TEACHER ALWAYS A TEACHER. Or a TEACHER CAN TEACH ANYTHING. I am definitely done with that and prefer to be a learner. My interests are diverse and I love learning, used to love teaching but it wore me out.
