I shall be in the shed getting set up and started on shaft three of four. The rest of the day will be spent keeping warm. Apart from the fact that it is a colder day, I fancy there have been some changes in my constitution perhaps connected with the double jab. More in medical matters.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning was dead simple, I set up in the clean lathe to start turning shaft number three. An hour later after patient 40 thou cuts I got to here. Lots of metal chewed out and I can finish this leg of the shaft tomorrow and get set up for the next leg. Now for breakfast!

Morning
There are no after effects of the Covid vaccination just an aching arm, more so than the flu vaccination 10 days ago. I do however ache considerably after a weekend of cleaning and gardening and three rather strenuous pilates/yoga sessions. Last one of the week this evening thank goodness
My steroid injection in my thumb was postponed until next week.
Today Bob is off to Warwick for the day to help set up an Engineering exhibition that is running this weekend. Sadly I will be at the funeral of the father of one of my pilates friends, Gill. I knew Mike long before I knew Gill as some 30 years ago, and for several years, we used to go to the same french conversation evening class. I am only going to the service and coming straight home. As yet I have no plans for the afternoon apart from putting a chicken casserole in the slow cooker and preparing the veg so we can eat after pilates and when Bob gets back from Warwick.
Its due to be a cool cloudy morning but a little sun this afternoon. Have a good day all.

Shopping today, I rather fancy Cornish Pasties tonight. Also I have to call a company to say that I already have done their identity check, and had it confirmed, so please check their records. It was an absolute hoo-ha doing it at home and then you find out that it can be done at their offices by experienced people. Grrrrr.

Morning Julie.... I hope you have confirmed your identity!
I shall be in the shed finishing the first leg of my third shaft. I am quietly moving forward down the crankshaft production line.....
If I was a really good lad I'd go for a walk later even though it's overcast but let's see closer to the time!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had a broken night's sleep last night and have just realised that the last thing I want to do is spend an hour in the shed. So..... I am going to decline the shed, have an early breakfast and go back to bed..... (Nice being my own boss, I can please myself.)

Morning
Its 8 degrees and dark though clear. I can see all the way across the hills. I don’t think it will last as a cloudy cool day is forecast. I have art this morning and I am expecting Lucy late this afternoon for an hour.
Yesterday was OK. I expected not to see anyone I knew at the funeral but was surprised. I did expect to see my friend Wendy from Norden but others told me she was a in a home temporarily as she had broken her arm. I was shocked as I did not know, I was surprised her daughter had not let me know. I also felt guilty that I had not been in touch. The funeral finished at 12.30 so not a good time to call to see her so I phoned her on her mobile and we had a very long chat with a promise to go and see her after our next trip to France which is in just over a weeks time.
Talking of France we have a viewing apparently sometime over the next fortnight. Fingers crossed. Have a good day all. Thinking of Wendy today for Cols funeral

We are having a farewell to Col party at the house. The hearse will call here on route to Skipton Crematorium, a few words will be said and we will raise a glass to say goodbye. Its as close as I can get to what he wanted.

Morning Sue and Wendy!
That was a bit of a bummer Sue, bad enough to be at a funeral without having bad news about your friend.
Wendy, I shall be thinking about Col today but also of you. I hope you feel a sense of closure this evening when you get to sit down. I know you're not out of the wood yet but today could be a big step towards your next chapters.... Best of luck Love.....

I hope yesterday went well Wendy.....
Today I am in a better seam after a good night's sleep and so will be in the shed early doors finishing off this leg of my current shaft.
Not too sure about the rest of the day apart from the fact that I could usefully shop at the Co-op for the peppers and tomatoes to go with a chicken roast, we are reaching that time of the week yet again!

One image shows where we are at. I have finished turning and polishing the first leg of my third crankshaft, cleaned up all my chips and I am ready now to proceed with the second leg. Now for a well-earned breakfast.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
It did go well Stanley. David Hartley took my simple idea and turned it into something very powerful and moving. He walked the hearse all the way to the house from the road. I had asked for a simple wreath on the coffin but there was a wonderful spray of sunflowers. I managed the short speech I had prepared, David read out the only poem I could find which seemed fitting (Successful Life by Eugene Grinman), I finished off by saying that Col had never stuck around long at a social occasion so it was time to say goodbye and we all raised a glass. The hearse then left as it arrived with David walking it out to the road. Brilliant, but I'm exhausted now!
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
That sounds like a lovely moving send off Wendy, now you can start to rebuild your life with wonderful memories to drive you forwards and from what I can see lots of nearby friends to help you through. First give yourself recovery time, perhaps go away somewhere for a few days to chill out, be looked after...
The highlights of yesterday are that Bob had his expected phone call from the Consultant at Christies confirming the all clear from this round of tests, the next will now be in February/March as he moves on to 6 monthly check ups rather than three months . My news was a successful couple of hours of sewing with Lucy who is now developing some good basic skills as we make a patchwork cushion cover .
Today is going to be another cool autumn day with a very dark start. I had the best nights sleep in days and when I woke just before 7 ,00 am I thought it was much earlier. This morning I plan on a little garden clearing, then its a u3a face to face wine group meeting, followed by an early tea at the Italian restaurant at the Lake. I will have a quiet evening but Bob has the AGM of the Model Engineers, being treasurer he has a report to give. Have a good day all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had 25 people here at the house, with a magnificent buffet provided by a local caterer in Lothersdale. Everyone mucked in to help with setting out the food and organising drinks and parking. It was a mix of relatives, old friends, neighbours from our years in Scotland and our neighbours from here. My sister in law and niece had to be back home in Devon for today but my brother Steve is stopping with me for the weekend, Craig stayed over too. In the evening we joined our friends from Scotland, who were staying over at the Alma Inn, for a very pleasant meal.
Today Steve and I are planning a relaxing walk with a coffee or lunch stop, depending on timing, at the Old Rock Cafe in Trawden.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
What a lovely morning of good reports, all I can do is echo everyone else Wendy and I'm so glad it was dry enough for David's walk to and from the road.
Also of note is Bob's positive report.
I can stop worrying about you all now, sit back with my cup of tea and think about shopping for essentials! Love to all of you.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I shall get my chicken in the oven before going in the shed this morning but after that I shall be pursuing my crankshafts. I thought about Colin yesterday, he laughed at me because I was so grateful when he sorted my email problems out, he said it was nothing. What he really admired was things like me chopping crankshafts out of solid on the lathe.... Different people, different strokes!

This morning I set up and started turning the second leg of the third crankshaft. Slightly less progress than expected because I lost the tip of the carbide, I shall start tomorrow by getting a fresh edge into play. Right now my mind is fixed on breakfast. PS, I have my chicken in the oven roasting.....
