Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I had to look up a coin I found in one of our collection tubs, It went through our coin counter as a 50p as it is exactly the same size but without corners so to speak. It's a 50 Forint which I have never come across before, turns out it's Hungarian and worth about £0.12 pounds sterling. No good to man nor beast unless you are in Hungary or have a wheelbarrow full.
I will add it to my foreign currency shrapnel collection.

The hedgehog is eating, but has lungworm so is being treated for it. Fingers crossed it has a full recovery.

A wise woman. Nobody can fight age without paying a huge price.
See THIS BBC report on flu situation in our neck of the woods.
North West NHS bosses have issued a winter flu warning as cases and hospital admissions rise in the lead up to Christmas. They said the region was facing an unprecedented wave with the latest data showing an average of 295 people were in hospital last week with flu - more than double the number during the same week last year. The warning comes just days after the Royal Blackburn Hospital apologised for long queues at its emergency department. An East Lancashire Hospitals Trust spokesperson said it was inundated with very poorly patients. The trust said there were more appropriate services available for many patients, including pharmacies, GPs, Burnley General Teaching Hospital's urgent treatment centre, and the minor injuries unit at Accrington Acorn Centre, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Over the last few days there has been an improvement in the availability of my favourite coffee, Machu Pichu. There has also been a significant price rise. Not content with reducing the package size to 200 grammes the price has gone up as well and we are now on £6.85 per pack. I must have my morning coffee so have bitten the bullet....

We visited friends while at Thoresby Hall, they use Lidl's equivalent of Lavazza Caffe Rosso and I found it to be very good. Had a good look in Colne Lidl yesterday but sadly they had none...

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I dont know about lifestyle but avoiding bright sunlight for prolonged periods of time and not smoking can certainly keep the young keeping bits of face and body at bay . I am less sure about smothering with assorted creams as at least two women I knew died early 60s from liver cancer and thus neved really long enough to get wrinkles. ( am I implying some creams cause liver cancer - i dont know I would like to see it researched but often it is a virus - both didnt drink but did go on overseas med and more south holidays was there something in the air or water ?Big Kev wrote: ↑06 Dec 2025, 18:07 At age 69, Linda Hamilton says she doesn't "spend a moment trying to look younger on any level, ever."

I think the bottom line with the coffee is that various factors have combined and there is nothing we can do about it, just bite the bullet and brew another pot!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I've just brewed my morning pint of Machu Pichu and it's superb!
A random thought hit me. I'm 90 years old on St Valentine's day and I have just taken delivery of 1000 blue vinyl gloves for preserving my hands in the workshop. I always buy for stock, my food cupboards and toilet roll supply bear witness to this. Question is, how close to death do you have to get before you stop buying for stock? It's a bit like weaving out. As I went about my routine tasks I used to think about how many more times I would do it if at all in the case of some of the longer interval jobs....
The difference is of course that in the case of weaving out I had a date and some certainty. I have no such certainty when it comes to death so I simply carry on as though I am going to live for ever. Sorry if this sounds morbid, it isn't actually, it's an interesting management problem!
1,000 gloves translates to over a year's supply. (There was a discount if you bought 1,000....) So will I ever need to order them again?

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
My prescription medication, passed to Royal Mail on the 2nd of November on a 48 hour tracked Parcelforce service. I have had an email every day to say it will be delivered and then another each day to say that it wont! It does not require a signature and fits through the letter box. I will have to get to the parcel office before it shuts at 10am tomorrow, they only open 8am to 10am each day. Never had a problem before. I always order my repeats in good time its normally one day for the repeat to be authorised and two days max to be delivered.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Went to the sorting office with my tracking number issued a week last Tuesday. "Sorry we don't do Parcel Force", but he shoved the tracking number into his computer which confirmed it would definitely be delivered today. I told him I had another six emails to that same effect delivered once a day since last week! He said it would probably be buried in the van. Which I think is the problem, if its at the bottom of the pile it will get missed when the driver runs out of time. I asked if they had any other post for our address so he went to look, came back with sundry post and the 48hour tracked item that I was chasing. So I finally have my prescription meds 8 days after they were sent on a 48 hour delivery! Bloke in front of me from Earby chasing his mail said he only got post once every 10 days or so.PanBiker wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025, 15:24 My prescription medication, passed to Royal Mail on the 2nd of November on a 48 hour tracked Parcelforce service. Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I doubt Death will be the main problem , more an incapability beforehand - indeed how many visiting health care professionals actually understand the complexity of a single person living on their own , especially when hiterto they have been alert and capable of doing everyday tasks plus. getting someone in to do shopping laundry and a bit of cleaning is one thing - but mum used to clean for her mum before the home help came in really as most could not be trusted. Never mind assistence with making banking payments etc.
Mum so far has outlasted the flat she was in ( drainage problems in common parts with a lack of capable tradespersons to fix ) and as long as I keep her supplied with Tea and Breakfast she is doing as well for someone approaching 100 if she makes another 11 months - I am more likely to come to an end with the general state of road traffic and going out and getting stress or illness. As long as the basic cell functions keep working it seems the human body can acctually do the 100 years plus. I always said my grandfather died from lead poisoning ( he was shot by the Germans in WW1 )
