Had to scrape ice off the car at 6 this morning, I did cover it up last night but the windscreen iced up as soon as I removed the cover. Skipton Old Road was a bit slippery, by the Hare and Hounds, but all OK after that all the way to Chorley.

Kev, so pleased you had a safe trip. It was still raining first thing this morning and when I looked out into the unsalted back street it was turning to black ice as soon as it hit the ground.
I'm glad I went shopping for my milk yesterday! Now I wait to see what Thursday and Friday brings. But from what I have heard the further South you are the worse storm Goretti gets.....

Yesterday stuck to the hymn sheet and on the whole it was bright clear cold and dry. We had clear skies overnight and this morning it was still calm, clear and cold. The glass has risen slightly to 1000mb. The forecast is for a calm, dry overcast day until about 20:00 when the first manifestations of Goretti are forecast to hit us and it starts snowing and the wind starts to rise. Today the wind starts in the SW and is very light. During the day it gradually shifts through south to east and finally ENE and by that time it is gusting to 25mph as the snow starts. Tomorrow the snow persists until mid-morning and then the weather settles down to more like the seasonal norm, Rain on Sunday but then warmer and drier. Looks like a touch of old fashioned winter for the next 36 hours.....

Bright watery sun yesterday, along with another migraine 🫣. Today is cold and damp, no wind.

The latest storm made landfall in Cornwall an hour ago, I just read that trains from Manchester are not running from 6pm today. Met Office reckons it'll get here by about 8 this evening, I think I'll nip to the shop and get some more coffee and milk. Forecast shows 15-30 cm on hills over 200 metres, that'll be me then. I hope Wendy has got her big coat and wellies ready.

A rare red wind warning is issued by the Met Office for south-west England, as Storm Goretti heads towards the UK

I am always ready with my big coat and wellies! My big concern is for my son, who works night shift in Burnley. I will be worrying about him getting home to Colne in the early morning.

Hopefully the major roads will be clear. I've just been to Colne Aldi and the gritters are out, they were putting a heavy spread out

It's still a bit hit or miss at the moment, I don't think they're taking any chances though.

Gloria, that was Susan's attitude but she gave it a go and says it has changed her life.... Back to the weather...
Yesterday afternoon was bright and cold with very little wind. I have to report that up to now there has been no sign of wind rain or snow, it is calm and dry under broken overcast out there. The only ominous sign is the glass, it has dropped to 987mb and is steady. The forecast is for heavy overcast, rain and snow until early afternoon but so far there has been nothing even though we have a yellow warning. The constant northerly winds start moderate and gradually decrease to light as the day goes on. We can expect a high of 3C and a low of -4C with a -4C wind chill all day. Tomorrow will be dry and brighter, Sunday warmer with heavy rain and after that warmer weather but overcast. They're talking about 9C next week!

Same here Gloria, storm Goretti was a non-event in Barlick!
Yesterday afternoon stayed dry, overcast and cold.We have had a quiet night and at the moment we have a breezy morning with a heavy wind chill under an overcast sky, but it's dry. The glass has risen and is up on 1014mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with heavy rain which starts as wintry showers of snow but gradually settles into heavy rain. We have a yellow warning of snow and ice from now until 15:00. Despite all this I have to report that it is still dry, no snow yet! The constant southerly wind is brisk and gusts to almost 40mph later in the day. We can expect a high of 9C today and a low of 7C tonight with a wind chill that will touch -7C at one point. The real story is that the the base temperature starts to rise around noon and the wind chill starts to decrease. The effect of this is that by 22:00 the rain will have stopped and the temperature will be 9C. The outlook for next week is for this warmer weather to continue and it will be brighter and drier as well.

We survived the heatwave and today is just glorious with 24C.
Our eastern states are experiencing many bushfires, some have taken lives.
Our week (SA) will warm up more, but no mentions of really hot weather coming, and no rain either.
Have a good week everyone. Stay warm and protected.

Morning Cathy. We have -4C and very light rain. It just struck me that you'd love to have our ice cold tap water!
(We'd like a bit of your 24C..... )
Later at 07:00. Still nothing more than light rain on a blustery wind....

It's thoroughly wet and nasty out there. Heavy cold rain, a strong blustery wind gusting to 40mph and -3C due to the wind chill. I feel sorry for anyone who needs to be out there....

Yesterday was a wet windy and thoroughly nasty day. It had one saving grace, it started to warm up from early afternoon onwards and by the time it was dark it was above freezing point for the first time in a while. At the moment it's breezy and we have broken overcast that is dry but feels to be on the edge of rain. The glass has fallen and is steady on 990mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day with sunny spells until noon and then we can expect rain for the afternoon. The constant SSW wind is brisk and is gusting to almost 40mph at the moment. We can expect a high of 9C and a low tonight of 6C with a wind chill of -4C for much of the day. The outlook is for mixed weather ranging from heavy overcast and rain to bright sunny spells all week, it will be mild.
