OT in the shed first thing and looking at the forecast temperature of 29C I suspect I shall be doing as little as possible for the rest of the day.....

Morning

Another warm day, but the last dry one for over a week. It is forecast rain from tomorrow until at least a week on Sunday, not excessive rain but rain all the same. Today is busy. I have u3a art followed by a u3a Enjoyment of wine social this afternoon. Then we are off to the Italian at the Lake for a tea time meal. Poor Bob is then at an engineers meeting this evening where he will be giving a talk. Thats our day, have a good one

Morning Sue.... Very hot here in Barlick, I am not going out walking in it. I've just finished cooking another batch of extension cabbage and dealt with my cooked pork..... It's no wonder I keep batting on! You'd think I'd be fat with all this cooking but it must be the right stuff..... Have a quiet day Sue and hard luck Bob having to give another talk! That would be the last thing I would want weather like this..... :good:

After an hour in the shed doing useful things early doors it looks as though it is going to be another day of minimal activity because we are going to have another hot one.

A good 45 minutes..... Both the bed and the base are ready now for painting and further fitting. All the milling is done and the filing of the flash on the bed to finish fettling. I am happy and chasing my breakfast.

Morning

Today I shall change the bedding hoping to get it washed and dried before it rains this afternoon. We are off to the butchers at Haslingden after breakfast then the big task for today is to buy a small suit case.

We are going on a Great Rail holiday to the Danube for a cruise early in July. Our main suitcase is being collected a week on Monday and there is the problem. We are only allowed one medium suitcase between us for 11 days. We will be going by train from here and travelling for two days so will need overnight bags that are big enough for those two days plus extras that aren’t in our main case. It has to be small enough and light enough for us to carry ourselves. We have one, we need another. We are hoping Dunelm has one

Otherwise today will be a day to keep cool inside. Have a good day all

I had a wakeful night so at about 3.15 I decided to get up and listen to the dawn chorus. I took a cup of coffee and my phone with the Merlin bird identification app out to a seat in my flower garden and sat down ro wait. It was pleasantly warm out there at that time!
I could hear a distant tawny owl and the occasional curlew but it kicked off with a robin at 3.30 on the dot. The blackbirds joined in next, swiftly joined by blue tits, wrens, swallows and a crow (who wasn't really singing). It was wonderful hearing the songs start up all around me.
The app picked up a siskin, a black cap and a thrush, but they were fleeting.
My goldfinches were late to the party at 4.00am but very noisy after that. I stayed out till nearly 4.30 and the sun had risen behind the hill, crept back into bed and got a couple of hours sleep.

There was a strange rumble coming from the Barnoldswick direction.
Reported flight times seem to differ, but the Red Arrows should be heading east to west over Barlick this morning. Watch the skies around 10.45 ish.

Its always a fascinating occupation. I often do it sitting quietly with a drink especially in France where our orchard is basically woodland and where we live, like you Wendy, is very rural( apparently not a good selling point 🙁)

The marvels of the internet Cathy! I'm always glad when my kids are back on terra firma.... the more firmer the less terror....
I shall be in the shed for an hour and later I might grab a walk if it's not raining, we shall see. Nothing urgent shouting for attention at the moment.....

I started on the lids this morning, first the back lid. If you did one small task a day well you would eventually end up with an engine. That's my strategy and what I have done this morning. I have a back lid ready for bolt holes and fitting. Tomorrow I shall concentrate on the front lid. At the moment my sights are set on breakfast.

Morning

We managed to get our cases yesterday, what a minefield of sizes and ways to describe sizes. We eventually found the info online that we wanted that gave us a 25 kg capacity case that was neither too big nor too small, plus a smaller case that will do us for two days travelling and hotel stopovers. We have a very small one too that we will use.

Today i intend sewing, I am back in a good place after a number of failures and difficult weeks with my left hand . I am full of enthusiasm and the garden can wait.

What a hot sticky day yesterday. We had no rain, no storm just very hot and sticky. Today is a pleasant 18 degrees , a cooling breeze accompanied by grey skies. Showers are forecast all day. Have a good day all

The fixed point is, as usual, my hour of occupational therapy in the shed. I shall take a view on what else matters later when I see how accurate the forecast is. (The Met Office thinks it's raining here at the moment but it was dry the last time I looked.)

Another simple task took 45 minutes this morning. The aperture in the target end of the bed was ground out and brought to size, then the front cylinder lid was cleaned up turned to dimension and bored for the piston rod and gland. That's where I finished and went looking for my breakfast.

I'm off to stay with friends in Scotland for 3 days. Col will be dropping me off in Skipton to catch the 9.58 train to Carlisle, then on to Edinburgh where I catch another train to West Calder. My return trip goes through Lancaster rather than Carlisle, which will be a first for me!
