Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
If I watch it, all I would do is watch out for how many scrums were won by the team that did not put the ball in, similarly for lineouts. I haven't seen one in several matches. Seems like a lot of effort for nothing
They seem to change the rules a lot - lifting people at a line out used to be a foul - or so I think I remember - but now it is part of the game.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Trying to wind down this evening after a trip to Mum's. Forty miles there driving into the blinding sun, a quick cup of coffee whilst going through the post then back out to drive through heavy local traffic to M&S Food. The patience of a saint needed to survive the shopping experience then back through the traffic again. A brief moment of calm for lunch then.....
The front door is sticking so I rubbed some wax over the sticking points. One of her phones isn't working but she hadn't got it sat on the base station properly so the batteries were totally dead , into the car again to search for somewhere to buy new batteries. One phone is now charging up but the other is very low on charge. so I'm hoping it lasts. At this point I open a drawer in the kitchen to put something away and the drawer front comes off in my hand.....aaagh! Bash it back on but it will come straight off next time it's opened. I cant deal with it as I need to get home before dark to get the ponies in. Set off home...40 miles driving into the blinding setting sun, feeling bad for not having dealt with "the water in the bathroom making a funny noise when I turn it on" or even "the gas boiler is switching on every time I walk past it..."
What a terrible daughter I am.....where's the wine.

Well deserved by the sound of it Wendy, no point beating yourself over the head either. You do what you can, aged parents are a worry but you should never feel guilty for having a life of your own.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Oh Wendy, it all sounds so familiar, I really feel sorry for you and I hope the wine helped! It's similar to our experiences with my Dad and to Mrs Tiz's sister's experiences with their parents because she lives about 30 miles from them whereas we are 150 miles away from them and she has to do the trips while we do the remote telephone stuff. She has just told us how she came home after dealing with both parents going into hospital last week and drank half a bottle of wine and collapsed asleep. It seems as if every time we go to my Dad's house there is something wrong and it's difficult to decipher what's happening because now we can't trust what he tells us, he quickly forgets and confuses things. He tells different stories at different times. (Don't worry - he has heat because the `advance' still works and he can press the button to get anything from 1 to 9 hours of advance. But I have to check that he remembers that he can do that and how to do it.)
Your story of being told "the gas boiler is switching on every time I walk past it..." doesn't surprise me at all, it's exactly the sort of thing my Dad might say. As we get older and our brains get a bit worn out we gradually lose the ability to reason and analyse, and begin to accept the simplest explanation for what we observe. In his last house my Dad kept saying somebody had been banging on his front door in the middle of the night and we could never find anything to explain this - and it was very unlikely anyway in the small village where the house was located. When he moved he then told us the same was happening there. I think it might be a subconscious memory popping up in a dream because he and my mum had something like that happen once when he lived in Blackburn and they had to call the police. But he tells us he never dreams!

I once had the 'banging noise' syndrome. Turned out to be a hair in my ear tapping on my eardrum, Mary had cut my hair and blown in my ear to get the loose hairs out.....

Waiting for Bookstop to call in and remove the culled books. Funny thing is there is hardly any spare room on shelves even though twelve feet have been taken out! Books are strange wee beasties.....

Hope you enjoyed your night out Sue. I shall be in the Earby Heritage Room this morning. We have just about caught up with database entries and are doing a check to make sure every item is in the place the database says it should be. I can then put an up to date index of the archive on the website. We try not to get distracted by interesting items, but its difficult!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Today I am back to reading Tolkein's Silmarrillion so that when the Hobbit trilogy appears on our screens I shall be up to speed. I am reminded of the time C S Lewis is reported as having responded to J R R Tolkein telling him about his latest writing on the research for the Lord of the Rings. "Not more f.....g elves!" Joking aside, and it is not an easy read, one has to admire the effort Tolkein put into creating a history, language and geography for his epic fantasies. The amount of scholarship embedded in it is elusive but you are always getting echoes of Norse Sagas, myths and legends. I am still fascinated by it.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Trying to install a new printer which I have got for my birthday. My previous one is OK but needs slight attention - it sometimes prints perfectly and other times leaves one line smudged. I am hoping to sell it if anyone is interested - it is an Epson stykus DX8400 series, comes with the Cd, book & a new black ink. I would like £20 for it.
Say only a little but say it well.
