Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
As of yesterday evening, five plants have been taken from the planting we carried out last week in the gardens at the War Memorial. These were all removed from an area which was planted up by the younger members of the planting team. There's no sign of the plants just being chucked around, so I'm assuming someone's taken them for their garden. It's sickening that someone would steal from the memorial area.
Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
David, were these edible plants?, Whatever, I agree, it is sickening.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
The plants taken were; Skimmia Kew Green, Photinia Pink Marble, Fuchsia Mrs Popple and two Hewcheva.
I've reported the theft to the police and the neighbourhood policing team will check footage from the two cameras which cover that area.
We only spotted the Fuchsia had gone yesterday evening, so that one may have been taken after the other ones - which were missing yesterday (Tuesday) morning.
Here's a picture of some of the young people planting shrubs in the gardens.

This may be one of my faults, its not impatience, but I got used to a life where when things were supposed to happen, they happened PDQ. I am still waiting to hear from the Regiment and Whitby, and up until an hour ago the three estimates as well. Two of these have just arrived by post, the third I am expecting by e/mail. I haven't done any book work for the past two weeks, but the bulk of that is already sorted, and I have a year at my disposal. This could be a good time to re-install the Flight Simulator before I forget how it works!

We now have all three estimates for the panels, and I am waiting as patiently as is possible for the other responses to appear.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
The three estimates are now in the hands of a Councillor, and the first meeting concerning this matter is to be at the Rainhall Centre at 7.00 PM, Tuesday the 7th of May 2013, the 2nd and possibly more important meeting will be on Wednesday the 15th of May. It is disappointing that there has been nil response as yet from the 4th Battalion,Yorkshire Regiment. I will send a further mail and see what follows. With this in mind, I have already pulled the contact details for the 3rd Battalion (The Duke of Wellingtons) currently at Warminster, and it was noted that they have carried out engagements of this nature at York and beyond, and of course, there is still the Duke of York. If there has been no positive response within the next 14 days, I "will" be mailing him. Barlick may, or may not be, an unknown or forgotten spot on the map, but was it not here where the advancement of aeronautical technology in respect of the jet engine "Took Off" and is still here! Methinks tis payback time!!!

Not strictly concerning this topic but may be of interest to they who have a look. I don't often go into the Council Shop, but this morning whilst in there I spotted a book and bought a copy. At £5.50 I think its a bargain, "They were there, 1939-1945". A brief look through it, and I knew many of the people in the photographs. There was one however that I did not know but made a connection that I assume to be correct, "John Lambert" Ian, is that your Dad? Proceeds from this book go to the Royal British Legion.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
It is indeed Peter. Margaret did some very good accounts in the book of some of our locals exploits. Always interesting to see what folk got up to, which is often forgotten particularly as veterans get older. I see on the news that the RAF bomber crews are eventually getting some recognition and also the lads involved in the Malayan uprising. All long overdue of course and a National disgrace that so many could be forgotten or swept under the carpet.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
Very true Ian. I knew Peter Gill from childhood, another man who flew in "Lancs" was Doctor Chapman, and my mentor at Earby Light Engineering was Dick Penman, ex flight engineer on Halifax Bombers. I knew Eric Cockerill, and Bob Hartley was my Headmaster for four years, Harry Bracewell was one of the teachers, my wife's Headmaster from the Church School is in there as well. Many of my teachers had served in WW2 and their approach to discipline is something that is sadly lacking today, and they had some good stories to tell. That book will come in very handy when my effort arrives at WW2, and I need to seek out the author for permission to use it as reference. The publishers are the same ones that I have already spoken with at Settle, they did Bob Adels book as well.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
I used to mend Peter Gill's TV when in the trade and Eric was a good friend, both of my dad and myself as he was also a radio amateur as well as the Pearl Assurance man. It was Eric that encouraged me to go for my licence in the late 70's. Eric started the cross distribution at Ghyll, the role I do once a year now. I put a cross down at Bracewell for him now.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
Two meetings are coming up shortly that concern the additions to the Memorial, the first of these is next week, Tuesday evening, 07-05-2013, meeting starts at 7.0 PM in the Rainhall Centre, the second will be I understand, on Wednesday 15-05-2013. Barring any serious events I will be there.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
Ian and myself were both at last nights meeting of the area committee, progress is being made and there is another meeting next Wednesday evening, this all involves the funding of the addition of the missing names etc. It is now just over four weeks since the positive e/mail from the 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment, since then I am disappointed to report that there has been no further contact! With this in mind I am going to shake the top of that particular tree and see what filters down through the branches, but before that happens I am going to mail the Co. of the 3rd Battalion at Halifax, if that doesn't generate a response, then the shaking begins!

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
Tonight is another meeting at which the Memorial additions funding will be on the agenda. There has still been no further response from the Yorkshires, this I find rather annoying, so now it is time to shake the top of the tree and see what falls out!

I imagine so Ian, I have tried ringing David this morning and am awaiting a reply, as soon as I know, I will call you. I have rung the Rainhall Centre and the room is booked for 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
The town council meeting this evening is a 7pm start.
Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
Ian and I both attended last night's meeting and were rewarded with good news X 2, First, BWMG member Councillor Ken Hartley became Chairman of the town Council, and second, the go-ahead was given for the commissioning of the panels with a view to them being in place for a re-dedication ceremony on Sunday the 8th of September. We can now concentrate on the other two items, the presence of the William Riley and the Military. Distant members have all been informed of this development. Yesterday was a busy one which included phone calls from both local papers, its strange how calls like these always come at an awkward moment, for one I was on the loo, and the second having a shave, thats life I suppose!

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
There is another meeting taking place today, this time in Whitby, and fellow member Colin will be there. The issue of the lifeboat William Riley, and the possibility of its appearance here will be on the agenda, the results of which I should know tomorrow. The past two weeks have been hard as I have had to deal with a big family problem, this was "Capped" off last Friday night with the arrival of the worst chest infection I have ever known, and with the knowledge that all normal GP practices were closed for three days, I feel like the "Wreck of the Hesperus" a combination of violent sneezing, coughing, and the runs, takes careful management, and I hurt all over! I was hoping to attend the local RNLI meeting tomorrow night with some good news, this will now depend on the next 24 hours, will there be good news, and will I be fit enough to attend? I do not wish to inflict this on anyone else.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
I did not go to last nights meeting as what I have is not something I want to share with anyone, I called David Squire earlier and made my apologies. In any case, the news I was waiting for did not arrive. Fellow member and Chairman of the Council, Ken has re-joined the battle to try and get military involvement , the letter he has sent to the Secretary of the 3rd Battalion is magnificent and echoes my sentiments entirely! I could get very angry about the lack of response that is taking place, and there are already certain issues concerning our "modern" military that I find most alarming, but that has little to do with this topic. The Craven Herald almost got it right this time, only two errors, should be easy to spot, but not my fault.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
I am sorry to have to report that the lifeboat William Riley will not be here on the 8th of September. It is being moved to the Farne Islands on the 6th to take part in an RNLI event on the 7th marking the "Grace Darling" episode, getting it from there to here in under 24 hours is not practical, it is hoped however that it could be here during the "Barlick Beach" period, this is yet to worked on. Sorry Chaps but there it is, but I do have something in mind as a backup plan!!! And! I can now go after the Military with all guns blazing.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
That's an unfortunate clash of dates Peter, never mind it will still be good if it can make an appearance at some other time though. It would certainly raise awareness in more than one quarter no doubt.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
There may be good news in the offing regarding the Yorkshire Regiment. I have had to steer clear of this for a while due to serious family problems. As soon as I have more news I will post it here.

Re: BARLICK WAR MEMORIAL GROUP, REVEILLE.
In view of recent developments, I believe the time has come to replace this with a new topic, ie "BARNOLDSWICK WAR MEMORIAL RE-DEDICATION". the groundwork has been done, and many thanks to you all.
