Yesterday afternoon I thought we had the beginnings of Storm Darragh but it wasn't, that wind and rain was just a warm up act and I think it has rained all night. This morning the glass has fallen like a stone to 976mb and we have a SW wind gusting to 35mph, that will change by 07:00 to a strong NW wind that will be with us all day with gusts up to 60mph. It will rain all day. That is storm Darragh! We have 7C now with a wind chill of -4 and that 's the high for the day. Tonight the low will be 3C. We can expect a wind chill of -6C for most of the day. We can expect another stormy day tomorrow and then on Monday the weather starts to calm down a bit and we will go into the week with boring overcast wet weather with seasonable temperatures.

Status Report from Taunton, Somerset, UK. We're still here and intact!
At 7.00 pm yesterday evening our meal was interrupted by a strange noise. We're now used to so many home appliances and reversing vehicles outside making odd noises that it took a few moments to realise that the sound was a bit like a siren. We went into the kitchen to investigate and found it was all emanating from Mrs Tiz's smartphone and when she opened the case it was the Red Alert for dangerous strong winds. We took emergency action - went back, refilled our wine glasses and ate our dinner!

More seriously, I'm glad they sent out the alert because the wind has been very dangerous. Not just due to the wind speed but to its blustery nature. It's still blowing now and in the daylight we see that it's difficult to judge which direction it's coming from. Trees are swinging from one side to the other in seconds. We're lucky, we haven't had any damage but it must be bad for folk living on higher ground and near the coast. Both Severn bridges are closed of course. There's almost no cars and no people to be seen. I hope I'm not tempting providence - the very strong winds are predicted here all today and with gusts up to 70mph.

I was just going to post about you Peter! I Have talked to my nephew who is on the south coast and he says he can hear the wind roaring over the hill behind him and see what it's doing in the bay but he is sheltered.
We haven't got any bad wind, all the houses shelter each other down in the town. Just gloomy and wet!

The wind is picking up a bit now, it's whistling over the chimney tops.

It confirms my belief that flying is not for me! I love watching the planes though, when Craig was young Edinburgh Airport was a great place to go for a couple of hours entertainment, you could park for free and sit in the cafe watching the planes.

Thanks everyone! The blustery winds are still very strong here and now it's raining hard too. The rain hitting the windows sounds more like hailstones but it's just high-velocity raindrops! It's only a couple of weeks since the park in the town centre was flooded but I bet it will be under water again after all this.

Yesterday the height of the storm passed and didn't affect me at all. Just a breezy wet day. I realise that makes me very lucky! We had an overcast and windy night but on the whole it was dry. This morning it is breezy, overcast, dry and not cold. The barometer started rising at 09:00 yesterday and this morning is on 1016mb and still rising. We still have weather warnings for wind, but it will be a breezy, bright day with partial overcast and some sunshine and showers. The northerly winds will be strong, gusting to 50mph but gradually reducing through the day. We can expect a high of 8C, al low of 4C tonight and a wind chill of -5C all day. It will feel like below freezing until late morning. The outlook is for the wind to reduce overnight and we can expect three brighter calmer days before we return to gloomy overcast on Thursday.

We’ve had some strong gusts during the night, but no damage to be seen. Been out to put bird seed on lawn and it is bitterly cold.

Yesterday afternoon was wet and windy until after 15:00 when the rain stopped and it started to clear. By 20:00 we had a clear sky. This morning it was breezy, overcast and dry. I've been outside for a shufti and we have spots of rain on the wind now. The glass has continued it's rise from 975mb and this morning is on 1032mb! The forecast is for a dry day with sunny intervals up to noon. The NE wind will be moderate and gusts to 30mph giving us a high of 7C and a low of 3C tonight with a wind chill of -3C or 4C for most of the day. The outlook is for a similar day tomorrow and then more overcast weather for most of the rest of the week. Let's be glad we are shut of that wind!

Yesterday afternoon we had light rain by 15:00 but it soon dried up and we had an overcast but dry night. This morning first thing it was calm, dry and overcast, the only change since then is that we now have a light breeze but it's still dry. The glass is up on 1035mb and tending to fall, the forecast is for a dry but overcast day with the possibility of sunny spells until early afternoon. The constant moderate ENE wind gives us a high of 6C and a low 0f 3C tonight with a constant -4C wind chill all day. The outlook is for similar weather, mainly overcast but dry. Not bad for December!

Much the same here Stanley. We had a good walk yesterday morning, which was fine except for the occasional blast of icy cold air, still we kept dry.

Yesterday stayed dry but at 20:00 it was overcast. This morning it is overcast but dry and we have a light breeze. The glass is down a bit on 1033mb and the forecast is for a dry but overcast day. The constant light ENE wind will be with us all day. We can expect a high of 6C and a low of 4C tonight with a wind chill of -3C. The outlook is for similar weather, perhaps slightly warmer but don't expect a heat wave!
