No Cathy and I have decided it's too specialised, I doubt if anyone will get it. I'll have a look at midday and if nobody has got anywhere near I'll knock it on the head.

As I thought, too obscure. See THIS auction site for more information.
It's a Goneostat By Holtzappfel who virtually invented the modern ornamental turning lathe. It was used for sharpening the cutters used for turning Ivory and very hard woods.
I can almost certainly guarantee that you'll never see one!

They are lapping plates for use with the Goneostat. The left is brass and the right is cast iron. They were used for putting the finest edge possible on high carbon steel cutters for use with ivory.

I'm with Wendy, rack stones from a drying kiln. I'll also throw in that they were in the walls around Booth Bridge Mill. Perhaps around 1979? :biggrin2:

Wendy has it right. Rack stones from a corn-drying kiln. This one at Booth Bridge, Thornton in Craven.
Not many people know about wuzz holes Tom, very close!
