Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I started the morning by re-grinding the cutter I spoilt yesterday by catching the hardened jaws of the vise. Then I reduced the castings for the crank pin bearing to the correct size. Tomorrow I shall do more work on the bearing but now I want my breakfast!

Morning
We had a dry walk to the bank yesterday but a wet walk back and a not vey successful shopping trip to M& S. I bought some opaque tights and after a debate with myself bought medium but find they are too small and will have to take them back this morning as I want them for our trip to Scotland, departing on Friday. I also need to take my new bus pass to the bus station office to pay my £10 to validate the pass for train and tram for the year . It won’t be valid in Scotland but we may use it in England soon after we get back. I spent the afternoon cutting out and hope to do some sewing today.
Have a good day all

Morning Sue... Sorry you got the wrong size tights..... Glad I don't have to estimate what size I would need.....
You have a busy day planned and I am going back to bed.... That tells the story! I'll be back later.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Trying to chase an order that I made with Amazon. Supplied directly from a UK supplier, tracked by DPD. I had an email on Monday to say it would be delivered yesterday. I was in all day, tracking says it was delivered at 12.44. I have checked all locations at the back and the front, its too big to go through the letter box. No notes have been left, no further emails or text messages and no photographs of the parcel. I have contacted the seller directly via and automated AI assistant. Asking if they have left it at any of the DPD drop off's in town, (we have four). The tracking does say it was delivered to my address though. Apparently I have to give them a couple of days to chase this but have further options for redress if that fails. Sally may have a late birthday present this year.

Isn't it annoying when a simple matter like a delivery becomes a drama Ian! Commiserations....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Indeed, if it was delivered and left outside it has either been nicked or left at an alternative address or it could still be on the van. I thought they had bar code scanners to prove what they claim and usually a photo for confirmation. We'll see.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I have checked out the third party supplier who are a technology wholesaler based in London. They look OK and have contact information. As it was ordered through Amazon, I will have to let that thread run its course.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I decided to check our local drop off points and started down at Singhs store on Gisburn Road. Fortunately my parcel had been dropped off there.
I have updated the AI chat with the supplier to that effect. It was on top of the pile of stuff dropped off yesterday by DPD, lots of parcels. Shop assistant said it was regular occurrence with the drivers especially if it is a bad day. I'm fairly sure no attempt was made to deliver to my address as I was in all day. Tracking stated my address. Double fault as no update was given as to where it was left.
I don't really blame the drivers although they are in the wrong, from experience they have far too many drops to do each day. Crap job so the easy option must be tempting.
Anyway Sally has her birthday present.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Glad you got it sorted Ian. But think what a problem that would be for a customer who was confined to the house.... I agree with you about the drivers being under pressure but that doesn't excuse the companies for tolerating such bad service.
(In my mind I associate Amazon with contempt for the customer. That's why I refuse to deal with them.)
Here at Graham Towers I shall be in the shed for an hour.... Then an easy day. I might cook savoury rice to extend my cooking......

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I refined the front half of the crank pin bearing by making the location for the oiler, Drilling and tapping it 3/16" X 40TPI and then making the plug for it with a bit of knurling for David. That took me an hour and a quarter, slow, but error free. Now for breakfast!

I had my walk in the sunshine and a sit on traffic duty which was in the shade so the wind was cool on the back of my neck.....
Then I improved the shining hour by cooking savoury rice. I think that's quite enough honest endeavour.....

Whereabouts are you going Sue?

I like a bit of knurling me. I get a look at your skills daily when I adjust the knurled pegs from East Hill Street Engineering, on my brass perpetual calendar. I've given it a polish. Nice to have skilful friends.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
We travel to Edinburgh tomorrow by train from Rochdale. . The holiday starts on Sunday night but we have booked two extra nights at the same hotel. We booked this holiday through Great Rail journeys. So we all meet up ( just 22 of us) for the evening meal on Sunday. On Monday we go by coach to near Fort William via Glasgow staying at the Glencoe hotel. Then its trips out to various places, steam train trip, ferry to one of the Isles ets. Back to Edinburgh on Friday to a 4 course meal and entertainment from bagpipes etc. Back home by train on Saturday morning . We booked it the day Bob finished his treatment. The hotels have a spa and pool so we hope to have time for a swim or two.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
It sounds like a very Scottish experience, sounds wonderful!
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
That does sound good, the only downside for me would be the coach journey. I'm the wrong size for coach seats

It sounds as though that sea trip could be From Mallaig to one of the small Isles.... My favourite part of the West Coast. Enjoy......
I shall be in the shed for my daily dose of occupational therapy at 06:00. After that it looks as though the weather favours a walk and a sit on traffic duty.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I started the morning by making a replacement exhaust pipe for the engine, I damaged the original when removing it for painting.... Then I refined the crank pin bearing by drilling it for the two bolts that will attach the completed bearing to the connecting rod. This involved some careful measuring and marking and counterboring the front side of the holes to embed the bolt heads. All completed error free. I an ready to bore the bearing, fit it and make the con rod. Now for breakfast.

Morning
And a beautiful sky this morning. We are all packed. Bob will pop down to the local butty shop for some o their fantastic butties for lunch then it's a taxi just after 10 to the station where we will catch the train to Leeds. We have a 30 minute wait for the connection to Edinburgh. We are both really looking forward to this. Warm and waterproof clothing packed. Have a good day all

I used to love that journey up the East Coast when I made regular trips between Leeds and Edinburgh, then seeing the Pentlands and the castle and getting a thrill that it was home!
