Job done in minutes. Goodbye BT hello TT. Computerwise nothing has changed, IE11 still in place, e/mail unchanged.

The new platform. Odd little glitches but nothing we won't chase down eventually. Nobody will be frightened off....

I have just been looking at what I posted two years ago under the BWMG topic, in short, the old archives appear to be accessible again. To all concerned in this new development, Well Done and thank you.

Just pot luck I'm afraid Thomo. The data mined code is still severely broken. A lot of the site is not accessible as it was not copied correctly when Doc had to data mine the site after the original site crashed.

Oh well, it was quite nostalgic and I have no doubt that we will see it again. Keep up the good work Ian, and thank you.

How nice to be able to post images again. Nice to see that it is just as easy and quick as on the old platform.

As I walked round the town this morning I was reflecting on the reports about the three ladies held in servitude for at least thirty years. Many have been asking why it is, if they were not actually locked up all the time, they didn't simply vote with their feet. A good question.
I have just finished reading Pauline Conolly's book 'The Water Doctor's daughters' and it struck me that there were parallels between the Marsden children who were completely dominated by their father and the ladies in London. There are more ways of locking a person into a situation than closed doors and locks. I can well understand a situation in which people can be so dominated and brain-washed that the fact they can vote with their feet doesn't even register on their radar. Do we all still do this with our children even though we have left behind the worst aspects of Victorian society? Where does care and protection end and domination and servitude begin? Another good question?

I'll be interested to read their story when they are able to tell it. It's amazing what can happen 'out there', and in these type of cases hard to understand how.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Cathy, I have little doubt that the academics will be falling over each other to try to understand what happened. Some clues are leaking out already but nothing concrete.

Last night, the knock on the door from a neighbour informing us that our car had been damaged by a driver trying to reverse out of our street. He bashed mine and our neighbours daughters car and scraped his car down the wall, ending up with two wheels on the pavement. Another neighbour saw the event happening and stopped any further damage by opening the door of his car and grabbing the keys off him. He phoned the police who arrested the driver after he was found to be under the influence of drink. Not the first time apparently, one of our locals had arrested the guy previously for the same offence

According to the DVLA database he has insurance. I've phoned mine, just have to wait now and see if they write mine off. It's front wing damage but it was mentioned that a 57 reg car might not be worth repairing, 40k on the clock, bugger!

Don't despair Ian, when my car was damaged in June The insurance company wrote it off there was only 41,000 miles on the clock. I agreed a settlement figure with the company and then bought it back from them for the scrap value. The dVLA put a marker against the car as a write off returned to use, this cost a further £41.00 to put it through a VOSA identity check to remove the marker. As for the damage a suction cup puller removed the dent from the rear off side door, and a touch up can repaired the damaged paint. At the end I still have my transport and the benefit of all the care lavished on it, and none of the hassle of finding a replacement that would serve me as well.

Worth bearing in mind if push comes to shove.

Police rang today with the blokes insurance details to pass to my insurers. They also need to know that he refused to provide a sample when requested at the Police station so is going to be charged with that offence which I am told carries the same weight as driving under the influence. There is a witness who can attest that he was driving the vehicle so he has no get out. Court date is set for Dec 16th, police asked me if I was prepared to attend court, too right I am if asked. It was half past six in the evening, there could still have been kids around in the street, he deserves all that he has coming.

Ian, when the same thing happened to me, but the council bin wagon, I had a word with the assessor who was going to write it off (Zurich Insurance) and told him that if they gave me £500 I would go away. He agreed, I got the money, it was never written off.
Later, at 07:00. Just heard a nice report on R4 Today. Evidently, despite the historic antagonism between Syria and Israel the Syrians have found that if there is a lady in labour and they can't get her treated in Syria, if they take her to the border and leave her there the Israeli border guards will pick her up and take her to a nearby Israeli hospital where she will be treated. After recovery they are taken back to the border and relatives pick them up. They have to keep quiet about what has happened to avoid suspicion in Syria but word of this humanitarian behaviour is spreading and is obviously a good thing. So nice to see that despite all the problems, compassion can still have a role.

Checking my inbox this morning to find no mail, I can't remember the last time this happened. If I hadn't met people on my way for a paper, my thoughts may have turned to has the world ended.

Presenting £165 to the Senior's Drop-in at their well attended Christmas Fair in the Civic Hall. The money we made from the tombola that we held in front of Chubbies' on the day of the Christmas Lights Switch On Event.

Yesterday.

A parcel I didn't expect to be delivered until next Saturday (Lakeland stuff via Amazon - a late Birthday present) turned up whilst I was away in Chester in Saturday. Very pleasant to know that one of my neighbours took it in and thus I was able to have my Dalek Cake Mould for Sunday (8 egg mix)

My dad doesn't have a computer and therefore no email but he expects to always get letters in the post. When we visit him it usually begins like this:
Dad: Haven't had any post for days now!
Me: Have you written to anyone?
Dad: No, why would I want to do that?
Nullius in verba: On the word of no one (Motto of the Royal Society)

Tiz, I remember my late wife once telling me that she had passed so-and-so on the street and they never spoke. So I asked if she had said anything... She didn't make the connection. In communication there are two classes, the initiators and the responders. The responders are the ones who complain that they are ignored.
Needless to say, only 12 hours to go!

News report that 43% of Hull population is in debt. Even worse, see this LINK for news on company pension fund deficits. Worse now than in 2009 when stock market was bumping along the bottom.

After recent discussions on binoculars, I spotted some 10x50 Prinz on ebay. After placing an offer of £8.00 to my surprise I won the auction. This is usually a bad sign when no competion appears. They arrived yesterday and to my amazement they are like new with perfect glass and no optical problems. These binoculars were a 70,s Dixons brand and have never been well thought of. I shall be catching up with Postman Pete soon I now have 3 sets.
