IRONFOUNDERS IN SKIPTON
In 1889 Ellison and Fawcett were ironfounders at Providence ironworks, Skipton on Cross Street, off Cavendish Street in the south corner of the gas works site. [SD989517]. By 1906, the Craven Almanac advertised the works as belonging to John Varley. In the same almanac for 1906 there is an item: [p.191, item 27, August 1906.] ‘A man named Stephen Lofthouse instantaneously killed by the bursting of an emery wheel at Messrs. Varley and company’s works at Keighley. It seems that Varley was in business in Keighley and took over the Providence Ironworks at some time between 1889 and 1906.
