Morning

Will do Ian.

All good here apart from waking at 5.30 pm after over two weeks of waking at 6.30 in France. It will take a few days to adjust. There are no plans today except Bacup market and I shall start my sister’s second dress in the fabric I bought for her in Rennes. I hope to get that made over the next few days.

Its wet out there this morning but is not raining now and should brighten by lunchtime. Have a good day all

I have been for a walk into Town Square and I admit I had an incentive.
I got a letter from the Office of National Statistics yesterday. I have been chosen to participate in a Family Resources Survey. I had no choice and it can't be changed but to soften the blow they included a voucher for £10. All I had to do was present it at the Post Office, no identification needed. As far as I can make out I will be contacted about a visit from a researcher who will fill in the questionnaire for me.

The interviewer will collect complete information about the circumstances of the whole household. They will ask you questions on a range of topics such as how your household manages financially, what savings and investments you have.

No-one has to take part if they do not want to

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the data processor; personal and survey data is sent securely and separately to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the data controller. DWP may combine your responses, for research and statistical purposes only, with information held by them.

Some food for thought there. The data is said to be depersonalised, but is then sent to DWP and presumably matched to your personal data, or 'personalised' as an ordinary person might say.

Only one image this morning. I spent 45 minutes carefully producing a replica of yesterday's crosshead guide and then cut them both to length to fit the casting. Some very fine and careful milling.... Tomorrow I shall fit them. Now for breakfast.

I see the sun came out for the BBQ tea Sue.
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 working on my crosshead slides..... We are promised the hottest day of the year so far so I shall take a view on a walk when we get to midday. I suspect I may make do with a quick dash to the Co-op for some veggies to lessen the load from Town Square tomorrow or Wednesday.

Morning

Yes Stanley we had sun from about 11, it was a very pleasant day. I finished Janes dress and did a bit of tidying in the garden which is now looking better after its rampaging growth in our absence.

This morning I am out early as I have joined a french conversation group which is actually at the same venue in Haslingden as my Thursday art. It has been recommended to me by a friend who also usually goes but not today as she is having a wisdom tooth out. So I have paid for a month which includes a couple of zoom sessions and online access to recorded conversations with translations. Hearing french is my real weakness. I can read, write, translate and even speak reasonably well though not fluent but I really struggle to make out what people say to me, especially in Britany.

This afternoon there is nothing planned but I have zoom yoga at 5.15. Have a good day, its going to be a hot one…24 here and 29 at our place in France.

Yes Sue, my Susan is at Sandringham for a horse show and I have told her to expect 30C down there. Too warm for me..... I can see this hot weather being a problem in the future, many places in Southern Europe are actively discouraging tourists and trying to get them to visit in 'winter'!

Image

The first move in fitting the crosshead guides was to mark the slides and drill the clearance holes for the 5BA bolts that will fasten the guides to the bed. Both guides have witness marks on them which correspond with marks on the bed so they can always be correctly mounted. Next I marked the bed for one bolt on each of the guides, I drilled and tapped them both 5BA, fitted the guides and bolted them down ensuring that they were parallel by measuring the gap. Next I marked the bed for drilling and tapping these holes. That's the first job for tomorrow. A good hour of accurate work with no mistakes. I have earned my breakfast.

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 working on my crosshead guides. I was intending to go to Well for my meds but as I have a blood test at the surgery on Wednesday I shall get them then and do my veggie shopping as well. Today is going to be another hot day so as little activity as possible looks to be a good idea.
I still have this mental image of Bob skipping down the street ..... :biggrin2: Wonderful feeling.

The first order of the day was to drill and tap the remaining four holes in the crosshead slide and fit the guides. This took twenty minutes longer than it should have done because I had to go searching for a 5BA bolt to replace one supplied with the castings that was not the correct length. Then I started work on the crosshead itself, the first thing was to ensure that the stock is square, essential to future measuring and marking then milling.

Morning

What a hot day and more to come. Glad we are not in France where it is hitting 30 this week. Talking of France I had a great french lesson yesterday, I think I am going to enjoy this. In the afternoon I stayed inside mostly but we did post Janes dress and take Joannes sewing machine to my little repair man. Remember Joanne couldn’t get it repaired in France.

Today we have an online meeting at 9.30 then whilst it is cool at the front of the house I will do a bit of garden tidying there. Then it will be nothing much till I go to the Pilates studio for my double session at 5.15 pm. I shall probably tackle my sewing that Maxine has set but I am not really sure what I am doing as it is such a long time since I looked at it

Have a good day all

You all know where I will be at 06:00, in the shed working on my crosshead. I have an appointment for a blood test at 11:50 and that's the only item on my social calendar. I hope I can have a good result and my repeat prescription reinstated so I can forget doctors for six months..... :biggrin2:

The piece of stock supplied by Stuart is far too big so this morning has been spent reducing it to the finished dimensions of the crosshead. It is now ready for the further modifications needed to make it into a crosshead. That took an hour but I am satisfied it is correct. Now for breakfast!

Morning

Believe me Stanley I don’t ignore the hot weather. I am not a fan of heat. I like the sun but 20-22 degrees is fine for me. That is exactly the reason why I decided to do the front garden in the morning which is in the shade and much cooler than the back which gets full sun most of the day. I did half an hour, pruned the tree peony which was my main intention which filled the brown bin. I left the rest for another day and went in, had a cuppa and another shower. Most of the rest of the day was spent inside in the cool of the lounge which is also on the cool side of the house. I did my sewing in the afternoon and pilates and yoga were both slow stretching exercises.

Today we will walk into Rochdale straight after breakfast and get back before it gets too hot. Bob has 5 weeks money to bank from the train takings whilst we were away. Too much to have in the house too long . Other than that I have zoom pilates at 5.30 but I will have to watch the heat on that as I will be in the lounge and the sun will have arrived round that side of the house. I think I will put a fan on . I see its going to be 24 degrees for several hours. Tomorrow is back to 19.

Have a good day all .

Yes, I see that we are promised a respite from the heat and that will be very welcome. I shall be cooking veggies tomorrow so I will welcome it being a bit cooler!

Too hot to walk, it hits 24 as we would be walking back up the hill so going by car and calling at B&M on the way back for tomato feed and bird food . I hate going by car when we could walk but it wouldn't be wise

Sensible decision Sue. I have just got back from the doctors after my blood test. It was very pleasant going there as we had a breeze but a different story as I came back, very hot. I thing dinner and a dad nap is indicated..... :biggrin2:

It's fortunate that the wind chill factor is only 1 degree Celsius today. You should be safe from harm.

Making use of the phone Ian kindly loaned me. Mine is going back to the manufacturer under warranty and the addressed packaging arrived today. A fresh backup of the original phone, to the Google 'cloud' and a download to the loaned phone and all operational in just over an hour.
Google and Xaomi accounts logged out along with a couple of other apps that weren't reliant on a Google account. It's in the packaging, with the required paperwork ready for a trip to the Post Office in the morning.

Cheers for the 'loaner' Ian :good:

This morning I machined the crosshead to profile, checked it in the guides and marked it for cutting out for the connecting rod. That's enough for this morning it was 85F in the shed, a legacy from yesterday. I have got the chicken in to roast and I have earned my breakfast!
