Have a skim down this Bridgwater Mercury web page to see some pics of the flooding in the Somerset Levels, especially the completely submerged car in Muchelney!

This dodgy advert on the top of a car parked across from West Craven High Technology College.

It may have contributed to an accident outside the school yesterday morning.
It certainly shouldn't be distracting drivers at a busy location. Have asked various agencies if it can be shifted.

That car was parked down at the bottom of Wellhouse Road on Sunday.

The police raids in Bacup this morning leading to the arrest of more people (now a total of four) in connection with the shop burglaries in Barlick last year.
It looks like there's solid evidence to convict...

But if convicted, will they be gaoled? I was skimming the abysmally low rates of imprisonment for crime.....

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I suspect one of the four arrested will be charged with the burglaries. Given the number of offences, and assuming a guilty plea or verdict, I think a gaol sentence is inevitable. Don't know what those charged with handling will get, though.Stanley wrote:But if convicted, will they be gaoled?
They'll probably be charged today, so it'll be sub judice after that.

Helicopter Crash.
My sympathies lie with those who lost their lives in this tragic accident. However, the whole episode raises a number of questions about the "military exercise" that was taking place. These Pave Hawk helicopters are basically gun ships armed with 7.62 mm guns yet were said to be carrying 50 caliber bullets. To be scattered they must have been loose rather than in belts?
Not wishing to raise a complete conspiracy theory.
What was an American helicopter doing flying fully armed over English territory.
Why do the British authorities appear to be holding back until the Americans come on the scene.
Why let the Americans take the helicopter remains back for their investigation, surely we must take charge with the Americans looking on.
It makes me think that something else was going on rather than a routine exercise.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
David Driver from Bacup has today appeared in court and been remanded in custody on charges of conspiracy to commit over 40 burglaries. Three other people charged with the same offence have been bailed to appear for a court hearing or sentencing (depending on how they plead).

Let's be thankful it wasn't one of these!Tardis wrote:Because they do, when on exerciseplaques wrote:What was an American helicopter doing flying fully armed over English territory.

Well that's all right then. Tardis, what if these bullets are made from depleted uranium? or if it was carrying nuclear material?Tardis wrote:Because they do, when on exercise
Does it still give you that glowing feeling that it was only an exercise?

The car belongs to someone called Barry and according to his eBay sales - he is based in Burnley.

Plaques, there is typically 850 kg of depleted uranium in a Boeing 747. Do you suggest we ban these also?plaques wrote:Well that's all right then. Tardis, what if these bullets are made from depleted uranium? or if it was carrying nuclear material?Tardis wrote:Because they do, when on exercise

Surely it is a fact of life that war machines may possibly be carrying live arms and also that nuclear material must be routinely carried, even in peacetime.

Thanks Pete.PostmanPete wrote:The car belongs to someone called Barry and according to his eBay sales - he is based in Burnley.
The guy is well known to the authorities; he's been displaying ad cars on roads all over Pendle and Burnley.
Originally, the ad referred to scrap cars which contravenes the scrap dealer's act. He changed it to 'old cars', which doesn't...
He promised he was going to shift it the other day, but it was still there when I passed yesterday.
Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
The point I'm trying make, which seems to be an uphill battle, that these are foreign war planes over civilian territory. Do you think for one minute the Americans would allow us to conduct a similar exercise in America? Why for that matter are they still exercising, surely they have enough experience in Iraq and Afghanistan doing the real thing, Ref: Edward Snowdon, not to play games in England.chinatyke wrote: Plaques, there is typically 850 kg of depleted uranium in a Boeing 747. Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
We, in the form of the UK armed forces, do conduct exercises over US land
Like all things, if you need to know the capabilities and limitations then you have to practice or "train" how to use them
