Re: Autumn 2013
Dry almost at 04:00 but wet now, there's been a shower. But very mild, noticeably warmer. Glass steady at just below 29.1". Forecast is interesting, a fall in temperature at first from night time then a gradual rise as wind swings to SE and rises. Generally wet outlook for today and tomorrow.

In Brittany there were cracking thunderstorms last night, right overhead for hours. The garden path is a little river. My new plants will be watered in.

Re: Autumn 2013
Sally went hedgerow foraging with Finlay in the pushchair yesterday afternoon. Came back with a carrier bag full of Elderberry, Blackberry, Crab Apples, Rowan and Sloes. All from alongside the canal tow-path. You only ever see our generation and older gathering the fruits of the hedgerow, everyone else's loss. More preserves on the horizon.
I need to add Apple and MInt Marmalade to the list, crafted and bubbled up on Tuesday night.

Re: Autumn 2013
Lovely Ian, and healthy exercise as well. Finlay will have taken notice....
Mild and dry with a bit more wind this morning. Glass fallen to almost 28.9", expect more wind and a good chance of a shower today.
Sue, the thunderstorms were further down the country, some heavy rain, we escaped it.

Re: Autumn 2013
Like Sally I was out yesterday collecting sloes, and some wild damsons, the fruits of my labours will be mixed with sugar and then added to Gin and Vodka. after a couple of months of daily then weekly attention I shall have a lovely warming tipple for the colder months. Last year I made Strawberry vodka, but to much, so no need to make more this year. All my life I have shopped in the countryside, and over the last ten years have noticed an uptake by others. Whist living in Barlick I remember the annual Rosehip picking organised by my schools and the measly coppers received for sackfuls.

Adelaide. 25C today, 27C tomorrow. Beautiful one day, perfect the next, what can I say?

No problem, some of us remember the downside of your idyllic climate (4th of January)Cathy wrote:Adelaide. 25C today, 27C tomorrow. Beautiful one day, perfect the next, what can I say?![]()

Cathy wrote: Poor little old Adelaide has had it bad today. After trying to sleep thru 24C last night we then had to endure a top of 45C today, it's the fourth hottest day on record for us, absolutely sweltering. We also have Severe Fire Danger warning, and Shark Alerts!! Tonight we can sleep thru 18C and it should only (?) reach 32C tomorrow, but will work it's way back up to 41C by Monday.
Perth only had 25C today but will have 38C tomorrow, and poor Hobart had 41.4C today, their hotttest on record.
Time for yet another shower...![]()

I also remember this from my Junior School days, but who bought them and where did they go..? (Was it something to do with Delrosa?)

Re: Autumn 2013
There were a number of rosehip processors Delrosa being the main. net search revealed you could earn badges for collecting them, I never so one, and suggests 3-4d per pound was paid by their agents, again I didn't see these princely sums. Because half the town was collecting we would have to travel further afield to gain large quantities my poor dad must have footed the petrol costs. It started in the war years as a valuable source of vitamin C. and carried on into the sixties.

Re: Autumn 2013
Damp but mild and calm first thing. Glass is hovering at 29.5". Forecast is for another nice day like yesterday. Remember what I said about fine spells after equinoctial gales? Looks as though it is holding true this year. Good weather!

Re: Autumn 2013
Flags wet this morning after a night shower. Calm, mild and overcast. Glass fallen slightly towards 29.4". Forecast is for west wind to be steady today so we stay mild and reasonably dry but late tonight the wind starts to swing into the north and the temperature is going to fall rapidly. We're heading for single figures.....

Re: Autumn 2013
Dry, more breeze and a cooler feel this morning. Yesterday turned out nice in afternoon. Glass is steady, still hovering at just below 29.5". Chance of a shower around dinnertime, main thing to watch is the wind, it will start swinging into the north this afternoon and become stronger. Expect colder weather tomorrow.

Re: Autumn 2013
Spring in Australia; Today I noticed that the weather forecast for Canberra is 31 deg C. We were there at the same time last year, at the beautiful Floriade flower festival, and on the day we left Canberra for the Blue Mountains there was a top of 6 deg. We were unable to get into the Blue Mountains because the roads were blocked with snow. What a difference a year makes!!

Re: Autumn 2013
It's a topcoat colder here in Barlick, dry but wind very gradually increasing and it is from the north now. Glass still hunting around between 29.4" and 29.5". Forecast is for a brighter day but we will not get above single figures temperature.

Re: Autumn 2013
It was predicted that we would have 35C yesterday, but we reached 30C because it was overcast and windy, not a nice day. Today we had 19C with rain and it was cool, verging on chilly. Just unpredictable Spring weather I guess.
