Meat delivery last night so I have belly pork to cook at some point today. I shall be in the shed as usual at 06:00 working on fitting the crankshaft into the latest engine. It's proving a bit of a knotty problem at the moment but I shall get there in the end!
I may go to get my shoes from Birros and do a bit of veggie shopping while I am at it but I'll take a view later this morning.....
Later, just before going into the shed. I have cut my belly pork up and it's in the slow cooker arguing with garlic, spices and tomato.

Morning

Bacup market today and as yet no other plans, it depends on the weather overall as to wether we go out or not. Otherwise I have sewing, a bit more garden tidying now the brown bin is empty , a bit of genealogy research for a friend, plus my daily french lesson on Duolingo.

Have a good day all

A busy day as usual Sue. We are promised light rain after dinner, I don't know if that applies to you as well. I have got my belly pork cut up into bite size chunks and it's cooking with the usual spices in the slow cooker.

This morning I spent 45 minutes refining the fit of the crankshaft in the bearings. I made sure the shaft itself was OK and then reamed the bearings. I fitted the shaft and it was still tight so I lapped it in to the bearings and finished up with a perfectly fitting shaft that has no play but turns freely with the caps almost dead tight. This is just as it should be, it will free up more if and when it is run in. Nice. Now for breakfast.

It never happened here either Gloria.....
I went and did my shopping, got the rest of my veggies and had a sit on traffic duty on a new form! I don't know what was wrong with the old one but there you go, we have two new ones now.
I have my shoes back from Birros, he has made a good job of them.

I've used the Colne branch a couple of times now (it's closer than Barlick) and have been impressed with the jobs :good:

I fell out with them after the work deteriorated but I shall be calling in to let the cobbler know I like his work. I should explain that his welt stitching machine broke down and he had to stitch them by hand, this meant they were not ready yesterday morning so he delivered them for me to save another walk. All told, a pleasant surprise.
I shall be in the shed at 06:00. Not quite sure what I'll be doing..... I have choices! I may get a dry walk in later on but note that we expect a wet afternoon......

I started the morning by cleaning the VM and Mrs Harrison. Then I started rebuilding the engine and here's where I had got up to at closing time. Good progress and I have earned my breakfast.

Morning

I think we had about 10 minutes of rain about lunchtime just as the washer finished. Then the sun came out with a strong breeze. The washing dried, I did the. Ironing, some sewing and a bit of genealogy as I am trying to solve a puzzle for a friend. Oh yes I trimmed back my heathers in the front garden as well although it was difficult to tidy up as the wind was blowing the cuttings everywhere.

It will be a typical Sunday today, Bob out and me pottering. It has rained overnight not sure of the forecast otherwise. Have a good day all

Morning Sue, the one thing I think you can be sure of is that there will be less wind. I considered putting towels out to dry but in the end put them all on the rack in the kitchen. The great thing about that is that the outcome is certain! I hope you have a good day. I am going for my second sleep and then I think I will be cooking my chicken.

I'm going to Skipton station to see Tangmere, a Battle of Britain Class Loco, hauling the Waverley steam excursion from York to Carlisle. I've been wanting to see it as my dad was stationed at Tangmere when it was attacked. I thought we might go to Hellifield where it stops to take on water but I've just realised that it stops for passengers at Skipton so there is a good opportunity to see it there.

The Grand Prix at Silverstone this afternoon promises to be an exciting race. The two Mercedes are on the front row with Norris in the Maclaren third and Verstappen fourth after having a problem in qualifying. Add rain into the mix and being able to watch it live on Channel 4...whoopee!

I've finished roasting my chicken and it is safely in the fridge. I only have to clean my roasting tin now and it's soaking in the sink. Then I can go and watch the Grand Prix.

Since my big lad is attending, I forced myself to watch - and what do you know - it's quite exciting. I like the captions on the cars so you have an idea who is who, and the lead has changed quite a few times. No procession as I used to remember it. Now it's started raining.

You were right Wendy and thanks again for giving us the heads up. Very exciting and lovely to see Lewis take his 9th win at Silverstone and his 104th win overall. Worth watching! :biggrin2:

I reverted to type and soon became bored. Found that I has no interest whatever in who won.

Swapped to the tennis where The Romanian / Chinese / Canadian / British lady lost to the Croatian / Chinese / Swiss / New Zealand lady. Those combinations sort of make nationality irrelevant.

It's the first race I've watched for a long time and even though this was good and got my attention it will be a long time before I watch another. The magic has gone, it seems so artificial now and the constant frenetic excitement of the commentary is exhausting......
No frenetic excitement in the shed this morning at 06:00. I shall be quietly working on my engine and after second sleep will cook my veggies. A very normal Monday in East Hill Street after the excitement of the last week.

Another day of refining work already done and going forward with building the engine. I adjusted the fit of the piston rod in the crosshead and it is much better now. Then I fitted the steam chest, complete with valve and rod and fitted the lid with the nuts just finger tight because the lid will have to come off for valve timing. Next job was to cut the slot in the piston assembly so that it can be tightened fully into the crosshead. Lastly I installed the studs that will hold the back lid on and checked the fit of the lid. A good hour with solid progress to a better standard than usual. I have earned my breakfast!

Please give Bob my regards and I know it's a routine scan but I hope there are no surprises!
As for the rest of your day, busy as usual. I hope it all goes well.
I shall go to bed now, then I have to cook veggies and apart from that I don't think anything is looming unless I decide to go for my milk a day early because tomorrow is looking wet. I shall decide on that later......

I went for the milk and then started veggie cooking on an industrial scale for next week. I have got on well and am just waiting for the last pressure cooker load to cook on the hob. Always a nice place when I am finishing this job.....
Later at 14:30. All finished, 5 pans of veggies and gravy ready to go in the fridge and the hob cleaned off and dried.
