That's a lot better temperature than us Sue!
Today I shall be in the3 shed for an hour early doors refining the bed casting with hand work after completing the milling to size. I have de-fatted the pork a l'orange and I shall spend the day keeping warm. Possible sleety showers in the strong wind will not attract me to walk!

This morning was clean up time on the VM, revert to the normal cutter. Then refine the finish on the bed with hand tools and the air drive grinder to clean up the centre of the target end. Now the target is breakfast.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
The crossing was only a little agitated but we slept through it. However this morning it was too windy to leave the ferry. We waited in the car for 30 minutes but then had to go back into the lounge of the ferry for over two hours while they moved the ship to a more sheltered berth. I think it will be late when we get home., its very windy but sunny in Oxfordshire, just stopped for some lunch. Its along time since breakfast

That must have been a severe wind Sue. Glad you were off the ferry and en route!
I shall be in the shed for an hour with my castings. Looks like a better day so I shall take a view about a walk later today.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Today I drilled the four holes in the base for the holding down screws that secure the base to the plinth. Then I drilled the clearance holes in the lugs on the bed for the 2BA bolts that will secure it to the base. Next I marked drilled and tapped for the two bo0lts at the cylinder end of the bed and fitted them, adjusting the holes so that the bed sits correctly on the base. That took 45 minutes so I have abandoned the engine in favour of my breakfast.

Morning
We were both wide awake at just after 5.30 am as our bodies are still on french time. Its a lovely clear morning with the weather gauge showing minus 1.2 degrees. It is however dry. We had a sunny but windy drive to just before Oxford where we stopped at a Starbuck for a coffee and some lunch as it was over 5 hours since we had had breakfast. We fleetingly called at Julias in Coventry and that was where the journey deteriorated with driving sleet, hail, rain and horrendous wind all the way to Rochdale. A pleasant note on arrival was all the Spring flowers in the front and back garden. Our garden tidying before our trip paid off , even the geraniums in the greenhouse had survived the extremes of weather.
Today is art at Haslingden, where I will be demonstrating a technique of painting on fabric with acrylic paints. Lucy is coming this afternoon. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
It's been quite a day. One of my major issues since Col died has been how i can possibly deal with his huge collection of tools and supplies stored in his workshop. Friends, including Big Kev, have been invited round to take whatever they fancy in return for a donation to charity. Col would be well pleased that Kev is setting up his own workshop with some of the woodworking tools.
I contacted 'Trawden Shedders' a charity set up in an old mill building to give men a place to get together and enjoy making things. Two of the organisers came up on Monday and were totally gobsmacked by the amount of stuff. Today they returned with members from a similar Colne charity and a Nelson women's group, plus vans, trailers and roof racks. They were all delighted and grateful to be able to take so much, either to use in their workshops or sell on to raise funds for their charities. A return visit to collect more is planned and they have offered, as a thankyou, to arrange for a skip and people, to clear out anything that is unusable.
I'm happy at this solution to my big problem, which seemed insurmountable, and I think I've even made some new friends,

Wendy, clearing Col’s shed sounds like a good thing to do.
Have you any plans for its future use… A She Shed, Bird Watching?

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
What a splendid post and what an imaginative and effective solution to a big problem. Well done Wendy and wouldn't Colin be pleased!
I shall be in my shed ear4ly doors working on the castings. There's no rush, I am quietly moving forward with the next build.... The forecast doesn't look very attractive, I suspect that rather than going for a walk I shall be watching the rain through the window.....
