Ruby is with us, collected Sally and her from Skipton this afternoon. Her mum sees her on the train in Birmingham and Sally meets her at Leeds. Isla comes tomorrow and then on Tuesday, Sally is taking them to Liverpool for a few days. I think for the girls it will be a shopping expedition. A bit later this month or in August we may take Finlay, will be different for him, Titanic museum, Western Approaches underground control centre which organised all the Atlantic convoys and escorts and the German Submarine after a trip on the ferry cross the Mersey.

My mother used to take me to Liverpool during the war. Train out there a ride on the overhead docks railway and a trip over to Wallasey from the Pier Head if we were lucky! In those days there were two ferries running, the Royal Daffodil and the Royal Iris. The thing I could never understand is how we could get lunch in a big department store off ration! I remember having a salad there with gulls eggs.

Good morning! I've retired now; mother died so I've had to deal with her estate (not an easy job) and I've moved back to Thetford. We did consider moving northwards but Steve has breathing difficulties now and hill climbing is not on our agenda. Mostly everything is sorted and running fairly smoothly so I feel able to spend a little time here.

Good morning Julie, it's good to see you on OG again - but you're late, the frogs spawned many months ago! :extrawink:
I sympathise with Steve. I too have have breathing difficulties and can't easily walk far or up hills. It started back in 2010 and I've had various tests and discussions with the medics but no diagnosis, let alone a cure. From my symptoms I believe it must be a neuromuscular problem, particularly in my legs.

Thank you all for the welcome backs! It is heartening.

I'm in Yorkshire at the moment, looking after my daughter's cats. She is stranded in Canada, her journey home affected by the Air Canada strike action. Having been forwarded all the notifications to turn up, don't turn up, no sorry turn up now, oh heck don't turn up, from Air Canada it is no wonder that they're experiencing a strike. An old friend of mine once said "it's a damn strange way to run a chip shop, this!"

Julie, so sorry to hear about your daughter.... I can see the need for strikes, sometimes withdrawal of labour is the right thing to do but it can have serious Knock-on effects.... What a good job she has you!

Stanley, I can assure you that I'm as lucky to have her as she is me! I have an irritating pop-up occurring this morning on my computer which I will ask her to repair as recompense for extra time with kitties. I'm sure there is a sensible thing to do, and I'm also sure I haven't done it nor got the courage to without an advisory service at my shoulder. Funny, I can do all sorts of other stuff on the computer.

I have blind spots like that Julie, I never have any compunction about shouting for help.
Speaking of which, has anyone had any news lately about how Stephen is?

May I add my 'welcome back' to the others. You've certainly hit the ground running - and and given the site a welcome injection of fresh content.
I can't imagine how you have kept away for so long.
I'd noticed you having an occasional look round, and I've seen Pluggy doing the same thing.

David. Please can I strongly reinforce your remarks about Julie. She's a great addition to the site!
I fear we might eventually get an unwelcome answer about Stephen....
