I was contacted by Mohsin on my twitter account to say that he couldn't get onto the site and register.

Log in and find that he is the newest member, so glad that is sorted

He says he can't post or add to his profile. Is that because of some temporary moderation?

I have looked at his account and the permissions were incorrectly set (this should happen automatically on registration) but did not in this case. There are a few anomalies coming to light since the system crash last month. I have granted permissions where required and he should be able to post and browse the forums now.

The following occurred on Friday last. First the arrival of a planning application notice:- Proposal; "Change of use of the bus turning area to residential curtilage" Location; "Land adjacent to former Fosters Arms Hotel, Gisburn Rd." File Ref; 13/13/0271P". Then in the early evening, four of these notices appeared in that area:-

Whet grabbed me this morning is how unlucky Quebec is with its mayors. One retired suddenly under a cloud accused of turning a blind eye to financial shenanigans and his successor has just been arrested on a similar charge.

If you put Barnoldswick into the search box of the www.pepipoo.com web site given by Pete above you get an enormous number of results (but possibly none of them related to the above notice, there hasn't been time for responses yet). Perhaps Barlickers should put a copy of the notice photo into the pepipoo.com web forum and ask for comments?

I have had no response from Pendle or Lancashire about the legality of these signs. If there is a planning application I presume that people will write in to the appropriate people to object to the loss of the amenity

It appears that the land is intended to become the gardens of the new houses that may be built on the Fosters site, and today I was asked by a driver of one of the "Town Buses" if I thought that it was safe for him to stop his bus there?!!! As I see it, yes, until such time as the applied for planning permission is granted.

Much impressed by the amount of time and effort Ian and Pluggy are putting into addressing the problems after the recent site crash. They are making progress and it looks as though the eventual answer will be to reload the platform after all the problems associated with that are solved. Believe me, they are working hard and getting there. I noticed this morning that when I sent Ian a PM the error message had gone, so that's a big improvement!

I've asked for the planning application for the Fosters Arms bus station to go to the area committee and made sure that staff who deal with public transport are aware of the proposal.

The land was previously owned by the brewery and rented out for use as a bus stop.

There's some similarity with a piece of land in our Somerset village. It's behind the pub in the centre of the village and has been used for a long time by the locals as a car park especially for taking kids to and from school or visiting the Post Office or shop. There's no other car park except for a very small area alongside the pub. A For Sale sign went up on the land a couple of months ago and now it's been sold to a local builder for £70,000, presumably to build houses. I think the pub landlord owned the land and he might have got it from Whitbread who owned the pub in the past before the landlord bought the business. No planning application has surfaced yet. I keep asking what's going to happen when the land is no longer available for parents and teachers for parking but nobody seems to have a solution. Perhaps there will be resistance when an application is made to the planners, on the ground of precedence.

I understand that an officer from Pendle went out to Foster's yesterday to check out the signs and whether they have any legal voracity. Still awaiting a response.

The alarming scandal in the Furness hospital, the destroying of the report by the CQC and the suggested Ministerial interference in 2010 to cover up the issues revealed.

It would appear that only the whistle blower has lost their job, and the whole situation wouldn't have come to light without some other employee actually leaking the relevant emails.

I mentioned to my mate Martha that I wasn't impressed by 'The Great Gatsby' and it turns out she wasn't either. Further, the doctor who delivered Fitzgerald lived in Martha's house at the time. I've spent so many happy weeks there and never knew!

I had decided to call in at the surgery to make sure that the recommendation for my eye surgery had been processed but as I went out there was a letter in the box. Turned out that it was from the surgery about the operation and half an hour later I have an appointment next Wednesday at Gisburne Park with the surgeon and have my transport arranged with Susan. Quite impressed and nice it is so close as Gisburn is only about 3 miles. Things moving nicely....
Abbey at Gisburne Park is a private hospital but they take overspill from the main hospitals and it looks as though I may have been lucky. They tell me that they are only occasionally included in the choices.
Update on the repairs to the platform. Ian is spending a lot of time on this and making some progress but keeps hitting glitches that he has to overcome. He's working hard on it and I have told him it would drive me mad! We need to recognise effort like this and encourage him and Pluggy.

Looks like the CQC has copied Ofsted's prime role in ensuring that it always covers up its own failings. Unfortunately for CQC there has not been a change of Government through which to loose the concerns and it looks like David Behan is wanting to name and shame those managers responsible. Nolic

Sally's mum had her eyes sorted at Gisburne Park. Sally took her down in the morning and picked her up in the afternoon. Straightforward procedure and home in time for tea.

They were done separately Stanley with a few weeks between the procedures. It made a big difference to her though and the first procedure did not put her of the second (if you know what I mean).

Here's something else for parents of young children to worry about (taken from my local paper), - "Primary schoolchildren are losing their handwriting skills, according to a report last month. The popularity of iPads and computers, which encourage swiping and typing, has left students with undeveloped arm and hand muscles."

This on top of a lot of young children and teenagers who can only write in 'text speak' and can't spell, find it hard reading normal text, and have no idea about grammar !! I bet a lot of these kids have never written a personal letter or written and sent a greeting or thankyou card, even to their own grandparents. I'd hate to be a teacher, the frustration would 'do me in', I'm sure.

Cathy, I suspect that teachers were complaining when they moved away from teaching longhand. Almost forgotten now but when I was taught to write we had steel pen nibs and dip-in inkwells full of ink made by mixing powder with water. (The dreaded ink-monitor's job) The paper had three lines on it and the bottom one was used to loacet the tails of the letters. Up strokes had to be thin and down strokes made thicker by laying on harder with the pen. Those were the days you might say but as soon as the requirement was dropped we all went happily into 'normal' handwriting. I suspect it's almost a lost art today. Perhaps it's progress.....
