Had a ride out to Morecambe yesterday, when we left here it was overcast, as we approached Gisburn it got very misty and cloudy. We ran out of the in Bentham and by the time we got to Lancaster the sky was blue and the sun was shining. It stayed like that until we got to the Trough of Bowland on our return, once again cloudy and dull.
Say only a little but say it well.

We had the mist and an overcast day but it was mild. Glass is falling slightly, 28.7" this morning so we may be entering a change.....
08:10 and we are back from our morning walk. A bit cooler perhaps but calm, dry and quite pleasant for January.

There are 88 bushfires burning in NSW at the moment, if thats not bad enough tomorrow will be their worst day when the temp hits 43C.

Thousands of people are stranded because ofcourse they can't go home yet.

40 blazes still burning in Tasi, 2 are out of control.

Some good news... some of our Zoo animals (Polar Bears and Big Cats) are being given their meals frozen in huge blocks of ice. It's fun for them but keeps them cool at the same time.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Lots to be said for living in Barlick. No funnel web spiders either!
Good day again in Barlick, light shower at dinnertime but nothing to worry about. Glass slowly falling, 29.7" this morning but dry flags..... Could be a good day for Doc and I to go to Windermere!

There's till 140 bushfires burning in NSW. Some are spotfires, some are huge, 40 are out of control. Quite a few people missing but no deaths have been reported. Tasi has 40 fires burning. 1400 Fire Fighters are on duty in 3 states (NSW, Vic and Tasi). Most of these fires are naturally occuring eg: lightning strikes. It's just such a pity and very scarey when people, their homes and pets or farm animal stock get in the way.

The quite palatable (IMO) very mild weather we've been having of late is coming to an end. It going to get colder again.

Its easier to deal with cold than hot though. I just put another jumper on, if its too hot there's not much besides air-conditioning.

Yes indeed it looks like colder weather from the north-east or east by Sunday - its not yet a certainty - but its looking like it will happen. As to any signs of snow, there could be in the east some white stuff, but in the west too as milder westerlies try to push into the country - though they might not make it so we could see some snow in the north-west of England next week. Its not 100 percent.

Doc and I had a wet day yesterday in the Lake District but this morning in Barlick it's dry and calm, bit colder but not unpleasant. I think the glass fell a bit yesterday but it's back at just over 29.7" this morning. Looks like a cold spell coming in.

Much colder in Barlick this morning, definitely a frost! Funny thing is the glass is dropping, almost back to 29.5". Could there be the prospect of a clap of snow?
Later at 07:50, we're back from our walk and I was wrong, there is no frost but it's not far off! Cold ears! Getting light enough to see the path at 07:00 because the overcast is quite light. That makes a welcome change.....

Some snow likely over hills this weekend in the east of the area. It will become very cold with sharp frosts at night. Get the thermals out. :laugh5:

Foggy at 20:00 last night but clearer this morning and there is ice on top of the back gate so there is definitely a frost this morning! Glass not moving much, it's steady around 29.5" so it looks like settled weather for a day or two.

Thick fog here till just after 4pm when it all suddenly rolled down the from the hills into the valleys. It was quite spectacular to watch...I could see the top of Weets and bits of the Bowland hills in the distance but everything else was just a mountainous sea of rolling mist. Even Colin looked up briefly from his computer and remarked on it. A thick frost this morning and I had to take my lump hammer out with me to free the hens & ducks from their runs!

Families have been allowed back to their homes and properties today in Tasmania.
NSW firefighters have been doing a lot of backburning last night and today in the hope that tomorrows 40C and high winds won't do too much more damage, having the ground already burnt means the fire has nothing left to burn. Some fires have a 100kilometre front.

Nice morning though Wendy. Cold but calm and dry apart from one sprinkle of snow about 06:00. The cloud looks to be breaking up a bit....

Todays Burnley Express shows an ex. Burnley lady of 90+ who has lost everything in the fires in Tasmania, her son-in-law (she lives with them) lost his fishing boats which were his livelihood.
Much colder today, our windscreen was frozen up this morning.

Moh, we have a lot to be thankful for despite the number of complaints about our weather. I often think how lucky Barlick is in the case of flooding....
Very cold outside this morning. Yesterday was cold but pleasant as long as you were wrapped up and no repetition of the scattering of snow early in the morning. Glass is still nailed fast on 29.5" so no change and I suppose we can expect the cold to increase. I don't know about you lot but when it gets as cold as this I forget about energy conservation and make sure the house is warm!
08:15. Just back from our walk and there is no frost and we have overcast skies. The thing that struck me was the way the wind is strenthening from the East and it's bitter cold! This is the wind direction they have been warning us about... (According to the Daily Express we are all doomed because it's going to be so cold....)

Oh that is a sad story Moh, I imagine there will be many more unfortunately.

This mornings news said NSW had 13 fires out of control and 95 uncontained, with more expected. It's unforgivable how many of these fires have been deliberately lit!! West of Sydney had 45C today and Moomba in SA's far far north had 49C (I don't think I've heard of that temp before).

Adelaide was blessed with 25C today and tomorrow we will have 22C... Bliss

Don't know if this will help but themercury.com.au is Tasi's largest-circulating daily newspaper. I had a look and couldn't see any surnames in the fire stories but you might want to have a look, maybe the story was reported on a different day.
