I'm going up to HAPPA for a couple of hours to help put magazines & xmas catalogues in envelopes. Then I'm going to have to face clearing away Alfie's things...how empty the house feels this morning!

Taking Dan back to Liverpool then back and taking Cath to see her dad - another 6 weeks before she is allowed to drive. Nolic

Make sure you get enough sleep Nolic, you have to work on staying healthy yourself, you are the one keeping all this together. Maybe time to start saying No to 'extras'.

Physically Cath is improving but her dads second stroke and her mum deterioration is taking its toll. Difficult to know what to do for the best .We didn't take mum to see her dad today as yesterday she didn't recognise Cath and we didn't think it would help her dad who is very weak and the second stroke has added to his vascular dementia brought on by the original stroke. Glad to hear that Sue. Wednesdays are Finlay days for us, he's our youngest of three and is on the cusp of exploding into speech. By the amount of babbling there will be no stopping him once the penny drops.

Lovely! In a world where the ugly news predominates a new baby is a lovely reminder that there are a lot of good things happening out there which never get public attention. Our media has much to answer for! I hope the new baby does well.....

Congratulation Sue and family, lovely news

A new baby and Stanley's mention of the media reminded me of an article I read the other day about how our grandchildren will be living their everyday lives. It mentioned that homes will be smaller and more organised for working in, a lot of jobs that haven't even been invented yet will be mainly part-time, people might even be growing foodstuffs on their roofs (?), there won't be as many cars on the roads because people will work closer to home, a lot more electronic ways of doing things meaning that you will be able to work from almost anywhere with no need to go into the office, they may not even meet their employer face to face. Most of these ideas aren't new ofcourse, but the idea that got my attention was that students and workers will have to do courses to learn how to rid their brains of excess information. They will have to make time each day to do this so that they can concentrate on their work and have some down-time, rest, home-life etc.

Are turning into machines? I think our kids will be born with computer chips already inserted into their brains, or maybe a new gene is being evolved as we speak.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Cathy, I'm reading a book at the moment which details the changes that are afoot in the world due to the explosion of communications technology and it's amazing. Even more so when you recognise the book was written ten years ago! Little doubt there will be change but perhaps our kids will be able to handle it, after all we did!
Getting over the fact that I found a close family member has been diagnosed with medullary nephrocalcinosis. As soon as I saw the big words I went on to Red Alert! It turns out that while significant modern medicine has a handle on it and it is no threat to life expectancy. Phew! Probably hereditary and certainly present since birth.

I would have loved to come Wendy but we have both grandchildren for the weekend and I have a job on my roof to sort out today, which I need to get done before it chucks it down. Best of luck with the event.

Thanks Ian, hope you didn't have the grandchildren up on the roof with you!
We have had a really enjoyable day with a good turnout. Stanley did an excellent job of opening the event, looking well scrubbed up and wearing his very classy Harris Tweed suit. We sold over 40 books today, which is amazing!

Glad it all went OK Wendy, my job did as well. No grandchildren on the roof just down in the street asking "what are you doing granddad." Ready for a sit down now.
