Yes it did and I managed to get everything finished. It tried to rain occasionally but it didn't amount to much. I did get stuck in the polytunnel later on though when we had a torrential shower.
Just heading towards Settle.

Yes I did, Skipton to Carlise, on to Edinburgh then back out to West Calder. My return journey on Thursday takes me via Lancaster instead of Carlisle which will be a first for me.

It sounds like a very scenic trip apart from any other delights Wendy. Have a good break...... :good:
I shall be in the shed early doors being useful. After that the main occupation will be watching heavy rain out of the window if the Met Office is to be believed. Mind you they sat it's raining heavily now but we have only just started with spatters of drops....

45 minutes spent on one simple task. Measure and mark stud positions on lids and drill them so that they can become templates for drilling and tapping the other castings. That's done and now I'm after my breakfast.

Morning

It certainly is a bit wet this morning, the empty water butt is now full to overflowing. One large geranium plant was broken and lying on the ground, probably a pigeon did it. Any way I went out to feed the fish and the birds and tried to rescue it. Another three fractured branches broke off so I grabbed a couple of small canes from the green house to tie the rest up and got absolutely soaked in the process.

Today I have no plans until pilates and yoga in the studio . Bob is out this afternoon helping to clear the workshop of one of the engineers who recently died. I will use the day to do loads of little jobs, a couple of sewing tasks, a picture to draw ready for art on Thursday and I shall write a packing list for our trip to the Danube. Our main case is being collected next Tuesday. At least with it being cooler this week and less sunny there is less chance of wearing what we want to pack . Have a good day all

Morning Sue, we still haven't seen the heavy soaking rain you describe, only a miserable thin mizzle.... Just as effective in not persuading me that a walk would be a good thing!
I can see what you mean about helping the packing......

We need rain in the far North West until tomorrow. Looking good at the moment. :extrawink:

All this talk about suitcases got me thinking - who invented wheels on them, Did he become a multi millionaire, and why did it take so long. Change from cardboard to plastic I'm guessing. I am always amused in old films where it is obvious that all suitcases are absolutely empty.

Good luck with the holiday. Uncle Jim did something similar recently and gave a good report.

A later development still since we started using aircraft is the change from two fixed wheels, (which we have) to four castors, that's another game changer especially for the folk that seem to take the entire house with them. They must surely pay a hefty excess for the privilege when they check in. We both checked bags 4-5K under our 22K limit for 10 days. We came home with kit that we didn't wear as well. We have also done city 3 or 4 day breaks in foreign parts with just carry on luggage. We have cases that are made for the overhead lockers. You can fill them and know that they are under the allowance for the cabin.

I remember once waiting to meet someone of a flight from LA and I saw a bloke come off the flight with nothing but a rolled up blanket and a paper back and it struck me that he had cracked packing for long distance travel.
I shall be in the shed early doors doing useful things to my castings. From a glance at the forecast it seems there is a good chance of a walk this morning. No sun forecast but calm, mild and dry..... I shall decide later.

A slightly different morning. I often say the Design Committee works during the night and sends me messages in the morning. I got one such message this morning when it dawned on me shortly after I woke up that I had made a mistake yesterday. Remember me drilling the clearance holes in the front lid? I forgot to bore the bottom two 5BA and the rest 4BA I bored them all 4BA clearance. So this morning I had to rectify the mistake. The best way to do this was to find two 4BA CS screws and use them in the bottom two holes. So I started searching through the treasure chests and eventually found the right drawer in my bench top cabinet. I have two countersunk screws and I have countersunk the two bottom holes. Problem solved but that was a patient three quarters of an hour. I deserve my breakfast.

Morning all

What a discussion about suitcases. It was a mine field looking for one last weekend. We are allowed just one case between the two of us at a maximum weight of 23 kg, though there is a discrepancy there as the tour operator ( Great Rail Holidays) says 23 and the people transporting the baggage to the ship at the Danube say 17 kg. We can take as much as we can carry when we travel to the ship. As we have chosen rail and not plane there is therefore no other weight limit. Despite the variety of cases we have they were all two small for such a joint capacity

We opted for a soft case on 4 beautifully smooth wheels , and a case with plenty of room for our clothes rather than packed tight as they will be sitting in there for ten days before they get unpacked. We then have a small bag each, one being little more than an overnight bag, the other slightly larger so that it can hold paperwork , toiletries , shoes, electronic stuff and reading material as we will be travelling by train for two days. As a matter of interest the new small case has 4 wheels, the older overnight case has only two and regularly flips over on bumpy pavements. The 4 wheel is more stable.

We go to London from Rochdale Station via Leeds which will take us to Kings Cross rather than Euston. The next day it is Eurostar to Brussels, then a train to Cologne I think. The following day is a coach trip to the ship at Passau. We have 7 nights on the ship and then a similar journey back but via Linz and Frankfurt. We are looking forward to the train rides and seeing the countryside and preferred that to the shorter journey with all the queues at airports and just seeing clouds . It is Great Rail Holidays, anyway, the company we went to Scotland with last October. Several people on that trip recommended the European holidays.

Today is another unplanned day and it somewhat depends on the weather as to what we do . Hopefully drier than yesterday when it rained all day. The rain gauge registered. 20 mm mid afternoon . I see the forecast is 21 degrees and no rain after about 8 a.m so I may get the rest of the front garden cleared. Have a good day all

Morning Sue! The last trip I had with my Carleton College students in 2000 was by rail into Europe starting with Eurostar and the continental rail system really impressed me. I hope you have as good an experience if not better!
We are having a dry overcast day here in Barlick and as it is calm it is quite pleasant out.

This morning I first tapped for the two CS screws and fitted them. I marked the hole positions for the 4 remaining 4BA studs and then drilled and tapped them.I had done almost an hour by this time and so left the fitting of the studs until tomorrow. At the moment I am after my breakfast.

Morning

More heavy rain this morning, but forecast to dry up this afternoon. Yesterday was warm and humid, with a light drizzle in the morning but I managed to get a lot of gardening done in the front. I am in the process of changing the plants there to make it easier in the future. The fast growing perennials are going to be replaced with fuchsias and other slow growing perennials.

This morning is art at Haslingden, this afternoon depends on the weather. Bobs car is in for a big service in Oldham and he has to be there by just after 8.00 am. He will come back by tram or bus but cannot use his pass till after 9.30 am. I will take him back to Oldham some time in the afternoon. Have a good day all

Stanley, I sometimes wonder what your close neighbours must think when they can smell the aroma’s of evening meals, and possibly hear noise from your shed, all before 6.00 am. 🤔 😊

Morning

It was an all day job for the car, a service , MOT and minor repair so Bob walked into Oldham centre, caught the tram to Rochdale and walked home. He was back by 11. We went to pick it up at 4.30, straight in to rush hour traffic. However we were not particularly held up. After a cuppa I did an hour of pruning and cutting back in the back garden which sadly cleared most of the flowers but did expose the new plants growing underneath. This morning I shall do a light hoe.

Its Friday so lunch out and no other plans. The forecast is showing a few intermittent showers, nothing of note and quite warm. I note on Whats App that Julia and Eve got back to Birmingham from Corfu, just after midnight. I hope they had a good few days break and post exam chilling. Have a good day all
