Sorry to both of you, Gloria I didn't know what a Mordax Stud was so I looked it up. I see they are made in Nelson and I now know what they are!

Sorry about that Gloria, I posted the answer but it got lost somewhere. The hexagonal brass object was a grease or oil nipple. Commonly known as a hook on. Very common before the arrival of the almost universal Tecalemit nipple we are used to today.
