Don't mention Bravo, I get all emotional....
It looks as though Titan Salvage have achieved their first goal and got the Costa Concordia upright. I'll bet they had a quiet celebration last night.... (LINK)

A couple of interesting enquiries on the Visit Barnoldswick site yesterday.

One from a couple in the US wanting (amongst other things) to get in touch with family members in Barlick before a proposed visit next year, which I've been able to sort out.

The other from someone who has traced their family back to 1600 in Barnoldswick, who I've pointed to OGFB.

Today is the anniversary of the start of Operation Market Garden. Monty's WWII Bridge Too Far

Anyone who has traveled up Hell's Highway into Arnhem and ended up in the little cemetery will have a sense of what those men endured

After doing it with my son, I still remember the old Dutchman who approached me as we stood in the street and shook my hand and said "You are English? Thank you and thank you for teaching the next generation"

Impressive pics of the Costa Concordia sat upright at last. It looks like a text-book operation and increases my admiration for the unsung heroes in the salvage industry. Big jobs.....

After several OG members (Panbiker, Kev, Thomo?) having boiler problems in the last week our CH system stopped working on Sunday! We deduced it was probably the pump, got the plumber in yesterday, he agreed, fitted a new pump and we're warm again. The boiler was given a new oil pump and motor at the last service, it's a Boulter Camray and is 17 years old.

The fact that despite his data mining failing, the edited sections of the LTP seem to be OK now. Thank God for that! I love the project but my God it can't half soak up honest endeavour. Hopefully we get close to the stage where we have a cast iron back-up of the 2013 edition. This will probably be my last revision! It's only taken 36 years.....
The nice thing is that from what Ian tells me, completion of this phase means that we are closer to the new, clean version of the site platform. This will be slightly different but a far more stable and efficient version.

This grabbed my attention today...see the link to the Winged Heroes thread - I've linked it here because posts to that thread don't appear in the list of recent topics on the Portal Page of OG and will be missed by most people.

Arctic Sunrise still in the hands of Russian gunmen. The russians have been very clever in taking this action, at a time when their peace keeping actions in syria have brought them the global attention they seek. It will be interesting to see which countries will raise their heads above the parapet and say this is wrong. 145,000 ordinary people have e/mailed Russian embassies around the world, probably pointless but what else can you do, other than feel helpless. The attentions of Gazprom and Shell to the oil and gas in the arctic is not everyones cup of tea. I for one thank Greenpeace for trying on behalf of others, and wish for a speedy resolvement. the memories of the french secret service actions in New Zealand are still fresh in my memory.

NASA has lost contact with the mission Deep Impact, launched ten years ago to study comets. They think that due to the fact that the programmes were written with a six months life in mind, it has run out of digits to enable it to interact with the on-board clock so has gone into an error mode.

I happened to be skimming through an old issue of `Railway Modeller' magazine (April 2004) yesterday and saw an ad for model kits from the well-known German company Faller. What caught my attention was this kit - not quite what you expect to be on a model railway, but then it's German so who knows? I'm not making any guesses about that little inset picture at top left! :surprised:

Marked deterioration in clarity of print on the screen this morning. Had to zoom in one more level. I don't think it is the fault of the monitor! I think we have the timing of my operation about right. (October 1st ist Der Tag)

A harrowing story on the World Service this morning of a little girl hiding in the Westgate Mall who heard one of the terrorists ask two women to quote verses from the Koran to prove they were Muslim. They both did this and then he shot them because they weren't wearing the full face niqab. Sort that one out! (Could it be that they were sure they were in the right?)

Over 100 hrs since the arctic sunrise was taken in an act of piracy by the russians, the silence from the world is deafening. Just a few people doing what they can to save our planet, and the world turns its back.

Attention attracted by two separate items on BBC radio today.

They don't seem to want to describe the Somali perpetrators of the Nairobi killings as terrorists. Too judgmental? Just heard the word used, but qualified by the phrase - 'as President Kenyatta described them'

They have just managed to do a full item on 'modern slavery' with an expert, and coverage of the ongoing episode in S. Wales without using the words gypsy or traveller. They insist it is all centred on a 'farm', and has no connection with immigration. I don't recall anyone suggesting that it had.

Without doubt they are "Terrorists", they are not Freedom Fighters as they already have all the freedom they need. They are "Islamic Extremists" and blinded by the fog of religion, are hell bent on getting their own way. These evil bastards can hide their true characters amongst people of their own race, people who just like the rest of us want to get on with their lives. The damage they do is, thanks to the media, plain to see, the damage they do to the rest of the Islamic world will not be easy to quantify. The perpetrators of this gross act should never have been born, yet born they were, and fired up by men who still live in the dark ages, are an ever increasing threat to this world, they are the worst kind of thugs intoxicated by what was basically good, but has become corrupted. I was appalled by the account given by a little girl who witnessed the execution of two women who having recited a piece from the Koran, were then shot dead for not wearing a niqab. These people are regarded as brave by their own group members, brave they are not, just plain cowards with the power of a gun. Worst of all is the probability that some were from this country, people such as these need to be flushed out and removed, sooner than later.

Do we have a security problem here ?, Has someone hijacked Hartley353's account ?

I wouldn't have thought a ship with scientists who are "doing what they can to save our planet" would enter into his thinking...... ;)
