I have something similar Gloria, from the time when I was trying to fix up some ancient harness that I bought at Clitheroe Auction. Its simpler, but I have no idea how it worked!

Sorry Ian no, but you are right in that what's happening is controlled blasting protected by heavy chain mail mats. Question is where..... ?

To prevent flying debris Peter so I suppose the answer to your question is yes.
Gloria has got the place right, Manhattan Island, New York. About 200 yards from Trump Tower actually. Easy to get the pics because they make provision for what they call 'sidewalk superintendents'.
