The plans of mice and men gang aft agley..... I had got some pork burgers at the Co-op because they were reduced and yesterday's plan was burger beans and fried eggs for breakfast and tea with fish and chips for dinner. The burger and eggs went well but the chip shop was closed for annual holiday so we struck out there!

Just for a change - and suddenly we're back in Bremen.

Bratwurst mit Kartoffelsalat. Actually Polish Silesian sausage.

That looks excellent David! And it would fit my dietary criteria. I was nowhere near as enterprising and had hot veggies and meat X three.
I am at the point in the week where I have to start thinking about cooking a chicken...... And I have some slices of pork in a spiced sauce that were on offer in the Co-op which are tempting me......

Youtube directs me to a lot of food review sites - I can't imagine why.

This is Gary Eats - he's the one who says "and all the rest of it" continually.

Here's what he had in London today and it made me a bit tempted to copy his lead - if only for the fact that he paid £36 per portion, inc of 12.5% service charge, and I could whip it up from my freezer for about £1.50 tops. Mine of course would be a Hollands Steak Pudding with Aldi French Fries, in contrast to his 'Ox cheek' suet puddingwith duck fat chips. I could probably have managed the creamed leeks with a bit of effor, but half a tin of 'garden peas' at 14p is quite an acceptable substitute.

I could feed myself easily for the week on the difference.

PS The number of these people who ostentatiously pretend they drink draught Guinness all the time, is a tribute to their PR department.

I occasionally get directed to them David and am always astounded by the prices..... But then you're talking to the bloke who still hasn't got over being charged £1-20 for a cup of tea in London!
I gave in to temptation and cooked the pork slices with a tin of beans and a dash of Lea and Perrins and that Meant an extra two and a half helpings added to the fridge and an augmentation to the ready cooked meals in the fridge. I think that means I had half normal meat and veggies and half pork and beans for my three hot meals yesterday. I promise I shan't cook anything today.....

Lunch today was light and very much Barlick generated. I toasted two slices of home made sour dough bread. I had crunchy peanut butter on one and slathered the other with some of our Jack's honey from his bees. The latter tasting like the heather the bees foraged from, lovely.

Tea will be home made chicken curry with rice, sides and home made Naan Bread made from my sour dough discard. I have plain and garlic variants to choose from. :extrawink:

My last post reminds me that I need to lift 10 out of the fridge for his weekly warm and feed. I will be making some replacement Naans from the discard and another loaf after I have fed him up. 1 x 500g flour sour dough loaf just last about a week, we are at the far end of last weeks bake today. My regime works well, warm, discard and feed 10 on Friday or Saturday, make flat breads, mix loaf late afternoon or early evening when 10 is active, stretch and fold and set up in Banneton before going to bed, shove it in the fridge for a slow rise. Bake off Saturday or Sunday when convenient.

The idea of eating out at a restaurant has little appeal these days, and I haven't done it for a long time.
I've been checking out the menu at our local pub and find that prices have easily doubled since I last attended, and the menu has been changed to include more items with cheap ingredients. For instance there are no steaks featured now, and "a trio " of local sausages costs about £18. It'll be a while before I do it again. I do however have an itch to scratch - I fancy a Chinese takeaway and may give in this weekend. They seem to have doubled too - but £4 to £8 does not seem as bad as £9 to £18. Cash only may be a problem though - I've almost forgotten what it looks like.

I have been of that opinion for many years now David. The only time it happens now is if I am away from home and that doesn't happen often. It's not just the price, it is my aversion to any ingredient that has been 'processed'. Mind you, prices are serious now. My veggie shop cost £26 yesterday.....
Yesterday I had hot meat and veggies X three and today I shall be cooking the next batch of veggies....
PS. I like cash and always use it in the local shops. You know exactly where you are with a pocket full of money. The debit card is reserved for the Cathedral of Choice.....

I have taken 10 out of the fridge for a warm. Will make some Naan's before lunch today and that will be it for cooking for us. We will be out for tea, Mexican at Wax and Taps on the Town Square, they are having a fund raiser for Bosom Friends so it will be a pleasure to support.

I have last weeks cooking in a corner and yesterday I had 3 helpings of hot meat and veggies. The balance of the ingredients changes with every helping and at the moment it's superb, I am really enjoying it. :biggrin2:

I forgot to feed 10 last night after his warm. Did did it first thing this morning and already he is active to the top of the jar threatening to make an escape. Will just finish on here then nip out for some more strong flour for my bake. If I sort that this morning the loaf will get a nice long rise in the fridge.

I had Mexican, chicken, veg and Jalapeño taco's yesterday for tea, excellent from Matt at Wax & Taps. Sally had cheese, rice and veg Burrito's. Jack and Lucy joined us for a beer or two.

So - not a meat and potato pie with rice pudding to follow then?

********

I satisfied my urge for a Chinese takeaway last night. Least said soonest mended. I'm embarassed to say how much I paid, and how awful it was - so I won't. My reputation as a canny consumer is destroyed at a stroke. . . . . :laugh5:

I can see the local Chinese takeaway from my front garden, it has a very good reputation and is considered to be reasonably priced.
We usually have the smaller box and substitute the sweet and sour sauce for curry sauce.
