Yesterday afternoon was bright and breezy and the clear sky at nightfall persisted all night. First thing this morning it was calm clear and frosty and it hasn't changed since. The glass has risen to 1020mb and is still rising. The forecast is for a dry day with full sun until mid morning when a heavy overcast takes over for the rest of the day. It looks rather like the return of dunkelflaute. The northerly winds will be light and our high will be 9C with a low tonight of -2C. There will be a wind chill of -2C at most. The outlook is for two overcast days tomorrow and Monday but after that it brightens up and the good news is that it will be warmer.

Commiserations Cathy! That's far to hot for anyone..... I hope your more clement weather arrives soon. We are warming slightly but only to about 15C..... :biggrin2:
PS, Susan and Mick have flown over to the East coast and she was greeted with cooler weather and rain. This thrilled her to bits!

I hope it warms up a bit more by this afternoon, I'm going out onto the road to do some litter picking. It's busier than usual out there with folk avoiding the hold ups on the main road.

The dunkelflaute hasn't happened yet and as Gloria says, there is warmth in the sun. So I have been for a walk and some milk and cheese from the Co-op.

Yesterday afternoon continued bright, clouding over a little later on but we had a clear night once it got dark. This morning first thing it was calm clear and cold . There were some small fluffy clouds but not enough to block the almost full moon. It hasn't changed since, still clear. The glass is up on 1023mb and steady. The forecast is for a dry day but heavily overcast all day. (They said that yesterday and it was wrong.) The light wind is variable in direction until this afternoon when it settles to a moderate NE. We can expect a high of 10C and a low of 2C tonight with a wind chill that reaches -3C in mid afternoon with the moderate NE wind. The outlook is still for brighter warmer weather next week.

The Met Office have made the same mistake as yesterday. Instead of heavy overcast we have full sun and it's warm out there because there is no wind. :good:

The breeze is picking up here and a few spots of rain have fallen. I might have to abandon gardening and watch F1.

SW London had frosty rooftops even as the sun was rising early enough to wake me for a half listen to F1 at 430am. Melbourne had weather that I had not expected given what I thought the longer forecasts I heard were anticipating. London sits in the valley of the Thames - which causes summer problems, but this also means there are a variety of hills, such as Primrose to the North where I sometimes go, but today I was in the Surrey fringes where the bus climbs around a hill to reach a 2nd peak of the three that get toward the Surrey Hills ( Norwood - where Crystal Palace TV Transmitter being the first ridge out of inner Zone1/2 London), the common atop the hill sits near to Kenley Airfield - like Biggin Hill in Kent these plateau gave excellent aircraft take off into the wind that blows - often cold as of today despite the late winter sun up at an angle enough to give warmth in sheltered spots. The converse of the hill is the next frost hollow beyond that often makes road conditions slippery and the need for an extra blanket on the bed should you need to stay with a relative in that area.

Yesterday followed the pattern of the day before. Instead of the forecast heavy overcast we had bright sunny spells. We never saw any of that rain down here in Barlick. This morning first thing we had a light breeze and it was overcast but dry. It hasn't changed. The glass is up on 1027mb and tending to rise. The forecast is for the overcast to melt away with the dawn and we are told it will be a dry sunny day. The constant easterly winds are light until mid morning when they become moderate. We can expect a high of 9C and a low tonight under clear skies of -2C. The wind chill will be as high as -4C around midday. The outlook is warmer and brighter until next weekend. March continues to treat us well.
See THIS Wikipedia article about the winter of 1947 when until mid-March we had one of the worst winters on record. I remember it well, going to school in short trousers.... :biggrin2:
Later at 03:30. We have had a brief spatter of rain that wasn't on the hymn sheet!

I have just come back in from a walk to the pharmacy for my meds and a quick pop in to the Co-op. I can always find a shelf filler! Now I'm going to get warm and have my dinner, that wind is bloody cold!

SW London is grey , the phone app said 0deg c at one time wind is around and on the cold side but not too cold - but the buildings shelter us. If I didnt have electric I would probably need to buy a large dog and a thick overcoat

Yesterday afternoon stayed bright and dry but the wind was cold and we had the forecast -4C wind chill! It was clear and breezy as night fell and mainly clear all night This morning it's breezy clear and cold, we have a hard frost (-5C). The glass is steady on 1027mb and the forecast is for a clear day with full sun. The constant easterly winds will be moderate and gust to 30mph during the day. We can expect a high of 10C and a low tonight of -3C. The outlook is for bright, warmer weather and frost free nights.

Yes Wendy we still have a -3C wind chill down here but it is full sun and lots of heat in it. This afternoon will be good I think. I am having a hot drink and then I shall venture out but well wrapped up!

SW London Phone App said 12deg C, despite the sun the chill wind made it feel different (but I only had two layers on) Forecast seems to be for cold north of birmingham to freezy just south thereof except for Selsey bill at 1 deg c

A decent look at the pressure chart forecast is interesting
Weds Blow the winds southerly, bringing up warm air from an azores direction . in a light breeze
Thurs wind moves a little to come from the east but still originating south so the warm should continue
Fri more cloud in the day and the easterly picks up a bit as a low moves off the coast of portugal
Sat the low sweeps cloud . showers and cooler air up
Sun the low moves up and a couple of occluded fronts nudge into southern england an a low about over Bristol rainy on and off with temps coming back a bit

Its unusual to get lows coming up from the south rather than more direct from the west I assume a jet stream pushed them south earlier in the week before bringing up at the end of the week
