Later, the day is going well! I have roasted my chicken, separated it from its gravy and used that to make stuffing. The chicken is safely in the fridge.
I got my credit card statement and as expected it was a big one because there is a set of castings on it. I've made out the cheque and posted it this morning so I can forget that.
As I was out I called in at the Co-op because I had a bit of a puzzle at home in that I have three peppers surplus to my chicken this morning, They were already on their sell by date so I got some sausages and I am grilling them with the peppers. I don't usually cook them like that so that will be a change. That is going on slowly and I am sat down having a score on YouTube. All is well!

This morning I finished taking the meat out of this leg. First I fitted a new tip then a series of 40 thou cuts until I was in striking distance of finishing cuts. However the work was now too hot for accurate measurement so I spent the remainder of my time leaning chips up from Mrs Harrison and the floor. Tomorrow I shall change over to HSS and finish this leg. But at the moment I am after breakfast.

Morning

Despite the forecast its a lovely morning here in Coventry with the rain is now forecast for this afternoon. We are up and breakfasted and Bob has left for Warwick. I am staying in the hotel till 10 and will then walk up to Julias. Eve and Ed have gone out for a 5 mile run, Julia is an official at a swimming gala in Leamington Spa , B will still be in bed.

Todays plans are that Eve and I are going into Coventry, we make walk there but will certainly walk the two miles back, which is mainly on the flat and through the lovely Memorial Park. We will probably have lunch but the target is to get Bs birthday present. I will also be giving B another sewing lesson like yesterday as she is learning to use a sewing machine as her skill in the D of E bronze award. The school runs the award scheme doing one a year from the age of 14. Eve is doing her gold award. I want to make sure B can do the basics this weekend and have suggested a few simple things she can do to develop her skills. Yesterday we went into Coventry and bought a few basics and a scrapbook so she can record her progress. Today I need to show her how to change a needle. Then she is all set up. She can thread the machine, wind the bobbin, knows what all the knobs , switches, and dials do and can do straight and curved seams. The latter needs practice.

Bob will be back about 6 then we will eat at Julias before driving home this evening. Have a good day all.

Dead simple. Hone the HSS cutter and dress the second leg of the third shaft down to the finished sizes of Half an inch for the journal and .375" for the shaft. Tomorrow I am ready to start turning the fourth and last shaft but at the moment I am after my breakfast.

As long as you got home without any trouble Sue. There's quite a lot of rain in the forecast for the next few days, we have evidently lost the blocking high and will have to live with low pressure for a while. I don't know about anyone else but I prefer this more mixed weather to the day after day of grey overcast.....

Before I started on the last shaft I addressed something that has been nagging me for a while. Most of the indexable tools I use are from Banggood and they don't last long when set too on serious muck shifting. So I went into my indexable store and got out two tools I used to use with my large lathe 30 years ago. They are commercial grade and I have plenty of tips for them. I swapped one for the boring bar in my tool holders and fitted the larger one in the original tool post that comes as standard with the lathe. I set up the last blank and started the succession of 40 thou cuts that will get me there with no dramas. My picture is of where I knocked off after an hour of good work. Now for breakfast!

Morning

Another wet day forecast, but looking at Hollingworth Lake and the local reservoir it is still badly needed. Today we may go to the bank or it may be tomorrow but we will have to go by car as we will have a lot to carry back. We are collecting and buying a few things from M and S for our friend Joanne in France , so we can take it over next week. Did I say we are having a viewing of the house imminently

Otherwise a bit of sewing and perhaps a bit of gardening if the rain is not too heavy. This afternoon i have the steroid injection in my thumb that was cancelled last week, so no Pilates and yoga. I may even do a little cleaning. Have a good day all

You mentioned the viewing Sue, good luck with it! Yes, it's a bit wet and gloomy. I am sat down now with a pot of tea. I'm back from the Co-op where I have shopped for £27 in veggies and there will be no waste. :good:

Cleaning up leaves from the rather large sycamore in the back garden and wondering how many more leaves can fall into our garden. I have to keep the area clear because the leaves and Buster's poo are almost the same colour and the end of the garden is his preferred toilet.

Another advantage of these commercial cutters is that the triangular indexable cutter has 6 cutting aspects so I treated myself this morning to a new one and then set to to get more metal out of this leg. I got it down to within striking distance of the half inch journal I am chasing, finish turned the web of the shaft and then took a light cut across the edges of the webs. The work is too hot for accurate measurement so I knocked off there and will finish turn this leg tomorrow. Right now I am after my breakfast.

Morning

Its thick fog out there this morning but should clear to a dryish day after a bit of rain this morning.

We didn't get our trip into Rochdale yesterday but will do it this morning. On the way back we will collect the outdoor plants of our friend Kath as they spend the next few months in our conservatory. One is the most beautiful bright pink geranium which brings a touch of summer into our conservatory for a few more months. When we come back from France I will take some cuttings from it. This afternoon I have sewing with Maxine, but no Pilates following my thumb injection yesterday. Have a good day all

My forecast was accurate. I have finished cooking a fridge full of pans of veggies. The tools are cleaned and put away and I have just cleaned the hob after letting it cool down. As quite often happens I nibbled instead of having a proper dinner but my tea is set out and ready for warming up. A good morning's work!

This morning I did the final turning to size and initial polishing of the first leg of the fourth shaft. Once that was done I turned my attention to a mare accurate setting of the big indexed cutter, it's cutting slightly above centre and to cure it I have to take some off the bottom face of the toolholder and it's hardened.... I worried at it with the grinding wheel and a very sharp file and got it to a far better place. I will see a difference when I chop out the metal for the final leg of these four shafts. Now I want my breakfast after an hour and a half in the shed.

Morning Sue! Lucy is such a lucky girl..... I hope your day goes well. Our rain has stopped as promised but no signs of the sun yet. Looking on the bright side, the overcast is not gloomy and the glass has started to rise slowly..... We shall have to be content with that for the moment.....
