Lovely to see you popping in Mel! I agree about simple meals and tastes. I once mopped the gravy up with bread when I was having dinner with some psychologists in California and they decided I was orally obsessive and anal retentive....
David, I did the same but just mashed mine with butter. I shall finish the last of them today. Had a toast butty with tomato relish and potted beef on for a change last night.

Long time, no hear.
Sounds as though you have learnt how to cook since becoming an old married woman.
I recall the days when it was all about eating out about four or five nights a week.
( I note 'imindoors' still doesn't appreciate veg!)

I've always been able to cook Maz and have always enjoyed doing it but I do enjoy eating out more.

Roasted veg are very underrated. Finished the Neck end and mashed veg. I've put a loaf in and got yet another frozen stew out of the freezer. We're getting there! Problem is I know exactly what I want to cook next, a Sea Pie. (Dorothy Hartley).

Like just about every night for the past 8 - 10 weeks, it is Salad for dinner.
Steamed some Chicken Breasts and have finely sliced those now they are cooled. That will get tossed through the Salad at the last moment, along with fresh Mushrooms and some fresh lemon juice. A little dob of Sour Cream to serve. Job done!

We both stopped eating bread entirely about six weeks ago. Don't miss it at all actually, though can't say I feel any different.
Only stopped eating it because Febby was bellyaching about his weight and suddenly decided it must be bread that was his problem. So I figured that what was good for the goose was good for the gander...

Last night I cooked a mega cheap tea (dinner?). I bought a biggish bag of jerusalem artichokes for 75p & made a risotto with them & shallotts & parsley. A bit fiddly, but delish! I found the recipe on't t'interweb.

In the event Moh it turned out to be a potato flan made with eggs. The one I thought we were having would have been potato scallops with onions garlic and sliced tomatoes slow roasted together with a little oil and then cheese on top added towards the end. You can substitute the oil for milk. Sally makes it both ways. The flan was very good anyway but not quite as savoury.

Bacon butty on Chia bread (wonder seed) for lunch and Pancakes tonight.

Frozen stew for dinner and a cheese and tomato relish butty for tea. I made the relish on the stove in a pan instead of under the grill to save leccy and it is just as good! Another frozen stew today for dinner and I shall think up something nice on a butty for tea.... What a good job I never tire of a good butty!

Sounds good Ian, I shall try it - I usually slice my potatoes, garlic & onion and layer in a dish and pour milk/cream over, nutmeg on top and cook in oven. Lamb chops tonight - may try that potato dish.

Only me for tea tonight once Finlay has been picked up so it's out of the freezer casserole for me made last week. I will finish off the Chia bread with it, nice comfort food just right for the weather.

Only one frozen stew left! I cooked a small pork chop on a bed of onions on the stove in a pan for filling the tea-time butty. I'll have the last stew today for tea but dinner will be fish chips and mushy peas. Susan and Mick asked me what I wanted for a birthday treat! Then I can start thinking about my sea pie with huff pastry top. (See 'Winter Warmers' in Stanley's view, one of Dorothy Hartley's old recipes from Food in England. Proper winter grub!

Fish chowder at Manchester Cornerhouse last night. Smoked mackerel tonight with left over salad from the week end if the lettuce isn't too limp.

Made a big pan of home made vegetable soup, then cut up a french stick and plastered the butter on. Very filling and because of the attention my Border terriers showed must have smelt good to.

Fish, chips and mushy peas for dinner as my birthday treat. Last of the frozen stew for tea. I gently simmered some swede, carrots and Parsnips for the veg stock and those mashed with butter are dinner today. The beg stock is for a Sea Pie which I shall build and cook slowly all day.

This Sea Pie...I looked up a couple of recipes on the net...and it isn't seafood ( as we may expect, is it?)
I believe it is layers of various meats and layers of pastry?
Am I on the right path?
Are there any veg?

Salad again. Threw some hard boiled eggs, tinned Alaskan Salmon, and a wee drizzle of Mayonnaise and Fresh Lemon Juice through.
