As reported elsewhere lift my starter from the fridge to warm.
This afternoon we have a chat booked at the gym with Katie, encouraged by our Jack who uses the facilities. They have an over 60's group that will probably be beneficial for us both. Brew and a chat to see what they can offer. Interested to see what they have done with my Uncle Bobs Joiners Shop at the former Skipton Road Gas Works which I knew well back in the 60's and 70's.
Car service was sorted yesterday, as was our assessment at the gym yesterday afternoon.

That took just over an hour, a 15 minute chat with the instructor (Dan) who noted our strengths and any weaknesses, that was reinforced with about an hour in the gym with some very basic upper and lower body strength, stretching and mobility exercises and using some of the kit to see how we got on. we were finally measured, waist, hips thighs and calves. We have already decided to sign up for the course so we had a couple of emails from the club later in the day. These gave us information for completing registration and how to download the phone app that you can use to book your sessions and track your progress. You can do this on your phone or on the equivalent site online. We decided to register on the phone app separately as there may be odd sessions that Sally can't do at the same time as me due to our Ruby coming up and she will be taking her and Isla to Liverpool for a couple of days. No problem for the gym as they will probably be running two groups so you can select your own sessions that are best for your individual circumstances. We completed our registrations this morning. The groups are instructor led with no more than four in each group session. Two sessions per week over eight weeks so sixteen sessions in total. Looking forward to it as I am certain it will be beneficial for both of us.

I shall be in the shed early doors for my morning exercise.... I am very close to a session later in the day giving the base castings a coat of black paint because we are promised painting weather for the next few days! Otherwise I shall be doing nothing slowly to avoid getting overheated!

One simple task, make the gland for the valve rod out of the rough casting supplied. Decide on the orientation and give it a witness mark. Then measure and mark for clearance holes for 5BA studs. (3.3mm) Tomorrow I'll mark drill and tap the valve chest and fit the studs. The next goal this morning is breakfast.

Morning

It's a trip round Cologne this morning then a 4 hour train trip to Passau. Yesterday went well though despite the fact that heresay is that European trains are never late both were 35 minutes late with people missing connections. We were ok as we had a 90 minute gap between trains. Have a good day.

You’ve had quite a rail journey even before you get on the boat. Did you arrange that yourself, or did the riverboat company do it?

It's all arranged by them apart from going to London which we did.. so there is another very late train to takes us toFrankfurt to change for Passau. We would miss our connection so got on an earler train which itself is 110 minutes late. The trains are a shambles. 6 of our party did not manage to get on this and are still in Cologne . Hopefully not stuck.

I have just got back from my walk, half an hour on traffic duty and a shop at the Co-op for two oranges and six onions.... The last of the big spenders!

Using an 'odour bomb' in my car.
After getting rid of the wet Labrador smell, by replacing the cloth seats with leather, I had an aroma of cigarette smoke. Several deep cleans later with leather cleaner and polish, disinfectant spray and Febreze there was still a faint underlying smell. Talking with one of my weekend visitors a 'car bomb' was recommended, I thought that a little extreme but further investigation revealed it was an 'odour bomb' :biggrin2:
It's a small aerosol can which you place in the car, press the release button and shut the doors for at least two hours. Apparently it gets into all the nooks and crannies and deodorises it all. It's had 6 hours and I've just opened all the doors for 30 minutes, as per the instructions. Hopefully it'll do the job.
I'm still chuckling at using a car bomb on it.

More joys of motoring..... I've never heard of an 'odour bomb' and doubt if I will ever use one. I begin to realise I have another advantage over most other people, I have a very degraded sense of smell.
I went for a furtle and there is even one designed specifically for use against the smell of fire damage.
I shall be in the shed for an hour as usual and later will have a walk as we are promised an even warmer day.

Another small step forwards but completed in half an hour and accurately. I marked drilled and tapped the valve chest for the valve rod gland, fitted the studs and installed the gland. Then I harvested the non ferocious chips off the lathe. Next job was to go and find my breakfast.

Morning
It's the main railway. ICE...International city Express. Its nothing the holiday organisers can do. It's the pride of Germany apparently that is running on a shoe string and making à big well known mess of it.

All good now. We arrived at the boat 45 minutes late but it is fabulous here. Got to shower will write later

I have improved the shining hour by doing the heavy end of my veggie shopping sat the Co-op and at 10:00 I have my chicken in the oven with it's accompanying peppers and onions and spiced gravy. I think I can pause now, take a deep breath and relax....

I was surprised at how many there were, I've had the windows open this morning to let it air a bit more. The smell of the 'bomb' is not so overpowering now. We'll see how it goes.

I am happy to report that my chicken is roasted and dealt with. The roasting tin has been cleaned and everything is put away. Definitely worth doing today and the kitchen has stayed remarkably cool. Lots to be said for old thick stone walls!

Our choice. We wanted to go by rail. The holiday is by Great Rail Holidays so we thought WHY FLY. The boat is the Amadeus fleet only built in 2020 to 21. And very nice it is too. Bad railways is not their fault

Yesterday we had a guided walking tour of Cologne before catching the dreadful train. We were quite late to the boat but they extended afternoon tea so we could all still have it. In the evening there was a general talk plus cocktails and a very nice evening meal wines included. We did not bother with the evening entertainment but went back to our cabin to read and an early night

This morning was a walking tour of Passau also very good and well organised. There was a little normal damp in the air. We set sail just before lunch and it's been very pleasant uand sunny until a thunderstorm 10 minutes ago.

It's all very comfortable and relaxing . The railway journey already forgotten

This morning I shall be in the shed early doors doing useful things. Not sure about later, I might be cooking veggies or then again that might be tomorrow. I shall decide later. If it's the latter I shall be going for a walk and a spell of traffic duty...
Later.... after preparing my meals for the day, I can say that veggie cooking will be tomorrow (a bonus as it will be a cooler day!), so this morning I will be taking a walk and shopping in Town Square at Gulam's for the veggies that I didn't get at the Co-op yesterday.

Morning

Its a day trip out today to either Salzburg or the Austrian Lakes. We are doing the latter as we have been to Salzburg. Its an early start as the coach leaves at 8.00. I think its due to be warmer and drier today. Yesterday afternoon we had a heavy thunderstorm which included hail, wind lightening and thunder. Have a good day all

That sounds like a nice trip Sue, I hope the weather is kind to you....

This morning I spent 45 minutes on doing the initial clean up of the remaining non-ferocious castings, stripping the castings back to individual parts, refining those castings ready for painting, especially the engine bed and generally preparing the ground for the next move forwards... Now I want my breakfast.
