Maz and Cath, you can't instil pride easily when it is lost but you can fine people for littering! I reckon to pick one piece of litter every morning when Jack and I go for our early walk. Mind you, we ignore the vomit! Barlick is a clean town on the whole and we have Mark our street-sweeper who is a good worker.
The High Court has quashed the Hillsborough inquest and ordered a new one. This opens the way to a full criminal investigation as well of retired and serving police officers. There could be justice at last? (LINK)
Another arrest under Yewtree.
Doc called in yesterday and he's working on the archive. He's found a programme that opens the file in a readable format and is working on a code to post the old site on the new one instead of in a separate archive. That'll make the site interesting if he pulls it off! Imagine what the 'active topics would look like for a couple of days!
The Pollard report on the reaction of the BBC management to the Savile affair. My question is why no sackings in that or the Macalpine case? Entwistle doesn't count as a sacking in my book, more a natural consequence followed by a golden handshake. I haven't heard anyone mentioning the outsourcing of the research on Macalpine, that was the root of that problem.

All cleaned up now, so 'bouquets' to the council, though the horror house wasn't done...but they were only there a few days ago.

Jon Stoddart the chosen one to sort out the investigation is a real nice guy from all accounts he stayed in my van in Brittany for several years on the trot, lets hope the Hillsborough thing is drawn to a quick conclusion its dragged on long enough. Eileen.

I doubt if it will be quick Eileen but at least the families now know it's going in the right direction.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Aye, the end of the world came and went again without much fuss, and if I understand it correctly, I will not thankfully be present at the real one. Mind you, the current rush to get everything done for a modern day Christmas has already ended the lives of several people on the roads, and there are three more days yet. This was the shortest day of the year, my Mother would have been 110 years old today, bless her, and the way some of this planets inhabitants are shaping up, she hasn't missed much. It was much like Armageddon in Asda this morning, a clear indication that a part of modern society have no time for others, a lot of elderly people shop there on Fridays and have to cope with the vital, i'm in control of everything young mums who manage their trolleys just as they do their state of the art 4X4s, "how dare you get in my way"!!! Tomorrow night I am supposed to go to a big party that will be dominated by such characters and as a bloke I will be in the minority, this would have been fine 50 years ago, but my patience and tolerance levels are somewhat diminished, yet I can still deliver a verbal putdown that remains controlled and polite, even when somewhat overpowered by Chanel No5 or whatever, and I have a secret weapon that will not manifest itself until I am safely back home. Yes, the rather nasty virus that one of these people passed to me last week. Now i know why I like cats!!! Meow.

Aye Kev, that and the fact that I have never dealt with HMRC online, and My tax is sorted for me by the Government Department responsible for my pensions. That one has an "Out of Africa" ring to it.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Not sure what it was that attracted my attention but I woke at about 02:00 and sensed something was wrong. Got up and had a bit of a furtle and the main switch on the junction box had tripped and I had no power to the plug circuits. Didn't affect the oven where the beef was slow-cooking as it's on a separate circuit but CH was off and house was cooling down. Knocked the trip back in and all seems well, not sure what tripped it but they are very sensitive, as they should be of course. Bit of a mystery but everything is functioning as far as I can see so on with the day. Interesting question is, what woke me? Old engine tenting instincts responding to a subtle change in noise levels?

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Stanley, I can be in a deep sleep, but if there is a power cut, I am awake in seconds. My "Pit" on HMS Blake was immediately above the port/aft 20,000 SHP engine, not a quiet beast but I only woke up if it stopped unexpectedly, or emited any strange sounds.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Same thing again this morning. Tripped out at about 22:33. Something strange going on but haven't worked ut out yet. The TV recorder was running both times..... I'll track it down eventually. The good thing is the trip is doing its job!
After some thought I've decided it's probably the TV recorder giving notice. I shall avoid recording, empty the disc of stored films and then try doing a recording again. If there is no trip in the interim and it happens again when I record I think we need a new recorder.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
We had someone finish a job in our loft the day before we went on holiday. When we came back from hols the burglar alarm had been going. It was puzzling for a while until we found that he'd left the light on in the loft. The bulb had blown and taken out the trip on the lighting circuit. The alarm is connected into that circuit but should fall back on the battery in the event of a power cut. But the bulb must have gone early in the week, the battery was probably low on charge and was fully discharged before the end of the week and then the alarm went off. The moral is never trust anyone to switch off your loft light (and make sure your alarm battery is changed regularly - it's easy to do, they don't cost much and you don't need to call out the alarm fitter to do the job if you're careful).

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
These intermittent faults are tricky and I'm watching for clues. It tripped again yesterday but while I was replaying a film I'd recorded, I decided to record a film late at night after I'd gone to bed and it didn't trip.... I'll identify it in the end!
During our walk I noticed a large picture of a Morso stove same as mine in the card shop on Church Street. What struck me was that they had the firebox door shut and the ashpit open. Not a good thing as it can burn the grate out. Mind you, they may have had a very bad flue and needed all the draught they could get.
Had a look at the CBRE auction website. The HSBC bank building in Newtown was up for auction on December 5th but was withdrawn from sale. There mustn't have been enough interest in it to meet the bank's reserve.
