Nothing to do with whether the representative of the Secretary of State knows best.

The officer only applied the statutes as pertain within Pendle Council planning policy

Plus, because the council lost the case it will have to pay costs to the applicant. Somehow I doubt that the Councillors who refused it (in spite of the officers recommendation to approve) will be liable. The bill will land at the feet of the rate payer for both council & applicant

That is what annoys me the most.
That would require me to read the relevant documentation. It's much more fun to get up on my soapbox and "hoot and holler" about the local open countryside being developed.

You have to hoot n hollar when they put out documents like the Core Strategy. That now defines Pendle planning policy possibly for the next 15 years

All legally binding now as it has gone to consultation and been accepted by the executive.

Hooting and Hollaring now is just similar to certain politicians who wish to open non existant divides within policy in order to differentiate themselves. It has no effect upon what actually happens unless a huge groundswell of people rise up and throw out the politicians

Mrs Tiz's geologist nephew has just ended up hitting the central reservation on the M25. Someone rammed his car from behind and sent him spinning into the reservation. He's not hurt but the car's a write-off and he was charged £500 for removing it from the motorway.

Daughter had a minor accident at 15mph on a residential road when another driver opened her car door in front of her. Cost, £1000 and a lot of hassle. I'm glad I haven't got a car....

I forgot to say I had a little story for you. I've finished Sherston and a lot of it is about fox-hunting. Not surprisingly there was another hunting book on the shelf next to Sassoon and I opened it yesterday for the first time since I bought it probably (7/6 in pencil inside the cover). It's an ex library book, "Volume 3 from the Bad Salzuflen Riding Club Library' according to the stamp. Last two dates it was taken out were in September and October 1948. Beneath this information is a pencil signature, probably the librarian who signed it off for disposal. I've never looked closely at this before but I suddenly realised it was Bruce Lockhart. That name rang a bell because a man of that name was in the SIS and had been sent to the States to replace Kim Philby when he defected. So I went and had a look on Tinternetwebthingy... Sure enough, Lockhart was in charge of the SIS headquarters for Germany in 1948 and it was located in Bad Salzuflen. How nice, I had his autograph! It got better when I looked the book up and it's the 1937 first edition published by Seeley Service. A letter signed by him to Max Aitken is on sale for £85. The book itself is written by Major General Geoffrey Brooke, the man who founded the charity to look after horses after WW1. So, it's sat there all this rime and it turns out it's quite a rarity.....

What a nice thing to happen. You'll need to add that to your household list of important things otherwise it might end up in a second hand shop for 20p one day.

The 'objection' to the West Craven High School rebuild is "no notification of what will happen to the floodlights of the all weather pitches as they are not prescribed"

Despite the fact that out of school hours the school would like Pendle Leisure Trust to run them (run by Pendle Council)

Political madness :laugh5:

Cath, quite right so I informed my literary executor and reminded him he'd already had his fee!
Today has been busy getting my new ISP set up but with a bit of help from Doc who dropped in to see what I was doing we got there in the end. All systems up and running.
Doc and I had a good set-off to Windermere yesterday apart from the lousy weather. On the way back we called in at Preston and looked at his boat. It is very, very impressive! I have a pic for you....

By the way, I bought a couple of shirts and a Harris Tweed waistcoat, not that I needed them, just because I could!

Maz, you are in good company in thinking that. A friend of mine who was with US Army Intelligence commented that I looked like a 1950s Russian operative!
All sorted out now David with a little help from Doc. Speed hasn't increased yet but I'll give them time to get their act together.
Hocus Pocus is a proper boat, well-built and definitely capable of ocean-sailing. Doc has done well, bought sensibly and is doing all his homework to get it in top class order. He gave me a spare copy of the official handbook for watch-keeping officers that he had to learn by heart for his Master's ticket.... More to it than meets the eye.
What grabbed me yesterday was that in my current vogue for waistcoats my new Harris Tweed fits me nicely and is very smart and comfortable. The new shirts fit well and yesterday I got out a rather special waistcoat I was given by Martha. It's an original Lanz of Salzburg 'boiled wool' garment. It's knitted using a very coarse wool in an open weave and then washed hot so it felts up. Made far too big originally so it's the right size when it shrinks. A very old technique used in Germany for traditional clothes. It is very thick and warm. You date these by the design of the label and unless there is something I don't know, this was made in the 1930s so it's as old as I am! I'll bet it will wear for ever!

Always nice to get a parcel! Even if you know what's in it.
Savile Report really is horrific isn't it. What grabbed me was what one brave lady said who allowed herself to be shown on TV. She said that the chief benefit to her was the fact that at last she was believed..... I wish her, and the rest of the informants all the best.
One thing struck me, the report is bad enough but under the waterline there must be many more who have not come forward and are still suffering from the abuse.

Smooch as much as you want Cathy! A lady stopped me in the Town Square on Friday and asked whether the overcoat was a Crombie, she said her dad had one. You can't get this weight of cloth now and I saw exactly the same coat on a retro clothing site for over £500. Good clothes last! Many years ago, Martha's daughter bought herself a boiled woollen jacket by Lanz of Salzburg, She fancied havin it too big as it was the fashion at the time but found it too heavy to wear and never got on with it. It's knitted from very heavy rough wool and then boiled so it felts up and is incerdibly warm. Martha was having a clear out about 15 years ago while I was staying with her and gave it too me. The sleeves were too tight so I cut them out but even so it was too small for my belly and not comfortable. Now I have lost weighjt it fits well and so I am wearing it. I can tell you one thing for sure, I shall never wear it out!

Stanley I still have the 8x12 black and white glossy photo that you must have given to Marilyn and Dave the first time they visited you, thats how I see you in my mind, you have a beard in the photo and your name is written in cursive across the bottom. Oh, and your calendar one... hehe.

Just a thought - is that an RM Williams shirt you are wearing above?

When I was getting off the bus today I noticed something glinting in the grass, I picked it up and found it to be a ladies gold ring. I brought it home and have cleaned it. It's a plaited gold band, really pretty, anyway I've put a Found Notice in the deli and will put one in my main shops tomorrow. It's the kind of ring that would be much missed I think, so hopefully the owner will see my notices.
