Morning

And we have run out of time for all the things we want to see. Yesterday we did the fashion museum which was much more interesting than expected, with a local historian answering questions and roll playing the daily personal life of a woman in the 1700s. We then visited a 9 th century restored and working flour mill. In the afternoon we went to Sherborne and visited the abbey there

I think we will be back sometime, the cottage is lovely and comfortable as well as peaceful and well placed for trips out. We have literally walked miles this week and spent every moment of every day outside. Off to Bristol to meet one of Bobs school friends and his wife for lunch. Have a good day all

I shall be in the shed as usual first thing chopping the meat out of my third crankshaft blank which is sat there in the mill waiting for a start. I shall take a view later about a walk..... we are promised a cool overcast day but dry. It might be better than the forecast suggests.

I shall be in the shed early doors chopping out the meat from the fourth crankshaft blank. After that I'm not sure, I got my milk yesterday and we are promised a dry but chilly day. I shall wait and see what we actually get!

This morning I gulleted the last crankshaft blank, cleaned up my chips and put the everyday cutter back in the mill. I am ready now to get set up for eccentric turning but that's for tomorrow. Right now the target is breakfast.

Morning

We had an ok drive home arriving about 1.30 pm. We unpacked the car and bags and then I did our holiday washing. It was all dry before there were any signs of rain. Bob and I also did a quick clean through of the house with Bob hoovering and me dusting and doing the wet cleaning. Its due to be an ok day after a night of heavy raining so Bob will be off to the park after he has done his Sunday clean on the kitchen. I will do a thorough clean of the bathroom after my usual Sunday relaxing soak in the bath, then it will be washing of the floors and doing the ironing so we will be all straight for another week.

This afternoon the teenage daughter of my french conversation teacher ( at Haslingden) is coming over as I have said I will teach her how to use a sewing machine. She has inherited one from her grandmother and is keen to learn so I offered to give her a few one to one lessons. What we do exactly depends on what she wants to make in the end. I suggested Sunday afternoon as Bob is normally out. Later we need to empty my car of the bits and pieces I always carry with me, as I get my new one tomorrow afternoon. Have a good day all

This morning I shall be in the shed early doors getting set up for the most interesting part of making crankshafts.... eccentric turning the crank pin.....
Looks as though it could be a dry sunny day so decisions about a walk will be later.....

I've been in the shed for over an hour and a half this morning...... First thing I did was take the Taylor 3 jaw chuck off and replace it with the small 4 jaw independent. Then I set the first blank up for making the crank pin by eccentric turning. That wasn't a quick job but I got it dialled in after about half an hour. Then I tried to find an HSS parting tool for cutting the pin. I thought I had found the solution but it was horrible cutting and after a fruitless search through all my parting tools to find something better I decided to give up. At least I tried. I shall go back to cutting with my usual parting tool with the indexed carbide tip. Now I am after breakfast!

This morning I had a fresh start with my cutter. I abandoned the HSS parting tool and installed my indexed carbide tipped parting tool with 1.75" stick out. I set to with 10 thou cuts and after about half an hour of very careful turning I had a 3/8" crank pin. Anyone who has done this sort of turning knows how horrible it is with the heavy workpiece being so badly out of balance. My image shows what I finished up with.... one pin done and the next blank is set up in the lathe and ready for tomorrow's cutting... But at the moment breakfast is on my mind.

Morning

Well at last the headache has gone but I did not sleep well, about 4 hours in total. On the plus side, I, we, are happy with the car and how it drives. Bob drove it back from the garage then we spent some time sat on the drive familiarising ourselves with the controls. Liam, the salesman, had done an excellent job going through everything though it did not help my headache. Being all electric and totally computerised there was quite a bit to take in. Its a bit aggressive on acceleration when reversing so we will both need to get used to controlling that both with our foot pedal control and the right computer setting

Today we have money to take the bank, we both have annual eye tests and I have to call at the hospital to get a blood test done in preparation for seeing the consultant next week about my cholesterol levels after 6 months of my new medication regime. We may walk or we may drive down for the practice.

My sewing lesson with Lucy went well and she is a keen learner. Her Mum, my french teacher, brought her sewing machine to the class yesterday so I could bring it home. Its old and not been used in years but is a really good make, a Husquvarna. Bob and I will clean it up and check it works ok then she can use it here for her lessons till she feels happy to use it by herself. I think we may look at it this afternoon as before anything else Bob needs to check the electrics. This evening I have Pilates and yoga at the studio so that will be more driving practice in the car, returning in the dark. All should be ok after that. A dry cloudy day is forecast, about 17 degrees. Have a good one

I'm glad your headache is better Sue, nagging pain like that isn't a good companion at any time but particularly when you are learning tu use your new car.... Lucy is very lucky to have you and Bob looking after her. Does that make you liable in any way?
We had a light shower of rain an hour ago..... not on the hymn sheet! The Met office is talking about wind later in the week, I think the weather is a bit unsettled!
Any way, have a good day and I hope all goes well....

I don’t think so. I am not getting paid, but acting as a friend and that has been clearly stated from the beginning. My advice is also to get the machine serviced professionally, all we will do is routine domestic checks and clean it up. She is learning on my machine at the moment

I have just been for a walk and an impulse buy at the Co-op. I got a sudden craving and decided my day wouldn't be complete without smoked bacon, tomatoes and fried eggs for brekkers! :biggrin2:
(And then I had a funny turn and shaved my head. I feel a lot cleaner now!)

I've been over in Padiham building a gazebo for my grandson, whilst there my son bought me a bacon butty. It went down very well with a mug of tea.

They do go well together don't they.....
David, I think Sue should read that web page, she does more sewing than the rest of us put together! She posts on this topic every morning so there's a good chance she'll pick up on it.
I shall be in the shed cutting my second crank pin. Not a lot of chance of a walk later today as I shall be watching the rainy world for the courier who is bringing my castings......
