Tizer pop photos

Post by Tizer »

We've recently had photos of two vintage buses with Tizer advertisements on them in another thread and that prompted me to start this topic. If you find any photos relating to Tizer pop (soft drink to all you youngsters) then please post them in this topic. We could probably stretch it to include Vimto too! Here are the two buses (the one with the Aspro ad was posted as a link on OG by Whyperion, the second is from the Quantock Motor Services web site)...

Nice idea! The more pics the better, we lost so many when we migrated to this platform. We may eventually get them back but in the meantime the more we post and re-post the better!

I wonder how many millions of those CI Crown Cap openers were made? Just about indestructible, there must be many survivors!

Tiz I would send you the kitchen lino ( but its still covering the floor ) , from the days when TIZER was repeated around a screw cap in raised letters , clumsy me dropped bottle on floor , glass smashed red sticky liquid everywhere , imprint in reverse showing of TIZER in the soft lino. A mess to clean up, and we lost the 2d deposit on the bottle.

There is a group( pool ) on Flickr for Vimto

(Un ? ) Fortunately for Tizer on Flickr the predominant photos seem to be for an urban graffitti artist Tizerone ID.

Unless I sold it I probably have one of these, photo from : http://www.badgecollectorscircle.co.uk/badges/view/2022 , whose page quotes from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tizer , on the history anyone seen any photos of Pickup's Appetizer ?

Following on from the history :

Image

The fruit juiced based recipe has been discontinued for a while ( appeared to be Orange , Lemon, Lime with Blackcurrant for colour ).

A G Barr plc whom acquired the product in 1972 are reported to be selling out to Britvic. This might not be a bad thing , as one of Barr's problems over the years has been constant and wide distribution ( in one of the hot summers it was reported as not having enough capacity to meet demand ) , and bumping up against coke and pepisco products (Britvic I think are the UK licence holder for Pepsi )

Wandering slightly askew

Image

Greg Wallace on This Morning (ITV 1) yesterday , said fruit had never been branded like chocolate or similar ( ? Del Monte , John West , Outspan , Cape , ) I had only heard of Libby's in relation to evaporated milk ( I think its part of nestles ? now )

Now then, who makes this model of a bus with a Tizer ad on it, I wonder?

A Tizer label from 1924, and an old Tizer bottle, both courtesy of AG Barr, the current manufacturer of Tizer.

Don't know who made it but that's a Leeds bus Tizer. Used to go up Easterly Road past the wonderful Clock Cinema in Harehills.

Tizer had two factories in Moston, Manchester quite close together . Founded by Fred Pickup in 1924, and sold to Barrs in 1972. They made Tizer, Jusoda (Orange flavour), Dandelion and Burdock, and Lemonade. I think that's all they made (?). I had a holiday job whilst at school in a nearby rival pop makers, ( £1 -15s per week and all you could drink), and considered myself to be quite a good judge of a bottle of pop. I always rated Pickups as pretty good.

But searching for the chosen words ..

From the Foodsofengland Image

From Geograph Image

And from the toycabin.com Image Lledo Days Gone DG75 - 1957 Bristol LD6G Lodekka Bus 'Fife, Drink Tizer The Appetizer'. Red body, cream band & wheels, brown interior.

Google's cache found a Yesteryear mock up or pre production at vectis auctions Image

And Vectis too had another matchbox twin pack Image

Another from thetoycabin.com 1.76 for your OO railway Image

Apparently this is at Beamish Image

Swiftysgarage.net added the matchboxes in more detail in 2012 Image

This might not have been a production bottle Image

But I dont think you want Image or Image or Image

There are a couple of Lledo Days Gone models in the livery , but I will let others find non auction site photos.

Alf Dunn was mentioned in Peterborough Telegraph in 2011 Image http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/comm ... -1-2816101

Which seems a good point to stop , for now, except to say TIZER LIMITED, formed 15/04/1936 remains on file , as a dormant company with its accounts up to date.
