I believe I may have excluded our Australian contingent, apologies for my fat fingers. I've removed a few IP ranges from the firewall block list. Hopefully access is restored.

I'm shouting for help..... HELP!!!!
Gimp has crashed and won't open any of my images from the hard disk. I can make it work on some other images but not my own.
I don't know what to do, can anyone help?

Uninstall and reinstall is usually a good option.

I have been very brave and used the terminal.... I purged GIMP and reloaded it but it was doing exactly the same thing so I purged it again and will have to have a rethink.....

Have you tried a different application to Gimp, maybe Irfanview or something similar, if you can get it for Linux?

I rebooted the computer, reloaded everything and then reinstalled what I believe is the latest version of Gimp. I haven't tried it, I am leaving it until I get the next Ubuntu update from Canonical in case it is something in the last update that is causing the problem. I shall report when there is something to say.
Just seen your post Ian and yes, thanks, that might be what I have to do.... I shall come back later.....

A quick Google shows

The latest stable GIMP 3.0 series (including updates through 3.0.8) is not "broken" in the sense of being unusable, but it is experiencing significant, typical growing pains, including crashes, performance issues, and broken legacy plugins. While it introduces major new features and stability improvements, many users are reporting bugs and regressions due to the major API overhaul.
Plugin Compatibility: GIMP 3.0 breaks almost all plugins from version 2.10 or earlier due to major API changes.
Stability & Bugs: Frequent crashes, UI glitches (invisible icons), and issues with tools like color-to-alpha have been reported.
Active Fixes: The GIMP team is actively releasing updates (3.0.4, 3.0.6, 3.0.8) that address these bugs, improve stability, and fix security vulnerabilities.
Performance: Some users have reported severe performance issues, although others report improved startup times for large font libraries.
If you rely on older, third-party plugins, it is recommended to stay on GIMP 2.10 for now. Otherwise, ensure you are running the absolute latest 3.0.x version (such as 3.0.8 or newer) to get the most recent bug fixes, say Reddit users and GIMP developers.
