Today I shall be Mainly...
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
We were early for the Drs and it seems many were as the carpark was overflowing and the queue stretched out of the surgery and out towards the shops. It was pouring with rain and very windy. Things started moving quickly about 10.00 so we were on our way to Claires by 10.30. It was less windy and even sunny, which is how it remained until we got home about 4.00pm. It was still raining here with no sun appearing till after 5.00. We had a hearty lunch at the purpose built St Catherines Hospice cafe, only a short walk from Claires. It only cost £39 for the two of us . We both had home made steak and ale pie with herb roast potatoes and a mix of fresh green veg, followed by a very nice dessert. Mine was a blackcurrant cheese cake. We had a pot of tea for two.
Its still very windy this morning with a touch of rain. I shall iron and then sew. I am not sure if Bob will go to the park or not. Have a good day all

Morning Sue, my jabs are both set for next Friday morning, one at Well and the other at Everest Pharmacy, on opposite sides of the toad so not really a problem! I hope Bob has a day off from the park, he deserves it!

Shopping today! We need a decent Sunday Dinner and a little comfort food. Buster is low on Bonios so the pet food aisle is also a necessary. There's no rain at the moment so maybe a visit to the garden centre as well.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Real progress this morning. I have finished one leg of the first of the four shafts, it is turned to size and ready for fitting. I reversed the blank in the chuck, set it up for turning tomorrow and cleaned up my chips so I have a clean start. Now for breakfast!

Morning
Yesterday turned out a nice day, and not as windy as expected. Bob went to the park, it was quiet down there but it was still nearly 5 when he got home. They only took £50plus but he says there was a lot of chatting and tea drinking went on. Some of the newer younger members were riding their own trains and generally enjoying themselves. I ironed, sewed and did a two hour online French workshop on the subjunctive. I had missed it last week so Carole had sent me a link to the recording. It was very good indeed. I also put away my summer clothes and got out my warmer clothes from the suitcases in the loft.
This morning is calm and damp. Its due to be a dry day, and about 15 degrees maximum. I see the M62 at Milnrow is shut so it could be busy in Rochdale so I shall go to Haslingden for french via Bacup rather than into Rochdale and over Owd Betts. Have a good day all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had an enjoyable day yesterday with a coffee time visit from my cousin who lives in Harrogate, then a refreshing walk with Sally in the afternoon. We met in the co-op car park and walked along to Greenberfield Locks where we had a hot chocolate at the Lock Stop cafe. Craig came up for his tea and to watch F1 highlights.
A lot of discussion about the format of Col's funeral, he wasn't a service at the Crematorium type of person. I'm forming a plan.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
It looks like milder weather today, less wind and almost no rain, I think I will be tidying the garden somewhat. We have a large sycamore tree at the bottom of the garden, so there will be a lot of sycamore seeds to clear. The proper name for the seeds is "Samara" but I know them as keys.

I've had a good day.... I had several goals and have achieved all of them. Veggies cooked, brown bin emptied so that I had room for swarf and my parcel delivered by the courier. Now I can do sod all for the rest of the day!

That sounds like a good day , Wendy. You need that normality . Its good you have people so close that you can share some time over a walk and a coffee. There are a lot of options out there now for funerals. I am sure you will find the right one for Col, for both of you

I might just have a lazy day later.... The forecast is for a cool wet overcast day, not very exciting!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I am cutting the other leg of the first crankshaft. I've spent an hour fighting hot swarf and made things worse for myself by trying to be clever and taking heavier cuts. That broke the tip of the insert and all sorts of mayhem. I have got things tidied up now and will finish turning this tomorrow. Right now I'm working on my breakfast!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
I read your forecast and it doesn’t match mine which is cloudy 16 degrees, a low chance of rain during the day increasing to 20 at about 4 .00pm according to the weather pattern graph, with only 1.0 mm total for the day, The written bit tells me it will feel much cooler because of the wind , yet there is not a breath of wind at the moment. Actually Bob and I have different weather apps on our tablets and they often do not agree.
This morning I have an appointment then I will be making the pattern for the lining of my jacket. This afternoon , actually 4.30 pm I have a hospital appointment re my new regime of statins. This late time means I will be late for evening pilates but should manage yoga which is not till 6.15 pm. Normally I walk to the hospital but today I will drive so I can drive straight to the class afterwards. Thats my day, have a good one. I hope , Wendy, that you are funeral plans are coming together as you wish

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had a good chat with the funeral director yesterday and we have a plan but no date as yet. Apparently there is a new system which began in September where all deaths have to be certified by a Medical Examiner or a Coroner before the certificate goes to the Registrar. The Registrar will then contact me to make an appointment to go in.
I have spoken to Col's only sister who lives on Orkney, with Craig and with Col's close friends and they agree with me that a service at the Crematorium wouldn't be what Colin wished for. I have arranged for an unattended cremation at Skipton, but the hearse will bring Col here first and anyone who wishes to say goodbye here can raise a glass and see him on his way. There were two things Col wanted, to die at home and to leave here in a coffin, so I hope we will fulfil both!
David Hartley the funeral director tells me that he treats the direct cremations in the same way he would if the family were there.

That's what I arranged for myself Wendy. All my daughters will have to do is arrange a memorial steaming at Bancroft at a date that suits the family....
(Susan and I agree that the day she took me to Skipton to arrange the direct cremation and pay for it was one of the most enjoyable things we did. I'd recommend it to anyone..... )

So glad you are managing to get things sorted , and it certainly seems to suit the Col I met only a few times. More bureaucracy though for getting a death certificate. Its hard enough at times like this without delaysWendyf wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025, 06:51 I had a good chat with the funeral director yesterday and we have a plan but no date as yet. Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I finished the first of the four crankshafts. Here it is with the remaining three blanks to show just how much had to be cut out. It seems (and is!) wasteful but is the only way to get a one piece shaft in the absence of forgings. Then I cleaned the chips off the floor and the lathe so I am ready for a clean start on shaft number 2 tomorrow morning. Right now I am chasing my breakfast.

Morning
Thats good Wendy now you can move on with all sorts of paperwork and stuff.
Yesterday was an ok day, with barely any rain until 7.00 pm and even that was light and soon over. We are now heading for 10 days of dry weather with even a little sun appearing though today will be cloudy. Temperatures are forecast around 14 degrees.
I took the opportunity of the drier day to deal with my outside geraniums. I decided to cut them all back and repot them. I used the pieces I cut off to set up cuttings for new plqnts. The repotted plqnts are now in the greenhouse for a month then I will bring them in to the conservatory for the winter where hopefully they will flower till Christmas
This morning Bob has to take his car to a garage in Heywood as it has a problem with its exhaust emission control. He needs it fixed quickly but Audi couldn’t do it for over two weeks. He will take the car in and bus back .he is getting up now as he needs to leave here by 7.45am. I have a hair appointment at 10.00 so can’t pick him up. This afternoon I am off to Maxine's for a bit of advice. I have run out of fabric for the lining of my jacket so a bit of creative patching is required and I want to discuss a few options with her. This evening I have zoom pilates, the last session of the week. Have a good day all
