Is the Loch Lynne trip today Sue?
I shall be in the shed as usual and then as it is forecast to be a rainy day, and windy with it, I shall be indoors until this afternoon when I have Covid Booster and Winter flu jab scheduled..... I shall have to brave the elements then!

Just one task this morning. Clean up the fit of the con rod foot on the bearing brass using the VM. Very careful cutting and the result is an assembly that's ready for fitting to the crosshead. But that will do for tomorrow. Right now it's breakfast!

Morning

Well the weather is holding but only 8 degrees today. I can’t believe the number of people who haven’t brought jumpers ( mainly from the SE). The trip to the locks was interesting. There were two boats coming down the stairs. At the bottom there was the main road and a railway line both on swing bridges. Later the Jacobite steam train ( which we will be on tomorrow) came through then the bridges both had to open to let the boats pass from the stairway into the canal. Apparently it was all a rare occurrence and we caught it. In Fort William we browsed a few shops but spent our time walking round the old fort and the museum. We didn’t have much time for the latter. The boat trip was 2 hours and things of interest were pointed out to us including a ship wreck, salmon fish farm and seal island.

Today we drive to Oban then take the car ferry as foot passengers to Mull. Another coach will take us to Tobermoray, followed be a different car ferry back to the mainland, and our first coach will oick us up for a scenic drive back to our hotel. A cold sunny day is forecast. Have a nice day all

I wonder if your ferry back to the mainland from Tobermory will be to Kilchoan on Ardnamurchan. Look out for the lighthouse!

We’ve done that in the opposite direction, in a coach, luckily we met nothing of any size coming the other way, I think we were very lucky that day.

Later in the morning and I was feeling guilty because, even though it has stopped raining I was not going out until later this afternoon when I have to go for my flu and Covid jabs. So I went in the shed and did a bit of overtime. I milled the flats on each side of the small end of the con-rod so it will fit in the slot in the crosshead. I feel better now!

I have challenged myself to walk 100 miles in the month of October, this time I'm hoping to raise money for Barnoldswick & Earby Bosom Friends which is such a wonderful local charity, If any of you would like to encourage me and support the charity there is a link below to my Just Giving Page.
I have already walked 39 miles in the last 9 days!

I shall be in the shed as usual but not for long as I am having an easy day today after my jabs yesterday. Like Kev, I have a sore arm on the winter flu side.....

It was a good job I did that bit of overtime yesterday because when I went in the shed and resumed work on refining the con rod I found that my sore arm from the flu jab was severely limiting my abilities..... I persevered until I had drilled for the crosshead pin and massaged the con rod end until it fitted nicely in the crosshead. Then I stopped. As you can see I am ready to fit the con rod to the engine. But for now I am defeated and will have an early breakfast. I'm more for nourishment than punishment!

Morning

Fabulous day yesterday, the conditions were perfect both on the ferry and driving down that single track road back to the hotel . Today we are out for 9 as we drive up to Fort William to catch the Jacobite steam train to Malaig. Having never read a single Harry Potter book and having slept through the only film we watched I am not interested in the film connections but am interested in the Jacobite connections which needs a bit of research. Apparently the views today are stunning. We will spend some time there and return to Fort William on the train. We hope to be back early enough to do a walk around the area of the hotel.

Its 1 degree this morning with a maximum of 8 forecast and the occasional shower. Have a good day all

Sue is going to get that marvellous view down to the sea from Concrete Bob's viaduct at Glenfinnan...... I envy her.

I have re-emerged form my cocoon after two hours of second sleep. I shall be back in there around midday.....

This morning was spent in fitting the co rod to the crank pin and the crosshead and making sure the clearances in the cylinder were correct so we had a full revolution with clearance at both ends of the stroke. That took an hour to get absolutely right but it is fitted perfectly now and I can move on to the valve train tomorrow. Now the task is breakfast!

Yes I did Stanley. Photographs were difficult though as we were sitting on the wrong side of the train. We all swapped seats on the way back but this time the train fid not stop for a photo opportunity. Great journey though, magnificent views all round. Today is a coach drive back to Edinburgh via the Falkirk Wheel. We have a free afternoon in Edinburgh this afternoon followed by a 4 course meal and entertainment of bagpipes and Scottish dancing. This marks the end of a great week including unexpectedly fabulous weather . We have a little rain today. Have a good day all
