Yesterday was bright, sunny and cold. It stayed clear all night and was still calm and clear first thing this morning. The glass was steady on 1029mb. However, since then we have acquired overcast and the forecast is for a day of dunkelflaute extending into Saturday morning. The constant SW winds will be light and we can expect a high of 7C and a low of 0C tonight with perhaps a -2C wind chill at times. The outlook is for two brighter dry days and then back to the overcast with similar temperatures to today.

Yesterday afternoon was classic dunkelflaute, uniform grey overcast but dry. It was like that all night and this morning the only change is that the overcast is broken cloud..... The glass has fallen slightly to 1027mb and the forecast is for it to clear from 09:00 and gradually become clear into the night. The light southerly winds give us a high of 4C and a low tonight of -2C under the clear skies. The wind chill will never be more than -2C. The outlook is for similar weather with lots of dry overcast. It looks as though the lady was right when she forecast that we would have to start using dunkelflaute as a description......

Hot, hot, hot here 🙃. No rain in sight. 😞
My daughter arrives home tonight from her travels. It will still be 28C.
Our Airport is by the sea and I’m hoping there will be a sea breeze surrounding her as she steps off the plane. 🤞

That would put our lights out Cathy! My Susan is in Kalgoorlie this morning and she says it is cooler. I know Margaret has been hot in Perth.....
We are just above freezing and I think we'd rather have that than 34C!

I told you I'd believe the sun when I saw it. We still have overcast...... (And that's a thin wind as well!)
I've been for a short walk and posted my letter..... Not very cheerful out there.

Yesterday afternoon stayed overcast but bright and dry. It was overcast all night and this morning it's calm, overcast and cool. The glass is down on 1019mb and the forecast is for a dry but misty and overcast day. The constant WSW winds will be light and we can expect a high of 2C and a low of -1C tonight with a -3C wind chill at times. The outlook is for it to be marginally warmer and dry but mainly overcast. Dunkelflaute seems to be the rule nowadays!

Yesterday afternoon stayed dry but overcast and I think was a bit cooler than the day before, It was mostly overcast overnight and first thing was calm, cool and dry under an overcast sky. It is still the same. The glass is steady on 1015mb and the forecast is for an overcast day with a chance of light rain from noon onwards. The very light wind is mainly SW but at times visits all points of the compass. We can expect a high of 3C and a low of 3C tonight with only a slight wind chill for most of the day. The outlook is for warmer weather but guess what, it will be mainly overcast!

Yesterday the light rain persisted right through the afternoon and evening and into the night. First thing this morning it was calm coll and overcast. Damp but not actually raining although the Met Office site says it is. The glass is down on 1009mb and the forecast is for a day of wall to wall overcast and light rain. The constant light to moderate SW wind gives us a high of 5C and a low tonight of 2C with a -3C wind chill for much of the day. The outlook is for a brighter day tomorrow then two days of overcast and rain before reverting to brighter weather for the rest of the week. I have seen much worse Januaries than this!

Yesterday afternoon saw another deterioration, we had light rain for most of the afternoon. During the night the overcast lightened but persisted. This morning first thing it was calm cool and overcast but dry, it hasn't changed since. The glass is down on 1004mb and tending to fall. The forecast is for a misty start (There's a yellow weather warning for fog) but then the overcast lightening and breaking with sunny spells perhaps later in the day. The constant westerly winds will be very light giving us a high of 5C and a low of 1C tonight with a wind chill of perhaps -2C. The outlook is for warmer but unsettled weather, tomorrow could be wet and windy.

Same here now Gloria....
I see they are describing the Atlantic storm that is going to hit the West coast of Ireland on Friday as 'very serious.

See THIS

Storm Éowyn has been named by the Met Office and will bring severe gales to parts of the United Kingdom on Friday. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for wind on Friday and Saturday. Gusts of up to 90mph (145km/h) - or possibly even more - could bring localised damage, power cuts and travel disruption. Heavy rain and hill snow are also expected. It will mark a big change from the quiet and rather cold weather that has dominated over the last week or so, bringing mist and fog to some parts of the UK.

Yesterday afternoon the mist cleared but if there was any sun I missed it. By dusk it was damp but not raining if you see what I mean. It was overcast all night and this morning it is calm, overcast and dry. The glass is falling and is down on 998mb. The day is forecast to be overcast and there will be rain from 09:00 onwards. The wind starts the day as a very light southerly but starts increasing this morning and by noon is a brisk WSW gusting to 45mph. We can expect a high of 6C and a low of 1C tonight with a wind chill later of -6C in the strong wind. The outlook is for very strong winds tomorrow as storm Eowyn reaches its height, there is an amber weather warning from 06:00 to 21:00. After Friday things settle down a bit!

Yesterday afternoon it brightened up and we actually saw some blue sky. It was clear at times during the early part of the night but clouded over later. This morning we have rain which will last until dawn but contrary to all the storm warnings, no wind. I suspect this is because it's coming from the SW and we are sheltered by the Weets. The glass is down on 980mb and of course the forecast is an amber warning of wind from Storm Éowyn. The wind is forecast to be mainly strong SW and gusting to 70mph. At the moment we are not feeling it as we are in the shelter of the Weets. We can expect a high od 6C and a low tonight of 1C with up to a -7C wind chill. The outlook is for similar temperatures, bright sun tomorrow, rain on Sunday and Monday and then brighter dyer weather for the rest of the week.
Later at 05:00. The glass is falling rapidly, it is almost down at 970mb.
05:22. The Shipping forecast is horrendous. Gales in all areas and many are hurricane force 12. The worst I have ever heard.

The bottom horizontal run of my drainpipe over the kitchen roof has come adrift. I will sort that when the wind abates. Main roof troughing is temporarily discharging straight onto the kitchen roof, it will still find its way into the kitchen roof troughing so its not a hugh problem. I will make new bracket to brace it to the side of the kitchen roof, it had one before but that has also gone adrift. Easy acces from the escape window in our back bedroom.

No major problems but I have opted to stay safe at home! Highest gust so far 64mph. We were alarmed in the early hours by a strange noise that coincided with a strong gust of wind. I got up to investigate but couldn't see any problems. When it got light we saw that an empty IBC in its metal cage had blown off the hill behind us, rolled down the slope and knocked a gap in the dry stone wall.

Oh! Hopefully there's no livestock making escape plans, them pesky sheep get everywhere. Looking at your weather station we appear to have got off lightly so far, I've read reports there are several wagons blown over, north of Tebay Services, on the M6.

Am I the only one who didn't know - I wondered what an IBC was - and imagined it must be a ferocious little b****r since it had to be kept in a metal cage. Now I know it's just one of these.
