Ahhh, so you have a fault somewhere.... Worrying stuff. Our outage was general I think and no obvious reason for it.
I shall be in the shed today at 06:00 and after second sleep will be cooking veggies for the next week. All the meat is cooked and dealt with. Quite amazing how fast it comes round!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I started the morning by milling the base of the bed and the tops of the horns. Then I took the vise off the VM, cleaned the mill and rubbed the bed down with a diamond hone to make sure there were no dings and then bolted the bed down directly on the mill. Next I fitted the 5/8" cutter and I am ready now to work on the casting tomorrow. Now the task is breakfast!

We had an intermittent fault once before but Bob found faulty wiring somewhere. We are lost about this fault.
We had an excellent day yesterday. We actually went in on the tram as there was one in when we arrived at the bus station. It takes just under the hour by tram so we were in Manchester by 11.25. We had time to go for a coffee , a quick stroll round before lunch, then to the wine tasting. Thanks to my sister’s teaching on our u3a wine group we were able to appreciate ( a bit better) what we were tasting. We were talking to one stall holder where we had to guess the grape ( we couldn't but knew what the wines weren’t) , he had been talking to Jane on Friday when they were at the same event elsewhere. We caught the train home about 4 as the station was just across the road from the event at the cathedral. The train trip is about 12 minutes as we caught the Leeds train where the first stop is Rochdale. We crossed the road in Rochdale and got a taxi home, the most expensive travel of the day. A good day out with all other travel on our bus pass. We pay £10 a year so that our pass includes tram and train in the Greater Manchester area.
Today is the usual weather, Bob is out of course, i intend doing some more garden tidying. The heavy work is done now but there is still lots to do. Have a good day all

Morning Sue.... we have the same weather as yesterday, it's damping, you can hardly call it rain but what it means is we have a damp dark day. In other words, November!

Getting ready for the Barlick remembrance service this afternoon. Shirt and tie sorted and I have just polished my shoes.
Sally will be laying a wreath on behalf of Bosom Friends and I will be laying one of three for the branch Labour Party. As we are a dual branch with Earby now the party also lay wreaths at Earby and Salterforth memorials.

Morning
What a start to the day yet another power cut, about 5.30 this morning. We have no idea what is causing it. As the fuse box is in the garage we have to go out side to switch things back on. We left it till just now.
This morning is french in Haslingden and this evening yoga on zoom . I have no other plans as it depends on the weather. I did not get out in the garden yesterday as it was wet all day, not sure of todays forecast. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I do hope you find the fault Sue. Very worrying. I'm sure Bob is directing his attention to it! And yes, we are promised sunny weather!

I spent an hour this morning milling the parts of the bed accessible to me and finished up with a lot of improvement. There is more to do yet by hand but this is a useful move forwards.

I am back in the world after two hour's second sleep. I have started the rest of the day well by vacuuming upstairs. When I have got over the shock I shall do downstairs as well....

I got carried away, I mopped the vinyl in the kitchen and vacuumed downstairs. That got it to noon so I declared my exercise needs as fulfilled by my housework. I shall have a sit, then dinner and then perhaps a dad nap!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
We had a much brighter day Gloria but not quite the full sun we were promised in the forecast.
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 to do useful things to my castings. I have a cabbage that is crying out for cooking (I over-bought my veggies slightly this week!) so I might do something useful with that later this morning. I fancy something savoury with garlic and onion.....
Then I will consider a walk...

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I started the day by making some final small refinements to the bed and then started on the base, I have milled the bottom level and also milled the tops of the lugs for the holding down screws. Tomorrow I shall get hold of it differently and mill the top surface flat. But at the moment I am interested in breakfast!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
We had a beautiful day yesterday if a little cold. Sadly I had no time to get out in the garden as I forgot I had an appointment at the optician for an adjustment on my new glasses and then I had to collect some underpaid post from the central office. Annoyingly it was shut so we will go again this morning. Anyway it was nearly 3.30 when I got back and not enough time to garden before yoga .
It looks like it could be a similar day so I hope to get a couple of hours in the garden . Have a good day all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I switched my flanellette sheets to normal cotton sheets a few weeks ago , and today I changed my bed Quilt from my winter one to my summer one. Our nights are getting warmer, it’s time!
(Quilt, Duvet, Doona… take your pick).
My winter quilt spent all day on the clothes line in 28C heat, before I packed it away for next winter.
I’ve gone from a 7.5 TOG to a 4 TOG.
Over summer, many nights will be slept under a cotton sheet only.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I finished the milling of the base and bed then spent time on them in the vise filing by hand to further refine the finish. When I was satisfied with them I cleaned the bed of the mill and put the vise back on, tramming it in using a long piece of ground gauge steel. It is now ready for the next milling job, the cylinder casting. Before that there is more work on the base and the bed but that's for tomorrow. Right now the job is breakfast.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Not such a beautiful day yesterday but ok. I did a couple of hours in the garden, then after lunch we walked in to Rochdale to the bank . We got back in plenty of time for a couple of hours sit down before pilates and yoga. I am pleased to say that the anti inflammatories are easing my back and my hands just a little so my flexibility is returning. The GP recommended garlic tablets too so I am giving that a whirl. I have an appointment to discuss my back xray but it is some time off. I read the report on the NHS app and it is as expected….ie old age

This morning is packing for the weekend as we are off to Coventry to look after the grandchildren. Julia and Ed have a ‘works do’ to celebrate 50 years of Ed’s place of work. We also need to pack for France as we leave on Tuesday morning after a dental checkup. Claire is coming over for lunch and I am at Maxine’s this afternoon. It’s zoom pilates early evening. Busy day as usual
Its a misty start to the day and very cold, just 2 degrees . Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
One of the things I have learned Sue, but this doesn't necessarily apply to you, is that anti-inflammatories seem to make my pains worse. Another thing is that Garlic seems to help and I use a lot in my cooking. I wish you luck in your search for the most efficient regime. Of course old age doesn't help but it is not the be all and end all. You can be old and pain free at the same time!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Anti inflammatories do work for me but I do not want to take them all the time. The garlic has to be raw, I like you cook with garlic all the time. The new young GP I saw did a dissertation on the effects of garlic as an anti inflammatory and pain killer and it only really works if it is raw. I bought odourless tablets from a ´well known’ health food stores. Apparently it has similar biochemical pathways as ibuprofen, which I can’t take.Stanley wrote: ↑13 Nov 2024, 08:05 One of the things I have learned Sue, but this doesn't necessarily apply to you, is that anti-inflammatories seem to make my pains worse. Turmeric has limited effect despite the modern hype. It has an active ingredient that is also in black pepper but only in trace amounts. Just using the spice itself has little effect. I did a lot of research on this and as usual stuck to the more academic articles and research papers.
The yoga and pilates controls most of the back problem, I think I had a little flare up for some reason . The xray tells me little that I didn ‘t know except it has got much worse, according to the report.
So my reaction is now I know its nothing more serious then get on with it. Get this bout of inflammation under control and move on. It takes a lot to slow me down,
