Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I need to make something just like that for the top of my raised bed. Is it something else to do with chickens, maybe to catch the eggs?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Ian is right that it's poultry related, but not to do with hen muck. (And no, before you start, I'm not talking about the Shades of Grey type!)
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Is it for placing newly sexed baby chickens into, females in one side and males in the other??
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Getting closer, but earlier in the process than that...Cathy wrote:Is it for placing newly sexed baby chickens into, females in one side and males in the other??
(I recall male chicks weren't given the same consideration as females. A sexer visited after each hatching; after sorting the chicks, he took the males away in boxes.)
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Is it just a tray for collecting the eggs? Then when it was full the brick was used to scramble them?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
All eggs are put in the tray and it is submerged below water. Is it the dud eggs that float?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Wendy is spot on.
The tray is one of several used to hold eggs in the incubator.
Part way through incubation the eggs were checked by shining a light through them (candeling) to see if they were fertile. If so, they were transferred to another set of trays for hatching out.
When I was a young lad, one of the jobs was helping with the regular candeling.
I doubt Chinatyke would have appreciated scrambling the infertile eggs - they stank!

Is it your 'money pit'?
You know - the hole in the ground where all your money seems to disappear into?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Well a few of you seem to have spotted the hole in the middle, question is what's in there. I have to say it's beneficial.
