Never seen anything like it Cathy! Could it be for tenderising steaks?

I agree with Stanley that it's a meat tenderiser.

I found images of some other meat tenderizers, of the same design. Some metal and some wood, some had a mixture of both.
This particular one was described as an Antique/ Primitive Meat Tenderizer.
So Yes it is a Meat Tenderizer. (Doesn’t bear thinking about the bacteria on that wood, back in those days.)

Stick one on a vertical surface and hang your kitchen towel on it by pushing the corner of the towel into the hole. We've been using them for several decades!

Here's a mystery object. What are they and what is their significance (ignore the kitchen tray!).

Well that lasted no more than 30 minutes! An advent calendar, as the man says. My sister-in-law sent it to me. Her partner is ex-RAF. They (the planes) were rather squashed into the calendar spaces and today I spent some time dipping them into very hot water, bending them into correct shape and then dipping them in cold water. I'm thinking of flying them to Mar-a-Lago, snatching Trump and dropping him into the Caribbean Sea. :laugh5:
