Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I spent over 45 minutes fitting the bottom halves of the crankshaft bearings into the bed. This entailed refining the bearing blanks and their beds in the casting and then modifying the crankshaft until it was a perfect fit. Lastly I punched witness marks into the wings of the bearings so that their orientation couldn't be mixed up. I am very pleased with the fit, it's good! I deserve my breakfast.

Morning
My cold seems to be progressing to the same cough this morning, otherwise we both have a light cold and a negative covid test. Neither of us feels particularly ill . We shall just watch out for the cough. I do a daily inhalation anyway so hopefully will keep it from developing further
Today is the wine groups Christmas lunch, we are booked in at our favourite Italian restaurant at the lake. We are going by taxi . Otherwise I have some ironing tp do. I didn’t have time last weekend and won’t this weekend. Its not like me to have a basket full.
Rain forecast today, have a good day all

Morning Sue.... I hope your colds ease off for Xmas..... Just had mail from Susan. She is in full Xmas swing at the London International Horse show watching the indoor carriage driving. It's being held at ExCeL London.

She said it smelt horsey! Her husband Mick's brother is Wilf Bowman-Ripley (LINK) and that's the connection with horses and carriage driving.....
I shall be in the shed as usual at 06:00 working on my crankshaft bearings. The forecast of rain is not encouraging me to walk and there is no reason for me to go out so I shall take a view on the rest of the day when I see what the weather is doing......

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I spent over 45 minutes entirely on the two top components of the crankshaft bearings. First I fettled the flash off with the grindstone, then Milled all the faces square and to equal dimensions. (It was while I was doing this I discovered the blowhole in one of them. I could get a replacement from Stuarts but is it worth the hassle?) Then I polished the faces on fine emery paper and finished by breaking the edges with a file. I finished with them ready for the final stages, that can wait until tomorrow. The job now is breakfast.

Morning
I have a really bad throat and no voice, that will teach me to talk for three hours at our lunch yesterday. It all went very well. We were both tired and were in bed by 10.30 and woke at at 7.45 this morning.
After breakfast we are off to Bacup market for some eggs and pick up our Christmas meat order, otherwise I don’t think either of us will be doing much today. Have a good day all

Sorry to hear that Sue...... I hope you don't make it worse by going out in what in Barlick is some nasty cold wet and windy weather!
I am dealing with my Xmas meat.... I am defrosting my slab of Pork Belly but first I shall go in the shed and set the edges on my knives on a fine oilstone..... I do like sharp knives!

The pork Belly is in the slow cooker starting its journey through a long slow cook. That's the meat for Xmas assured! A lot easier than an enormous turkey..... I've had my dinner and a dadnap is looking quite attractive.

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 doing useful things to my bearings. After second sleep I shall be thinking about braving the cold for a short walk to the Co-op for a couple of last minute items! Apart from that it will be a quiet day as usual looking after myself!

Morning
We both paid a visit to the pharmacy yesterday to get something for our coughs, which have affected us differently. However after two doses, I checked the leaflet in mine to see if I could have a glass of wine with my tea, when reading the small print I found there was a contraindication with one of my tablets, good job I checked. I had no voice throughout the day yesterday and have not yet tried to speak today.
We are breakfasting early to drive to Coventry to deliver Christmas presents gathered from various friends and relatives up here. We are all having lunch out then we will drive back. Hope the traffic is not too bad. I am looking for ward to seeing the new bedroom and ensuite in that has been made in the roof space. Have a good day all

Morning Sue. Keep warm and have a safe journey to Coventry and back. Not something I would like to be doing!
I spent just over an hour on the two top brasses and am almost there. I just have to drill and tap the bed and fit the studs. I admit to being slow but I have made no mistakes.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I shall be in the shed finishing the top brasses for my crankshaft and fitting them. Then setting up for boring them.
The main task after that is giving my feet a good soak as my chiropodist Robin is coming at dinnertime. My feet will be singing Xmas Carols this time tomorrow.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
One clear task this morning. Mark drill and tap the holes in the bearing horns to accept the 4BA studs that will retain the bearing caps. That has been done and I have also drilled the oil holes in the caps. These are off centre because I have been influenced by the blow hole in the casting. I'm hoping that the misalignment caused by this won't leap out at the casual observer. They will be perfectly fine for feeding oil to the bearings. The studs have been fitted with Loctite and I shall let them cure overnight before tightening the caps down. I can also see that I will have to make a further adjustment to the crankshaft but that's simple and also for tomorrow. Now for breakfast!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
The trip to Coventry and back went well, the only excessive traffic of note was at the NEC on the way there. Even Sunday lunch out was quiet. We went to a Toby carvery, lots of roast meats Yorkshire pud and veg for a fixed price. The girls and Bob had a dessert but Julia, Ed and I did not. We were home just after 8. 00 pm
Julia and Ed are up to their eyes in decorating as the builders managed to finish their loft conversion last week, in total in just about 6 weeks. They now have the extra bedroom they needed without moving, but all the boxes that were in the roof space are now in the lounge. In short they are living in a pickle but it will be worth it in the end. For a fraction of the price of moving they will now have the extra bedroom they needed for Briony. We were very impressed with the builders who were, clean, efficient, and quick. They did it all including the plans, electrics, plumbing and changing all the doors in the house to meet the present day building regulations. Now Julia and Ed have decorating to do, fitted wardrobes to put in and storage to organise for the boxes in the living room. I don’t envy them. B is excited as she will have Ed and Julias room and is already planning the lay out
Today we have no plans, a day of rest and pottering I think. The cold that is not a cold lingers on in the cough and in my case no voice but neither of us feel ill just tired. It is obviously some sort of respiratory system virus, that has not given us the usual cold symptoms.
Its a cold morning with a clear sky and the wind appears to have died down. Have a good day all

Pesky little beggar! I hope it gets fed up and goes away Sue. Rest and pottering sounds about right.

If it is I could never access it Kev. Robin is like clockwork, does a wonderful job and comes to me at home.

The forecast says we are to have an overcast wet day with a breeze so I think I shall cower indoors....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I finished fitting the top brasses and then spent half an hour very carefully refining the width of the crankshaft cheeks so that they fitted in between the brasses. I think you can guess what a tragedy it would be to make a mistake at this point so I took my time w3ith a newly sharpened cutter and very small cuts. As you can see from the image. it fits comfortably between the brasses now. I can start thinking of boring the bearings now. But the next job is breakfast!

Morning
Slept later again this morning, another 8.5 hours of sleep. This virus is really knocking us out, though as I said apart from the cough and in my case the voice we feel ok. We did little yesterday apart from a jigsaw and a little sewing and Bob went in his work shop. This morning we are going into Rochdale by car to go to the best greengrocers ever. We need a few salad bits for our starters tomorrow and an aubergine as Bob is doing a curry meal this evening. After that, no plans.
