Is the traffic chaos anything to do with Thursday's election?
Despite all that you sound to have had a decent day yesterday. Please give my regards to Bob. my only task today is to get some milk later. I may be able to do that whatever the weather....
Have a nice day.... :good:
No not the election, it was every road trying to get into or out of the centre was at a standstill in both directions for about 3 miles. Bob and Julia saw an accident on one of the main roads about 3.00 , start of rush ‘hour’ that may have caused it. The election is a mess I think there will be a low turn out, so watch this space. Political apathy is the new political party here. George Galloway has been very active, we have had 3 leaflets and 3 doorstep callers , and no other callers. Our vote is done we do a postal vote. The Labour and Green candidates have both been ‘disowned’ by their parties for their outspoken views. The Green with drew but is still on the form, Labour is not allowed to canvas under Labour, several independents standing for all sorts of odd things. The MEN. Wrote a wonderful article on it yesterday I will try and find it for you

You're right Sue, That is a good article and states the position very fairly. The reporter is right, we all deserve so much better than what we are getting from these political 'leaders'.

I took advantage of it staying dry and did my essential smalls shopping at the Co-op. Would you believe that it's still not started raining? :good:

Yes it's a good piece on tomorrow's byelection.

That's just what Galloway said yesterday. He says now - in contrast to when he said 'lend me your vote' - that he will stand again in the General Election, and he further says, that since the local Councillors are sub standard, his Workers Party will contest the third of Council seats which will be up for election in May; though it may take him two terms to gain control.

A lot of questions will be answered in Rochdale today David. I still think that Mr Ali will get the seat. (Or do I mean by that that he is my strong preference?)
As for the real world here in Barlick, I shall be in the shed as usual drilling and tapping more holes in my castings..... One matter that has had my attention for a couple of days is the fact that my latest batch of gloves is on the small side of medium. They are powder-free and so I was tearing them while putting them on. My cure was to get some talc from Shambles and I can now get them on far easier. I may be lucky and it's only this one box that's smaller....
I have no social engagements for the rest of the day apart from giving Kathy my meat order for tomorrow so another relaxed day!

The target this morning was the fitting of the steam chest on its studs and the fit of the valve chest lid. I drilled and tapped under the pillar drill, drilled the clearance holes in the walls of the chest and put it all together. It was a perfect fit and didn't need any easing. Very pleased and rather than crash on I called it a day and declared it breakfast time!

Morning

Yes Stanley I think you are right about the election simply because he is on the voting slip as Labour and many neither know or care about what has gone on about him politically. However there is no doubt George has been trying hard we have now had 4 doorstep callers for him and none from anyone else. Our letterbox gets plenty of leaflets too and only one from everyone else. We shall see but I still think the turnout will be very low.

Thursday already. Today Bob and Julia have a mid afternoon appointment so it will be lunch here again. I think I may pop over to see our friend Wendy in Norden this afternoon as she has phoned regularly to see how Bob is. Our lunch with Claire went well yesterday , it was lovely to sit and chat in our little family group. I may do some sewing this morning as I have a couple of things to practice as I have just booked my next session with Maxine for the 20 th March, , not so long away .

Have a good day all

Hard luck Kev and yes, I do believe you are right. Kids have a nasty habit of bringing home everything that's going from school! Stay close to a bottle of whisky. It might not cure it but you will feel better!
I shall be in the shed as usual at 06:00 this morning and do not intend to go out for the rest of the day, it's too cold out there, we have a forecast of a -6C wind chill around midday! I have a cure for that, go back to bed and snuggle down. (One of the many benefits of retirement!)
06:00. Change of plan. I don't feel like going in the shed and I suspect that news may be worth listening to so I am going to decline the shed and have an early breakfast and return to bed. Being the boss of this shed means I can do exactly what I want! :biggrin2: :good:

Morning

Well I suppose I am not surprised by this. Lets hope he actually tries to do something for Rochdale.

Today is the end of week 4, for Bob and still no side effects, though we were told some people don’t get any. It’s been a good week all round, I think seeing Julia has been good, lots of chat in the evenings. Bob has seemed less tired than usual . Today is a a noon appointment. We hope to be back in Rochdale at the Lake by 2.00 for lunch as usual.

Have a good day all, we have snow , sleet and rain forecast

Good to hear that Bob has no side effects from the treatment Sue. I have just got back from delivering Colin to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he is getting an endoscopy to check that all is well and to have a stretch of the scar tissue where they joined him back together. He gets very worried about the cancer returning and they don't do a regular check beyond a chat with the specialist nurse, he had to request it. Fingers crossed! I was awake worrying about the forecast snow but it hasn't appeared yet.

Morning Sue. That's such good news about Bob. I'm so glad! Tell him he must have Irish blood, that's the luck of the Irish!
I've just been out to the Co-op and we haven't got the rain/snow yet but Gloria says the rain has come down off Longridge Fell so anytime now!

All clear thanks Sue, we just got back 10 minutes ago. There were blizzard conditions here for a while and about an inch of slush on the roads when I set off back to Bradford. By Lothersdale it was sleet and torrential rain by the time I got to Crosshills. Its stopped now.

Thats good news Wendy.

Bob was in and out quickly today and we were back in Rochdale by 1.30 in time for lunch with the others . Got home to find a flood under the kitchen sink, as a drain pipe had become dislodged, the same one as before Christmas. Once again we have had to clear and dry out the cupboard and its contents. Bob is busy trying to fix it now with a longer piece of pipe .

That sounds like an annoyance Sue! I hate it when the infrastructure lets me down.
I shall not be diverted this morning, I will be in the shed by 06:00 but before that I shall get my chicken ready and have it in the oven. After second sleep I shall deal with it and go for veggie shopping in Town Square. Sunday is going to be a cooking day and I thought I'd get the meat out of the way today.

I changed my mind about roasting the chicken. I want the time this morning for veggie shopping before the rain returns.

Today is glands. I started with the piston rod gland. A rough clean up on the grinding wheel and then work in the lathe. I could hold the gland for the first operation using the boss that will form the gland itself but the other side had to be done very carefully as all that holds the gland is friction provided by a piece of emery paper between it and the chuck. At closing time I had the gland finished apart from drilling for the studs. I will do that as a separate operation on both glands. Now for breakfast!
