I saw THIS in the news.....
South Western Railway (SWR) has been renationalised, making it the first train company to transfer to public ownership under Labour. The first nationalised service will leave at 05:36 from Woking to Surbiton though it will be partially covered by a rail replacement bus service. The government has hailed the move as a "new dawn for rail" but it held back from promising lower fares, focusing more on plans to improve services and use profits to reinvest in infrastructure. Unions have expressed concerns over outsourcing to private companies, while the opposition Conservatives said Labour must "deliver on their promises". SWR trains are now the responsibility of DfT (Department for Transport) Operator and will be integrated into Great British Railways (GBR), which will oversee all railway infrastructure. GBR will not officially exist until MPs vote to create it, which looks set to be in the autumn.

Nationalisation is not a panacea, many faults will have to be corrected without introducing others. I wish them well but have my doubts about sources of management and guidance....

Kev, that's the sort of news you don't need! We have enough on coping with our own ailments without Our children joining in. I hope it turns out to be minor and not life changing. My thoughts will be with you. Been there and done that.

He's very fit and active so it came as a bit of a surprise, I thought something was a bit 'off' when he stopped eating his dinner, he was sweating and felt cold to the touch with pain in his chest and shoulder. The paramedics did an ECG, which didn't show anything unusual, so they took him off to hospital. Blood tests identified his tropinine levels at over 1000 so he's now hooked up to various machines awaiting further tests. He was feeling a bit better about 10 last night as I had to take some supplies as he was starving (having missed dinner). He sent me a picture of breakfast this morning :-)

At least he's still got an appetite which is a good sign. We're hoping for the best possible outcome, Kev.

That's no age at all is it? Could be a warning that can be fixed, lets hope so anyway.

My brother and my nephew had heart attacks in their early 40s, both very fit and active and both recovered well. Different possible causes but the onset linked to stress at work in both cases.

I like the fact he was demanding food! As Peter says, always a good sign. Like you, I wait now until someone gives some definite information. I hope it's good news.....

Hopefully tomorrow's tests will get to the bottom of things and show exactly what is happening inside. My thoughts are with you all.

Following further tests they're treating it as a viral infection, they've withdrawn most of the drugs and he's just taking ibuprofen. If the 'markers' in his blood have reduced they'll chuck him out tomorrow and treat him as an outpatient. There may be an impact on his knee op scheduled for a couple of weeks time.

We had a visitor from Ireland earlier this year who ended up in A & E with a viral lung infection, at first they thought he might have had a heart attack because of markers in his blood.
