Glad you had a good break Sue, it will set you up for whatever Rochdale winter throws at you. At the moment it isn't bad.
Here the washing is nearly done I shall deal with my pork belly before it finishes.

Later.... The duvet covers are washed and hanging over the bannister rail to dry. The pork belly is bubbling quietly in the slow cooker and I havr just finished putting the clean duvet covers back on my bed.
Now I can enjoy my dinner!

I shall de-fat my pork belly first and then go in the shed as usual early doors to do more work on fitting the con-rod. The only other thing I can think of is that I need to get milk later so that will mean a short walk to the Cathedral Of Choice.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
A nice half hour fitting the con rod to the crank pin brass and then fitting it on the engine. It runs beautifully and I am now ready to move forward. But for now, breakfast!

Morning
It was a very wet drive home but we took our time driving the scenic route, not that we saw much scenery . We stopped a couple of times, a bit of shopping, a bit of browsing antiques and stopped for a drink. We expected to have breakfast at the cafe across the road from our lodge but it no longer does breakfast, we did however find a suitable cafe inAmbleside. We bought some cleaning agents I particularly like in Lakeland in Windermere, a small joint of lamb and some veg from Booths in Kirby Lonsdale and a couple of small items at Watershed Mill in Settle. We were home by three, unpacked by 4 and most of the washing done through out the evening.
I have french at Haslingden this morning, its due to be 9 degrees and drizzle. Have a good day all

Morning Sue! I like the idea of gently shopping your way down the country. I wish I had a pound for every time I drove that road.... it was my way out to Scotland, in the early days via Kendal and Shap, later on to the M6 just before Kendal. I hope you are right about it staying dry.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I shall be in the shed early doors doing useful things to my engine, not sure what yet! (Probably spinning the flywheel and enjoying the smooth motion of the con rod and crosshead..... )
As for the rest of the day.... nothing presses in on me so I shall just spend it looking after myself.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Only one piece of machining this morning, setting up and cutting the slot in the piston assembly for the screwdriver necessary to screw the piston rod firmly into the crosshead. Once I had done that I changed the saw for the 1/32" needed next time the saw is used. Then I prepared the cylinder casting for installing on the target face of the bed and lastly identified the next piece of machining, making and installing the piston rod gland on the front cylinder lid. Now I must find my breakfast!

Morning
Up early and out today. I have an appointment with the Gp at 5 but he asked me to come for 8.30 which means running the gauntlet of rush hour and roadworks. We left early in the car but there were no roadworks or hold ups. We now have half an hour to kill in the car. It was too early to walk as it was dark and I won’t do the rural walk by Turner Brothers at this time.
Bob is out with the engineers for lunch so I think I will try and catch up on my sewing. This suit is taking for ever. Pilates and yoga in the studio this evening . Have a good day all

Good, you can carry on recovering from whatever that infection was now! Be kind to yourself, it makes sense!
I shall be in the shed early doors as usual making quiet progress and keeping my hands busy. There could be a window of fine sunny weather for a walk this morning, we shall see.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning's report from the shed is different and very simple. I started to make the piston rod gland using the casting Stuart's supplied. All was going well until I realised my reduction of the size of the flange to match the lid was almost reaching the PCD I had marked for the retaining studs. I had made a catastrophic mistake. So I went to my treasure chests, found a replacement casting and scrapped the one I had started on.
So I have ditched this morning in the shed. I think I need to have a reset before I bugger another casting up!

Morning
Its a little bit lighter this morning, as it was yesterday evening, with January nearly finished the worst is over. Even my geranium cuttings are beginning to look very healthy in the conservatory and on the bedroom window sills.
This morning we are both at the hairdressers, this afternoon I have a u3a Local History planning meeting when we discuss and plan our visits of the year. I planned three last year, I hope there are a few more willing planners this year. This evening I have zoom pilates. As I have done so little over the last 6 weeks I have found the last two sessions a little tough. I was going for a swim but I don’t have time, perhaps tomorrow morning as my Thursday art does not start until the end of February. Slowly my cough is going and my breathing and stamina is improving, the swimming will help and will get those old joints moving again
I think we are due rain this afternoon. Have a good day all

This morning I managed to make the piston rod gland without the egregious error yesterday that scrapped the casting. Tomorrow I shall fit the studs. Today I shall breathe a sigh of relief and have my breakfast!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
A busy day yesterday, hair cut followed by a history meeting in the afternoon. The latter proved interesting with a few ideas for visits thrown into the mix. I have two to sort out, a trip to Ordsall Hall in April and a trip to the Peoples Museum in Manchester in November.
I have been battling with a stain on the white stripe on Bobs new sweatshirt. On its fourth treatment and wash it finally disappeared. I was showing it to Bob last night when I accidentally knocked a full glass of red wine on the carpet, so from one stain to another. Luckily the wine came off almost completely with a carpet spray designed to remove small stains, though this was a big stain not a small one. Sadly my wine glass was empty as was the red wine box.
This morning I have a couple of formal letters to write, I shall then go for a swim. Lucy is coming this afternoon and we will do buttonholes on the sewing machine and hand sewing techniques used in dress making. She won’t like that!
The forecast is 8 degrees, rain this morning with a drier afternoon. Its a dark morning today. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
You're having 'shed brand' luck with those stains Sue! I hope you have better luck today..... We are promised the gloom and rain also, the difference is that ours is forecast to remain in place for a week with no respite.
I've had my second sleep, shower and clean clothes. Now I shall do very little extremely slowly for the rest of the day.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning was simple and ended up accurate. I marked and drilled the 5BA clearance holes in the piston rod gland and then marked the front lid boss for the studs. Into the pillar drill , drill and tap and then fit the studs. The gland slipped over the studs and into the boss with no adjustment needed. I have marked the gland to orient it correctly if it is taken out. Then I fitted the front lid to the cylinder using the two 5BA CS screws in the blind holes.... That is a good hour's work and another small step forwards. Now for breakfast.
