A wonderful effort.

The wonderful interview with two of the mothers from the Hillsborough Group on R4 at dinnertime. Restrained, dignified and incredibly well-informed. They are well aware of the fundamental effects further enquiry will effect and have this firmly in mind.
News that ISAF are to scale back interaction with Afghan security forces. Difficult to see how this squares with 'fulfilling the mission'. Meanwhile Hammond says there will be no change in the timetable. These announcements don't square with each other. The Taliban attack on the air base, far from being low key resulted in the destruction of 6 US Harrier jets, £60million(?) up the spout?

Quite a boring picture but this is the cat that occasionally lodges in the drawer under the bench. Jack was in the yard at the time and this cat knows he is no danger. Call me an old softy but this pleases me.

The death of the two police women in such a sleepy little suburb as Mottram. From the evidence of witnesses he seems to have used a grenade as well. Can't get my head round it!
The conflicting statements about events in Afghanistan. Paul Flynn was right, there is no evidence that there is a coherent strategy, simply reaction to events and a desperate clinging to the ludicrous assertion that the Afghan government are being brought to a state where they can resist any concerted move by the extreme elements to take over as soon as the troops have left. It seems obvious to me they are lying low until we leave, then they come out of the woodwork and depose the government which is incompetent, corrupt and universally hated. The sensible thing to do is to pull the plug and scuttle but of course that will be seen as defeat. Time to face reality and stop wasting fine young lives.

The donation bar is on the second page in ( Forum ), rather than Portal ( which loads very strangely on the Library computers ). I'm still waiting to be invited to be an advertiser - moderated of course - so I can be a different blue colour to everyone else

Yup! And then I thought it might be one of the floaters in my eyes.
The way the investigation is panning out in Manchester. I looked up OSMAN notices on Wiki and came up with "Osman warning, letter or notice. These are warnings of death threat or high risk of murder that are issued by British police or legal authorities to the expected victim. They are used when there is intelligence of the threat, but there is not enough evidence to justify the police arresting the expected murderer. The warnings are named after a high-profile case, Osman v United Kingdom. Street gangs with grenades? Manchester leads the rest of the country yet again.

We were driving home from the book exchange when I saw an amazing sight. Two crows flew across the road at a low height in front of our car. They were coming from the passenger side, where there was a McDonalds outlet in the car park of a shopping centre. My first focus was the crow trailing second. Hubby and I both exclaimed at the same time "oh look. He has a big chip hanging out his mouth!" . Thought that was amusing enough but then we spotted the lead crow, carrying an entire McDonalds meal bag, obviously heavy with contents....flew low over four lanes of traffic to enjoy dinner in the park on the other side.
Hope the got that from a bin somewhere and are not flying off with people's lunch.

Must be a day for creatures with strange objects in their mouths.
On the park at 6.30am and its just getting light. Ducks were busily feeding on worms and beech nuts and paid little attention to Misty. Normally she either ignores them or with a large group like this just runs in the middle for them to scatter...... which is what she did this morning. One mallard was a little late in taking off and Misty jumped in the air and caught it!! Not sure who was most surprised lurcher or duck but it must have been the dog as when she landed she opened her mouth and the duck flew off....pride but not body injured. Nolic

The first time my old Jack Russell Eigg ever nailed a rat she did the same thing, grabbed it and then sat back working out what to do next. The rat left the scene of course and Eigg learned the lesson, next time she took one she killed it before sitting back to think. I think I've made that mistake myself once or twice in my life, it's called the learning curve. Problem is that Misty might decide to try it again!

She might but I think its the thrill of the chase/catch as she has had young rabbits and brought them to us unharmed. She does have the killer moves as she frequently shows when shaking soft toys around with such ferocity.
Strangely enough a friend of ours has a lurcher and she did exactly the same thing some half an hour later - caught a mallard and then let it go. Nolic

I hope so. I had a Manchester terrier once that took a liking to killing hens and ducks. Only cure was a bullet, he caused me a lot of grief!
What grabbed me was the Pakistani government minister offering a reward for anyone who killed the maker of the video and invited al-Qaeda and the Taliban to join in....

I can't actually read that...is anyone else having problems?

Attention attracted by police sirens and helicopter circling our suburb for the third time in a fortnight. Haven't heard any explanation for it. I was just about to pop out for an afternoon walk when today's episode began, but thought better of it.

An amateur group of Islamic film makers have posted a video on YouTube which mocks Christianity and Jesus Christ.

It is believed to be so offensive that St Peter's church in Shrewsbury have postponed their tea and cake morning until next Wednesday, and Dorothy Green from Margate has written in to Points of view.

When will the madness end?
