The plastic cap on my bottle of squash. Apparently a 2018 EU directive means all EU states have to have a 'tethered' cap, this is to stop the bottle caps polluting beaches with single use plastics. It's too expensive for manufacturers to make different bottles for different countries so we all get them, even though the UK isn't legally obliged to have them. Still unsure why I would take the lid, from my bottle of squash that's in my kitchen cupboard, to a beach to dispose of it. My plastic recycling bin is much closer and the lid gets put in with the empty bottle. The kitchen scissors make short work of the 'tether' and stops the lid getting in the way of pouring. :biggrin2:

It'll be straight bananas next

THIS report from Poland.
The mayor of a Polish city has asked all 44,000 residents to evacuate, as widespread flooding continues to batter central Europe. Nysa mayor Kordian Kolbiarz asked people to head for higher ground, citing the risk of an embankment breaching and releasing a cascade of water into the town from a nearby lake. The death toll from the floods that hit over the weekend rose to at least 16 on Monday, with seven confirmed fatalities in Romania. Casualties were also recorded in Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland.
Don't complain about our weather. This is happening now in Central Europe as we bask in the autumn sunshine.....

I saw THIS in the news..... It's like Star Wars....
Nine people, including a child, have been killed after handheld pagers used by members of the armed group Hezbollah to communicate exploded across Lebanon, the country’s health minister says. Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon was among 2,800 other people who were wounded by the simultaneous blasts in Beirut and several other regions. Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, said the pagers belonged “to employees of various Hezbollah units and institutions” and confirmed the deaths of eight fighters. The group blamed Israel for what it called “this criminal aggression” and vowed that it would get “just retribution”. The Israeli military declined to comment.
I don't know how that was managed but it seems the ultimate in sneaky warfare!

Israel have used similar tactics but with doctored mobile phones. That is already on record. Apparently the pagers were built in Bulgaria, (I think it was) under licence from a Chinese company. China have denied any part in the manufacturing process.

The attacks on Hezbollah continue, see THIS BBC report.....
At least 20 people have been killed and more than 450 wounded by a second wave of explosions from wireless communication devices in Lebanon, the country’s health ministry says. Walkie-talkies used by the armed group Hezbollah blew up in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon - areas seen as its strongholds. Some of the blasts took place during funerals for some of the 12 people who the ministry said were killed when Hezbollah members’ pagers exploded on Tuesday. Hezbollah blamed Israel for that attack. Israel has not commented. The attacks came as Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant announced a "new phase in the war" and as an Israeli army division was redeployed to the north. UN Secretary General António Guterres warned of the “serious risk of a dramatic escalation” and called on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint”. "Obviously the logic of making all these devices explode is to do it as a pre-emptive strike before a major military operation," he told reporters.

This is hardly helping the cause of peace in the Middle East. Is Israel deliberately dragging her allies into more conflict?

The obvious answer to exploding lithium based communication devices is to turn the clock back and have dedicated radio operatives. They could use standard RF based transceivers which couldn't be individually traced as modern kit can be either by IP or unique manufacturing code (EPC) or indeed it's MAC address. They would obviously have to use some kind of encryption on the traffic but such is life when attempting to prosecute war. If they wanted top level security they need the assistance of the native American Navajo.

Has it been established that it is the batteries that are exploding? Leaving aside the morals and ethics, as a route for prosecuting war against an enemy it is a brilliant intelligence Coup and others like Iran and the Houthi must be thinking hard!

See THIS BBC account of Hezbollah's reaction to the attack....
Hezbollah’s leader has said bomb attacks using thousands of the Lebanese armed group's pagers and radios "crossed all red lines", and accused Israel of what he said represented a declaration of war. In a much-anticipated speech, Hassan Nasrallah acknowledged Hezbollah had suffered an “unprecedented blow”, but he vowed it would continue fighting and inflict a “just punishment”. Israel has not said it was behind the blasts on Tuesday and Wednesday, which Lebanese authorities said killed 37 people and wounded 3,000. As Nasrallah spoke, Israeli warplanes caused sonic booms over Beirut, scaring an already-exhausted population, and others struck targets in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military said it was operating to “degrade Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure” and to “bring security to northern Israel”.
The prospects for outright war in the region look more likely every day. If it happens it will affect all of us. Deep Joy!

Colin's visit to cure my email problems. It was just as Kev said and Col said that Kev would have cured it as well. It was just having the computer skills to get over the hurdles that TalkTalk put in your way.
Kev was dead right when he said that their customer care is non-existent...... Their agents are the cheapest operatives you could find and have no skills beyond reading a script. In addition they are all Asian and speak too fast, I can't understand them.
But, as Ian said the other day, 'better the devil you know.....'!

I saw THIS disturbung report.
An investigation has been launched into the contamination of gardens and allotments by a potentially cancer-causing substance from a chemical plant. The probe is into pollution by a chemical called Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in the Thornton-Cleveleys area of Wyre, Lancashire. PFOA - which was used in everyday items like non-stick pans and waterproof clothing - was used at the former ICI site. People have been urged to wash any fruit or vegetables they have grown, but the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said they do not know "what, if any" risk to the public there is.Wyre Council said ICI, and subsequent site owner AGC Chemicals, were permitted to use PFOA from the 1950s to 2012.
Not welcome news if you live in the area....

What has been attracting my attention of late is something that is always with us.... the clever words of the people who write copy for advertisements.
Two examples, Garnier advertising that their 'Micellar water' (up to £7 a bottle.) Removes 'up to 100% of make-up'. No mention of how little it can remove also.... 'Smug Dairies' using a ridiculously low percentage of saturated fat in their blended oat and dairy milk as a selling point. They are still using the historic warnings, long since disproved, that 'saturated fat' is bad for you.
There are many more examples, all basically dishonest but it seems to be allowed......

The fact that the early news seems to indicate that we have all out war in the Lebanon. (LINK)
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the country’s military to continue fighting with “full force” against the armed group Hezbollah, despite calls from the US and other allies for a ceasefire. Lebanon's health ministry said at least 92 people were killed in Israeli air strikes on Thursday, with hundreds more killed since the strikes escalated on Monday. Hezbollah has confirmed that an air strike on an apartment building in the south of Beirut killed the head of its drone unit, Mohammad Surur.
Netanyahu is defying all calls for a cease fire and we are still supplying him with arms.
Put me down as being baffled.....

If the USA and the UK stopped the arms shipments. I feel that reaching an agreement may then focus minds and become a lot easier. Alternatively the Israelis need to sack their Zionist leader.

I am puzzled also as to why he has been invited to the UN meeting when he has been found guilty of war crimes by the international Courts?
