My overall impression the last couple of months is that the process is speeding up. Could I be mistaken?

Thanks Peter, and that follows yesterday's news that Earby's flood prevention money has been stopped.

Those who predicted this food carbon labelling would surely have been described as conspiracy theorists. Anyone who went a stage further and suggested that the carbon maight be rationed, and a linked record kept of how much you had bought - via the new proposed Government ID system would probably face arrest.

However it seems to have happened.

Once again - forget what 'they' say - look at what 'they' do. Think for yourself. What next - phase out cash and link all to the ID card? Makes control and rationing easy. Once again - ask the question "who pays your wages sunshine?" and the Tony Benn question - 'to whom are you accountable? and how do we get rid of you'?

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

I'd heard mention of this label but hadn't got what it was .... Thanks for the heads up David and you are quite right. Some of today's MPs seem to have forgotten who pays their wages.

See THIS ror yet another warning about climate change.....
The UK should be prepared to cope with weather extremes as a result of at least 2C of global warming by 2050, independent climate advisers have said. The country was "not yet adapted" to worsening weather extremes already occurring at current levels of warming, "let alone" what was expected to come, the Climate Change Committee (CCC) wrote in a letter addressed to the government. The committee said they would advise that the UK prepare for climate change beyond the long-term temperature goal set out in the Paris Agreement. The letter came as the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that 2024 had seen a record rise of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 is the gas mainly responsible for human-caused climate change and is released when fossil fuels are burnt, as well as other activities. The CCC's letter came after it had been asked to provide advice on a timeframe for setting adaption scenarios, based on "minimum climate scenarios".

Trump might one day get a Nobel Prize for bullying and climate destruction...
`Trump threatens vulnerable countries before key shipping emissions vote: American officials have threatened supporters of measure to reduce emissions with tariffs and other retaliatory action' Guardian 15 October 2025
Donald Trump’s government is putting intense pressure on vulnerable countries to vote against measures that would force shipping companies to pay for their carbon emissions. US officials have written to countries that support the measure and besieged them with phone calls threatening to impose tariffs, withdraw visa rights and take other retaliatory action. The moves appear to be having some impact and, if successful, could throw more than two decades of tortuously slow progress on decarbonising the shipping industry into reverse....

And this was Reuters on 3 September 2025...
`US tells countries to reject UN ship fuel emissions deal or face tariffs, sources say' Reuters
The United States has told countries to reject a United Nations' marine fuel emissions-cutting deal or face tariffs, visa restrictions and port levies, U.S. and European officials and sources told Reuters. The Trump administration is looking to boost U.S. economic might, including by taking a bigger role in global shipping, and has used tariffs as a weapon to extract better terms from Washington’s trade partners.

I've just had an argument with an AI bot where I referenced 1984 the book and it took it to be 1984 the year. Finally I ended up being quite rude and dismissive and its answer was to say "thank you for taking part!"

I do regularly complete surveys on behalf of "you gov" about all sorts of things and quite often the results of the surveys are mentioned in the news. I'm a few survey results short of my next £50. I qualify for £50 about once a year.

I wasn't aware one could get paid for that Julie! I live and learn..... :biggrin2: :good:

Have a look at THIS BBC report.....
The waters of the north Pacific have had their warmest summer on record, according to BBC analysis of a mysterious marine heatwave that has confounded climate scientists. Sea surface temperatures between July and September were more than 0.25C above the previous high of 2022 - a big increase across an area roughly ten times the size of the Mediterranean. While climate change is known to make marine heatwaves more likely, scientists are struggling to explain why the north Pacific has been so hot for so long. But all this extra heat in the so-called "warm blob" may have the opposite effect in the UK, possibly making a colder start to winter more likely, some researchers believe. "There's definitely something unusual going on in the north Pacific," said Zeke Hausfather, a climate scientist at Berkeley Earth, a research group in the US. Such a jump in temperatures across a region so large is "quite remarkable", he added. The BBC analysed data from the European Copernicus climate service to calculate average temperatures between July and September across a large area of the north Pacific, sometimes known as the "warm blob". The region extends from the east coast of Asia to the west coast of North America, the same area used in previous scientific studies. The figures show that not only has the region been warming quickly over the past couple of decades, but 2025 is markedly higher than recent years too.

I can understand your frustration, Julie. I do a lot research on the Web for my hobbies, especially mineralogy and geology, and the AI result which always appears at the top of the Google results often contains serious errors. Since they started using that AI I also find that the other (non-AI) search results often seem to take their lead from that top AI result. For example if I put a combination of mineral names in the search box in order to find association between them (eg quartz and pyrite) the AI often gives results for only one of the them and then all the other results follow suit. :scratchhead:

The version of AI that Google use in their results is tailored to sound authoritative but if you take it into esoteric areas it soon stumbles.....
